Likes:
Technology
(Living for over a hundred years, without losing any mental functionality has blessed Azubuike with a love of new technology, and the brains to accept and adapt to it)
Tea
(His favorite is Earl Grey)
Books
(He's seen and met many great authors, fostering a deep love of books, and spawning his huge collection of books that he keeps in large boxes that travel with him wherever he goes)
Games
(Spending many years in isolation, and an equal amount surrounded by people, Azubuike has acquired a deep appreciation for the staying power or games. His personal favorites include Mahjong, Sudoku, Texas Hold 'Em Poker, and Blackjack. He also deeply enjoys the more modern video games, including Metal Gear Solid)
Sunsets (and Sunrises)
(He has been known to stay up from dusk to dawn, meditating in his tortoise form)
Silence
(Living for over a hundred and fifty years has taught Azubuike the value of silence and patience)
Music
(He especially enjoys classical Japanese music, alternative rock, and the music from classic video games)
Art
(But not "modern art," in Azubuike's opinion, it counts for less than Bill Clinton's apologies)
Photography
(He enjoys capturing moments that quickly become lost in his vast memories, which at this point have become almost computer like in his ability to retrieve them)
Intelligence
(Over his long life, Azubuike has come to appresiate intelligence in all of it's forms, as at this point, he is too used to dealing with unappreciative idiots)
Dislikes:
Ceylon Tea
(The flavor is too strong)
Close-minded people
( Watching others close themselves off to the unfamiliar is almost painful to Azubuike)
The Beatles
(There has to be something wrong with them...)
Evangelists
(And also the religions the espouse)
Fears:
Death
(Long ago, he realized that, ultimately, every human fears death, and admitted it to himself)
Fear
(He literally fears the concept of being afraid, more rationally than irrationally though, as he has recognized this fallacy)
The Beatles
(There's something just off about those four...)
Strengths:
Intelligence
(His vast reserves of knowledge are incredible, and everything he experiences in remembered on his computer-like brain)
Psychological experience
(Years of working with people have enabled Azubuike to read almost exactly what some people are thinking, and his vast experience with people has also gifted him with a deep intuition for understanding other people's emotions)
Physical Strength
(Despite his age, Azubuike has an incredible physique)
Weaknesses:
Age
(Unfortunately, even Azubuike hasn't been able to fully escape aging, though his mind, and, for the most part, his body, have remained fine)
Automobiles
(He never learned to drive)
Chocolate
(It's sooooo tasty, but also sooooo unhealthy)
Overall:
Azubuike's personality is something almost guaranteed to be nearly infathomable to most standard people. He can be both immeasurably cruel, and incredibly kind. He can appear to be wise beyond measure, and yet say things that appear to be incalcuably stupid. In fact, however, everything he does is almost inevitably calculated. It's almost impossible to actually know him, though he is, by all accounts a very friendly person, who enjoys many of the things that people younger than him enjoy, such as music and video games.

Appearance:
Although Azubuike is well over one hundred and fifty years old, he looks about sixty or seventy, with a suitably wise-looking face and a short beard. Seldom is a moment when Azubuike lacks a grandfatherly old smile, however, in the few moments where he lacks a smile, an almost stormy demeanor takes him over, overwriting almost everything about him. Typically, you would find him wearing a tweed suit and tie, custom tailored to exactly his fit (due to his long life, he is able to afford the nicer things of life, especially clothing, which he hasn't out grown for the last hundred and thirty years of his life. Typically, the clothing wears out about twenty years after he buys it. In his off hours, however, you would find him in more modern attire, such as cargo pants and graphic tees, of which he is rather fond. Sometimes, he can also be found in ancient robes, which reflect some long-lost religion he practices.
Azubuike is a dark skinned man, with close cropped, salt and pepper hair. This is one of the few physical aspects about him which reflect his age, joined by laugh lines and wrinkles on his face. He is in peak physical condition, or at least, as fit as one of his age can be, as he has a very strict exercise regimen that he follows to maintain his fitness. He is proficient in many forms of warfare, resulting from his years studying as a monk, and as a military leader in Africa in the 1800's. He has a shell like tattoo on his back, which centers around a wheel, which almost looks like a Buddhist wheel. This pattern also transfers to the pattern of his shifted form's shell.
As a tortoise, Azubuike is very oddly colored, though nobody is quite sure how that happened to him, perhaps it is a result of old age, perhaps it is the result of exposure to radiation. In an case, his coloring is fairly odd for a tortoise. His feet are the deepest black, fading upwards to a clear white underbelly, albeit with a faded look. His shell is, as previously stated, of a pattern that closely resembles the Buddhist wheel. In tortoise form, he is also of the high-necked Galapagos variety, or Geochelone nigra abingdoni. Oddly enough, he is one of the only remaining examples of this breed of tortoise.

Approximately a hundred and fifty years ago, the first knowledge of Azubuike began to emerge. Tribesman spoke of a man who had survived for over fifty years, and still appeared to be in his early twenties. Naturally, in the rush to find his secret, nobody bothered with recording his family, or ancestry, who must surely have shared his common trait. The only differentiating factor was that Azubuike had foolishly admitted to this. Unfortunately, any records of his family, or who they were, or whether they themselves shifted, was quickly lost in the flurry of interest in Azubuike himself. Shortly after this, Azubuike left his home for a life of traveling, which he pursued for years, studying for years at prestigious universities, and even being kept as a zoo animal for about ten years.
After traveling for about twenty years or so, Azubuike entered into the military, and quickly rose up the ranks as a brilliant strategist and tactician, rising to the leader of the army in about twenty years. When war broke out, however, he faked his own death, and entered into a life of travel again, this time in Asia. Over the next seventy years, he filled many vocations, he was a peasant farmer, a transient, an emperor. The most defining part of his life in Asia was, however, his fifty year stint in a Buddhist monastary, where he spent his time doing many things, ranging from farming, to debate, to martial arts. From his own words, it was the happiest time of his life, if only for the simplicity.
Following his time in the monastary, he moved to the more friendly climes of Hawai'i, where he was not too surprised to find an academy for those like him, as he had heard rumors of an academy near Hawai'i. Seeing that the rumors were true, and yearning for some sort of connection to other shifters, he applied to teach at the Academy, as a professor of anthropology, which has been a fairly consistant interest of his.
The first time that Azubuike shifted was when he was about thirteen years old. For him, it wasn't a surprise, as his parents had prepared him for this, telling him of his shifter heritage early on, so as to avoid a withdrawal. Their knowledge of his shifter heritage resulted from his grandfather, another tortoise shifter, who had revealed the secret to them on his three hundredth birthday.
...connecting human to animal
The fact that Azubuike shifts into a tortoise is a reflection on two things. One, his abnormally long life, which is partially genetic, and partially that he shifts into a Galapagos Tortoise. (Arguably, though, these are both the same thing, as shifting is genetic) The other part is that he is almost impossibly calm and balanced, to the point of frustration.
