Overall: [400 words minimum]
Ven is what most people would initially classify as a self-absorbed braniac. She is a confident and self-assured person, she just doesn't particularly like socializing. She isn't confrontational and has no clear objection to being around people, but it is obvious that, given a choice, she opts for solitude over crowds. She has a dominant personality; Ven isn't easy to push around or fluster. She has a wall between herself and the rest of the world. The front she throws up is perpetually unperturbed, even during stressful situations. Within she is often calculating and deep in thought. While Ven isn't hiding any insecure, frightened child inside, she is afraid of other people discovering some way in to her world that will turn out badly. She appears self absorbed because...well, she is. She doesn't give much thought to the people around her or what they are feeling unless it directly affects her. Ven doesn't consider other people when striving for her own goals. That doesn't mean she is blatantly rude and inconsiderate. She won't take the last seat on a bus if it means an older person must stand, nor will she lie, cheat or steal to achieve her goals. However, don't count on her to be a there for you if there is something more important to her going on.
Ven has an issue with food. She is a vegan... for the most part. As a human she is a strict vegan. No meat, eggs or dairy enter her system. On the other hand her animal half is the carnivorous snow leopard. When in that form she has no problem with scarfing down some meat, as long as she hunted it herself. The rationalization behind this is that people are meant to eat People Food and snow leopards eat Snow Leopard Food. She is interested in human nutrition. Because she comes from a very science minded family Ven's choices for her degree were limited to the sciences. Nutrition sparked her interest because it had always been a point of contention with her family. They both shifted into carnivores and had no qualms about the interchangeable diet. Ven would have very much liked to pursue a degree in photography because it is a passion of hers. Her parents interceded, though, and insisted that she pick something that was more...respectable. Ven does not typically go against the wishes of her family so she did not put up a fight when the issue arose.
The sun is, in essence, a ball of fire that sends out heat and light and keep the world alive. And it sends evil rays that will kill your skin cells and make you have wrinkles prematurely. Ven hates the idea of tanning and dreads the idea of sunburns. She slathers on sunscreen with a very high SPF every morning and afternoon. She doesn't mind being in sunlight then, but if she is caught outside without sunscreen she'll dodge under the nearest shade. Her only other atypical behavior is her response to germs. She isn't an OCD case but she does give her living space a light cleaning every day. She keeps herself spotless (Ha! Get it? Spotless? It's funny because she's a snow leopard...no? Okay then, forget it. Where was I....?") and is an overall organized person. She will clean/organize any place she is in if it doesn't suit her standards. This is also a part of her controlling behavior.
Ven's a bit of an environmental activist. Along with being a vegan she recycles everything she can and uses natural products when possible. She conserves water and electricity and eats organic food. She doesn't push these beliefs on other people but makes it conspicuously obvious that she doesn't approve of wasteful behavior.
To conclude: Ven is a person with a strong character and firm beliefs. She is accepting of new ideas but not very willing to change her behavior. She is a confident and reserved person who sets high standards for herself and people around her. She keeps her emotions walled in and doesn't connect with other people easily. While she is generally polite and friendly she is always rather distant and absorbed in her own world. She has very little patience and becomes exasperated easily, yet she isn't a quitter. She is a capable person that likes to tackle things alone and does not work well in a group. She often disregards the needs of other people over her own.
...appearance

Celebrity Play By: Gemma Arterton
Appearance: [400 words minimum]
Human: Ven is a tall teenager with a slender build. She has a long torso and limbs but looks very proportional. She is 5'9” tall and weighs 130 pounds. She is fit but not conspicuously muscular. She has a straight nose and a clearly pronounced jawline and chin. She is a coordinated person that seldom drops things, but her throwing ability is an embarrassment to her. Ven has long dark brown hair. At one point it had a neat, layered look but has since been allowed to grow and take any shape it chooses. She tends to keep it pulled back in a bun or a braid but stray locks are always breaking free. When loose it falls midway down her back and has a slight wave to it. She has dark hazel eyes. Her dark hair and eyes contrast with her light colored skin. Because of her near compulsive sunscreen addiction she never tans.
Ven wears a lot of darkly colored clothing. All of her clothes look brand new all of the time because of the care she takes with them. She wears comfortable, practical clothes and likes to look well put together. If she knows she'll be staying inside most of the day she'll opt for jeans or sweats and a T-shirt. However, if she plans to go out she'll go for a tank top and cardigan and nice jeans. Ven doesn't wear make-up of any sort, at all, ever. She prefers to go for the all-natural look, something she pulls off well most days.
Her appearance gives the impression a powerful and poised girl. Her posture is very upright but she moves with fluidity, like a runner. There is something about her that hints at arrogance, but perhaps it is only her confident and purposeful step. She moves with certainty; Ven isn't the kind to flutter about and lose track of what she was doing.
Animal: Ven shifts into a snow leopard. She stands at roughly 2 feet tall at the shoulder. She has a long body and an equally long tail, together measuring around 90 inches or seven and a half feet. Her fur is thick and has the characteristic pale grey coloring. The rosettes that pattern her fur are dark grey and black. Patches of light cream color are visible around her shoulders, flanks and the back of her neck. Her undersides are white. The back of her small, rounded ears are black. Her eyes are a rich green-gold color that mirror her eyes as a human. They are surrounded by dark markings that trail down to her rose colored nose. The snow leopard is a regal, yet secretive creature. As a snow leopard, Ven carries herself with the same poise and appears just as remote.

...history
Parents: Tanya Sergeyovna Cedlov; Ivan Vladimirovich Cedlov
Siblings: None
[400 words minimum]
Ven's mother is an ecologist and her father is a botanist. They are both Shifters so there was little doubt in their minds that their only child would inherit the ability. Ven was born in St. Petersburg, Russia but her family moved to Yekaterinburg when she was 5. Her family moved 3 more times in her first 12 years of life. She was told that this was because of her parents' work. They needed to travel to research and gather data and the like. Being the sheltered, trusting child that she was Ven had no reason not to believe them. She later realized, with her parents' sheepish confirmation, that all the moving was because they did not want their beloved Alina to form close friendships with people. When her parents had first shifted their families moved immediately afterwords and cut all ties to their past lives. Ivan and Tanya did not want their daughter to experience the same trauma.
Ven's family finally settled in Australia, of all places. It was as far as her parents could reasonably take Ven from their past lives while maintaining their jobs with a research group. Their house was located on a large piece of empty land that was bordered by even more empty land. Their closest neighbor lived 15 miles away to the north. Ven was still unaware of her family's ability to shift into animal form. Because she hadn't made any good friends because of their constant travel, Ven had grown very close to her family. They seemed perfectly normal to her, if a bit distant at times. These feelings changed when Ven turned 12. Her parents suddenly became extremely overprotective and strict. She was barely ever allowed out of the house alone and it seemed that one parent was always at home when she was. She grew resentful of their constant monitoring, yet nothing changed for another 7 months. After that...many things changed.
Ven had stayed home from school that day due to a migraine. She never got migraines, so out of concern her mother stayed home to keep an eye on her. She took some medicine and collapsed on the couch. Toward the afternoon, after 5 hours of sleep, Ven woke up feeling completely better. And restless. She told her mother that she wanted to go for a walk or run or SOMETHING. Her mother seemed very agitated and refused to let her out of the house. Ven got into a heated argument with her mother, releasing her frustrations about what over protective parents they were. Ven stormed away to her room, still unsure about how to relieve her restlessness. A few minutes passed. Ven shifted for the first time when she was 12 years and 7 months of age. She padded mindlessly toward the open front window but paused upon hearing a sharp reprimand that sounded vaguely familiar. She whirled to see....her mother. She snarled, but before she could respond further something else caught her attention. From another room entered a different animal. It looked like a deer, only it had a massive set of antlers. It was, of course, an elk, but her muddled thoughts couldn't process that. Suddenly the larger animal took off and without a second thought she followed. It bounded out of the open front door and onto the vast amount of open land that lay outside. She grew exhausted quickly in the blaze of the afternoon sun. Snow leopards weren't meant to run long distances in flat, semi-arid country. The elk was no where in sight. She shifted back, more out of exhaustion than anything. Within seconds her neighbor appeared in his four-wheel-drive truck. He gave her a lift back to her house. Her mother led her inside wordlessly.
Ven slept the rest of that day and all through the night. When she woke up the next morning both of her parents and her neighbor were waiting for her. They explained the history of shifters in their family and everything they knew about it. Ven had never paid much mind to the man that lived on the neighboring parcel of land, but it was revealed that he was an old friend of her father's that was also a shifter. An elk, actually. It had been a tactic that her parents had planned and prepared since they first moved here. They had been hoping that she wouldn't shift into something that was faster than an elk or that could tolerate the desert heat any better. Though she was still somewhat stung by the lies she'd been fed for so long, Ven learned to control her shifts.

{{From a different RPG board; wolf-themed}}
Synge stepped carefully over the dried up remains of a leafy bush. His progress had been silent as of yet and he wanted it to remain that way. Most of the vegetation was new and fragile, but this one remained from the deadly cold of winter. Despite his pains to be silent, the wolf didn't pass by unnoticed. Birds, squirrels, weasels, and most every other creature in the vicinity all took care to note the predator's passing. But to the inferior senses of a human, Syn was invisible. They wouldn't hear him, certainly not smell him, and thanks to his coat of many shades, he was no more noticeable that the swaying shadows of the trees. He picked up his speed again, settling into the ground covering trot that his species so favored.
This knowledge was all new to him. Up until a couple of moons ago he had not known the scent or appearance of Man. The mountainous region he came from had not felt the tread of humans in decades. The wolves were blissfully unaware of the strange bipeds. Synge had not known whether to run or confront the ones who came at him on that day long passed. He had, as any sensible wolf should, opted to run. That proved unsuccessful, obviously, otherwise he wouldn't be here. Actually, he hadn't seen many since he came to this place. Smelled them, certainly. They had some sort of encampment on this island, and he took care to avoid it and the strange smells there. Synge was as neophobic a wolf as they came.
He shook his head to deter a fly, flattening his ears at the strange sound his tag made. He was used to it for the most part, but it would catch him by surprise when he went to scratch. Syn regained his composure shortly and stepped forward again. He moved as if he had some purpose, but in reality he was just killing time. He wasn't hungry or thirsty, and had just woken up from a six hour nap. After some restless pacing, sniffing and half-hearted tracking, he had decided to make a bee line through the trees and relocate to some other location. He was moving north, following the river up to Nahtonui Lake. If he concentrated, he could hear the faint sound of rushing water.
The early afternoon sun cast many shadows through the trees, and mottled the ground with spots of warm sun. He inhaled deeply one time, followed by several shorter breaths. As far as he could tell he was the only wolf to pass this place recently. Satisfied, he allowed his mind to wander. Synge was relaxed now, content with the knowledge that he was alone. It was a rare opportunity. Though he should be using it for something useful, he found himself pondering, once again, his situation and how he had come to be in it. It can't make any difference where I am. I'm doing the same thing I was before, just in a different place. Everyone is a stranger, just like they were there. In any case, I wasn't expecting to see anyone I used to know again. It's colder here though, but there is also more prey. Nevertheless, I'll have to consider finding a pack that will accept me before next winter. He continued jogging and following that train of thought, still dissatisfied with his options.
