When he saw the sign Yummy Tummie's Restaurant in flasy colors, Dazz knew that he just had to check it out. Only one thought entered his mind when he saw it: Gummy Bears. Why a restaurant would serve gummy bears? No apparent reason. For some reason, it just clicked in his head. The storm had reached its peak and was beginning to calm down. Instinct had driven him back outside--as nice as it was inside Shifter Academy, it was still cooped up. Being inside for too long made Dazz claustrophobic. Who'd want to be inside for their whole life? Didn't God make the outdoors for a reason? Staying inside because of a storm was, to Dazz, like telling a bird that it couldn't fly anymore.
Mist sprayed him gently in the eyes. He rolled his shoulders around, to circulate blood through the stiff muscles. All he really wanted to do was run. But run where? There was nowhere for him to go. Dazz saw two girls walking on the opposite side of the street, going in the other direction. One had beautiful blonde hair, slender as a swan--Dazz couldn't help but wonder if that was her animal identity, a swan. The other was the exact opposite, of athletic build with grundgy brown hair. Both of them wore the same expression. Empty, oblique. The tougher one met his eyes. He nodded a greeting, wordlessly.
The blonde smiled, though her eyes still held that sad, distant look. This had been their home, Dazz realized. He looked around at the broken debris. They had something in common.
"How're you?" After the words left his mouth, they sounded really, really stupid.
She shrugged. "Holding up." Good answer, he thought.
"I was gonna see if I could grab a snack. Either of you hungry?" No, he didn't have any money. He'd left home with nothing exept for the clothes on his back and a hijacked car. Did he feel guilty that he'd been planning to steal a small portion of Yummy Tummies' stash? That was like asking if he felt guilty of wanting to survive.
Blondie looked somewhat interested, but her friend hmphed and said, "Nope. We have better things to do."
Dazz's eyes were sincere. "If you ever need anything, I'm Addidas Chase."
The girl smiled. "Thanks, Addidas." She turned away and left with the brunette.
He looked down, his eyes sad. Destruction, darkness, disaster... Words that started with "D" echoed in his head. Windows had been shattered, buildings ripped in half. He saw a STOP sign bent at a forty-five degree angle. A crunch beneath his feet nearly made him jump. He was almost never distracted enough to not notice exactly where he was walking. He lifted his sneakered foot and picked up what he'd stepped on--a broken, wooden yoyo. His weight had broken it in half.
He gently applied some pressure, and it snapped back into place, the two circular disks lining up slightly crookedly. He tried the yoyo, and it seemed okay at first, but it fell apart after a few seconds. With startling realization, Dazz realized that this yoyo was a lot like him--like all the kids at Shifter's. Broken. But they both had survived the storm. He exhaled, knowing that the storm was over. And that the kids would all need to work together to patch the school back once more. He stuffed the yoyo in his pocket, a new determination setting in.
Then, he began making his way to do what he'd come to do in the first place--look for some food. Reconstruction and regrouping would sure be nice, but for starters he decided that satisfying his stomach was the best idea.

Because Crazy Things Have Happened
Yo,
I don't know about you, but it's sure been a while since I last posted. Why? Hm. To put things lightly, a lot has happened. Emphasis on the "lightly" part. Seriously--understatement of the century, here! Anyway, here's a breif update of what's been going on. I left the cabin, and went to New York to hang out for a while. Now, I'm in a great place that's full of great people (one of them being a childhood friend of mine). Unfortunately, something really really bad has happened, so guess what--I'll be busy for a while again.
To sum things up, lots of crazy things going on, all of them dangerous to post on the World Wide Web. If you want to find out the details, get used to disappointment. Who knew that being 15 would be this hard?
Till next time,
