* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
He wouldn’t exactly call it stealing – more like borrowing. They could always return it when they got back, as long as the guys weren’t just waiting around to see if they would come back with it. He didn’t want to get caught with it, even if they did bring it back. But it wasn’t as if they had been trying to keep anybody from stealing it. They actually had left the keys in the boat. Who did that unless they wanted it to be taken, right? At least that was what he was thinking. After helping her into the boat, he checked it to make sure there wasn’t any hidden holes the guys might have missed. ”You won’t let me drown, right?” He smiled, knowing she was ashamed of even asking such a thing.
Luke stopped searching and walked over to put his arm around her. ”I promise I will not let you drown, okay? Trust me.” He kissed the top of her head and glanced around the boat. Speaking of which. ”And just to be sure…” His voice trailed off as he moved away from her and towards the back of the boat. His hands grasped at a life jacket and he held it up to her. ”Here, put this on. Just think of it as extra protection.” He picked up one for himself and slid his arms through it and snapped up the front of it. It was a little tighter around his body then he would have liked, but it was probably a good thing. Safety was the most important, but he had forgotten to even check to see if it had gas in it.
He walked up towards the steering wheel again and checked the gauge for the gas. It pointed between the Full and the Empty, so half a tank. That was good enough. Where had they said the keys were at again? "Leave the spare key in the tackle box under the seat.” Oh yeah. He began searching under the seats until he found them and held them up. Thank God it was the only one, rather than him having to flip through three or four different keys to find which one worked. ”Ready?” After untying the boat, he moved back to the steering wheel and put in the key to start the motor. It started up easily, but it was louder than he would have liked. If they had been trying to steal it while someone was in the building in front of them, they would probably have been caught.
He moved the throttle into reverse until he had just enough space in front of him to shift it forward and head out towards the ocean. Luke was fully aware of the seat behind him, but he figured it would be harder to drive the boat when he was sitting down, so he just stood up. The boat drove easily enough over the water, so that it didn’t take them very long to get to the other island. But he wasn’t all that experienced with boats and since Rin wasn’t fond of the water at all, he kept it at a lower speed. The other island wasn’t really that far anyways, and once the shore came into sight, he glanced over at her. ”Are you okay?” They hadn’t wrecked and nobody had fallen out of the boat, so that was a good sign, right? He turned his eyes back towards the island to look for a place he could tie the boat up to.
He drove around until he found a place and turned off the key, letting it drift up to the dock. Whether it belonged to someone or not was beyond him, but that’s where he was going to put it. At least until they got ready to leave. As it drifted up to the side, he got up on the dock with the rope and tied it to one of the posts. If they managed to lose this boat, they would have to steal another to get back. That was something he didn’t really want to do. He unsnapped the vest and tossed it down onto the boat and held out his hand to help her up. ”Oh hey, can you grab the key? Don’t want to leave that here.” tagged , Rin!words , 720lyrics , run this town - jay-znotes , I hope this was okay. She had no reason to be afraid, no reason at all -- none, none, none. Rin tried so hard not to cling to him, not to hold on and keep him near her when his arms went around; solid, real... she didn't want to let go of it, didn't want to feel the emptiness of the air against her skin while the floor was rocking and swaying, while her stomach lurched up into her throat-- but he did. He moved, a fierce chill curling up inside of her. Like a child, the moment he was out of her sight --- so brief --- she felt as if her world were crumpling around her, that the person who held it up was completely gone. Of course, she knew she just had to turn her eyes to see him, but she didn't want to, didn't want to give in to that impulse and feel any worse than she already did: so her knuckles whitened where she held onto the bolted chair, her eyes flitting up from the ground, to the open horizon that sparkled at the very edges. Water was a beautiful thing -- but she knew it was just an illusion. It was deceitful and cunning, luring in those with it's sparkling and gentle lapping, with the rocking of the boat beneath her feet, so quiet -- hardly the crashing madness that she knew in her heart.
It could like all it wanted, but she knew the true, so biased and judgmental this truth. It killed. It hurt. Here, put this on. Just think of it as extra protection. -- and she did, though clumsily. It contrasted so vividly against her, she felt even more of a child, so slight, it seemed as if the jacket would squeeze her into nothingness. But there was strength in her, molded side-by-side her bones, tensing up her muscles as she drew her courage and tentatively --- "I do, you know." she said, though she didn't know if he heard her -- held onto the white seat.
The loud roar of the boat startled her, her fingers knotting tightly around whatever was around her: buckles for seats, poles that held up a canvas; breath stopped for one inconceivable moment and she closed her eyes as the boat lurched forward. the Wolf clambered up behind her eyes, refusing to be blind when there was danger all around, when one false move, one quick turn could end her -- what was a little orange vest against the might of the crushing sea? It would still swallow her, bones, life-vest and all. Shivering, get sprayed with some of the water rising up from the cutting nose of the boat, Rin felt herself less than a child. Children, in their innocence, were fearless. She, demented, broken Rin, trying so hard to be something other than the darkness that surrounded her, was only fearless when she scented weakness. There was no weakness in the water -- it surged forward as it would tip the boat over, again and again, though it was a cunning vehicle, bouncing up over it as if it would fly over the hurdled thrown in it's way.
It wasn't so long, not at all ---- but it felt like an eternity nonetheless. How long did she hold her breath before she realized she could not remain that way? How long did she tighten and retighten her fingers, feeling the rumbling roar of the engine ripping through the belly of the boat and trembling in her bones? There was too many mysteries about this -- but she focused, instead, on warmth, on the solid trust she placed in his hands. They were pack -- she would not let him go.
Too long, forever, all too soon: time blurred, but eventually the nauseating sensation of moving had stopped. Tension drained from her in a waterfall: her narrow shoulders trembled as she let go of the seat, slumping forward slightly to rest her head against the seat before her. The Wolf rumbled, it's voice slipping through her consciousness -- they were gone.
Are you okay? She nods, at first, without looking at him, before she straightens her shoulders and stands, scrambling out of the tight vest as if it were poison. "I don't even want to think about having to back on that." she mutters, climbing over the seats in her haste -- she pauses, hearing his voice, and quickly grabs the keys, too hasty in her need to get out.
Reaching for him, she struggled not to stumble as the world stopped it's horrible moving. "I think I'm going to be sick," she mumbles between pale lips -- her heart was hammering and the world was swimming in the most unfortunate way. Slowly letting go, Rin crouched down, her face cushioned in her palm as she struggled against the reeling. "Here." and she blindly handed him the keys. She didn't even want to touch it.

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
Luke knew she wasn’t fond of water at all, so it only made since that she didn’t like the boat just as much as the water. But there really wasn’t any other way for them to get to the other island. There wasn’t exactly a plane for them to take, and he wasn’t so sure he wanted to fly. He didn’t even know if she liked to fly. She had been excited about the idea of going over until they neared the water; he hoped her fun wouldn’t be ruined because she was thinking of when they had to get back on the boat to leave. Rin just managed to grab the keys in her haste escape to get off the boat, and as she made it to the side of the boat he grabbed her hand and pulled her up. Well she had said she was okay – rather she had nodded- but she sure didn’t look like it.
He took the keys in one hand and gently rubbed her back with his other. ”Sorry, but it was the only way for us to come over. If it will make you feel better, you can drive back? Then maybe you would feel a little more in control.” Luke slipped the keys into his pocket and looked around. From what he could tell, this island seemed to be recovering quickly. They had to have been hit just as hard as their island had, but they probably didn’t have a school as big as theirs to repair. When they had first started on repairs for the dorm building, they had planned on moving most of the students out until otherwise, including him and his roommates. The only problem with his room was that it had a broken window and some of their stuff had gotten wet. He ended up repairing it himself, just so they could stay in their room. He had thought that it would have been easier and quicker to fix the little stuff first that would prevent students from staying in their dorm; most people didn’t end up listening to him anyways, even if he turned out to be right.
Luke could smell food even from where they were, so either someone’s oven was working, or one of the restaurants were open. He knew they had an amusement park, but that was probably not in the best condition at the moment. And he personally was not up for being on those rides at the moment. ”I’m going to be pissed if we came over here and there’s nothing to do.” Then again they were the ones that had decided to take that risk, right? And volunteering to help them fix stuff was not on his list of things to do. Not that he was selfish or anything, but he could hardly walk around on the other island without being asked to help. They kept telling him he looked like a “capable, young man.”

It should have frightened her how quickly she was changing -- from one emotion to the next, constantly shifting, moving, reshaping. Like the physical self, the reflection of the emotional soul was writhing, and slipping from fur to the skin, to fur again. What need was there to remain in one, when there were both that were within reach? When she could be this frightened, and then be happy again? When happiness could crumble at the merest whisper, why not be able to snatch it back again? The War wages on, but it was one full of laughter and tears.
Through her tears, the smile tugged at her lips; through the nausea she was feeling the thrill of freedom. What were bloody paws, splinters cutting deep into the soft pad, when she had eternity before her of freedom? What was this fear, when there was this moment of clarity that smacked her so forcefully. Luke was part of it, a piece that could not be replaced: he hovered, his hand rubbing her back, taking the keys from her hand -- it didn't matter what he did. He was here. He was talking to her. It was good -- this way. It would be more than good, this way, if she could just have him by her side to take the darkness away from her vision.
Tears faded, nausea slowly, so slowly, churned and rooted down into her gut, wriggling and squirming so deep into her consciousness, it was slowly forced away. She needn't have to think of the fear -- no point at all, when there was a waking world and a sleeping one. Rin had been asleep too long, and only now, with this wind pressing against her back, ruffling through the fur of the Wolf, could she finally, -- finally!-- see true. She smiled, through the queasiness. "We're here, though." she says, her voice warm, growing heated with that passion that was impossible to remove from the girl.
Without passion, she was simply a shell that walked and walked, without purpose, without voice -- but with it, she burned. So fiercely, a bright flame in the midst of all her darkness. The Wolf curled about her legs, about her body, twining tighter and tighter, forcing the shadows of water away with the impossible heat of her heart: she was without fear. Courage was lent, and with it, came a relief as she stood, as her smile slipped out without guile, without mockery -- this was innocence, but she could not be one without the other. So sharpness soon followed, the harsh edges of her personality striking out as if she were made of spikes.
It wasn't about love or needing to belong anymore. This was about herself -- about him, about the world, the Wolf, which gnawed on her arm with affection. blood spilled over the surface, called by the sharpness of fangs, but it was alright, for there was nothing that could not be shared between the two. They were separate entities, not simply a girl that took the shape of the wolf. It was Wolf, and it was in her black, black eyes. It brought fire, and happiness so sharp it made her bleed, made her heal clean as the contagion of her infectious fear was washed clean. Cut -- cut quick and harsh, unyielding without hesitation: as if it were a limb, the Wolf's fangs cut it out and let it flop to the floor. Fire burned it closed. The scar remained, but what was one more scar to show off? Pride made her smile harsh as her eyes slashed to the side, so keen, honing, judging, herself again. Always this circle that is fought and brought 'round and round.
It was what she sought, through the darkness -- a semblance of self, and always she returned to this haphazard shape: at once woman and wolf. At once beast and human. I’m going to be pissed if we came over here and there’s nothing to do. She grinned, her voice pitched in a teasing way. Seeing again. Knowing again. Condescension held no hold on her -- for she trusted him, and there was no need to goad what was already known. Rin felt easy as she laughed, "I'd like to see you pissed off." Knotting her fingers together, she stretched, rolling shoulders, flexing back -- away, away, that little uneasiness that sliced through her strength.
There was no hold here, for that. Desperation had made her a tool, left in the dark, striking out at anything, anyone who had gotten too close. "It feels so good to have different air in my lungs!" almost a shout as she tilted her head back -- feeling freer, without constraints. "I think we should play a game," that mischievous smiled curled her mouth, much like a cat's though she was nothing feline -- only playful, only insatiably curious: wanting to know the bounds of her own limitations ----- and then breaking free of them.
All walls would crumble. She would make it so. Another smile, easier this time, less sharp, "Yeah, let's go," she responds, running her hands down her arms to take off the excess water. She smelled of seawater, but it didn't matter anymore. She had endured worse -- so much worse! -- for less happiness than what she had just endured. That was the anxiety of the what-ifs. She had endured the now, and the truth. What-ifs could not hold her down, not anymore. So she said, so she thought, but there was still that doubt there -- a cycle, a pattern that had been written. Would she react the same way? Who knew? She waved him onward slightly, surging forward as she tilted her head, "I smell food." her mouth waters, visions of a full stomach, of a satiation that comes only when there is nothing left but that fullness, and sleep tempting the Wolf forward to slobber all over the place. She hungered, for the hunt -- for new horizons.
The girl burned.
"Come on, come on!" she didn't laugh, not really, but there was a lightness in her voice, a trembling note as if she were on the verge of laughter, just not yet -- not quite there. Almost, so close, but she tread the line, waiting to break apart from the warmth that was licking up her back and around her heart with vicious flames of fire. She grinned, but there was nothing human in the smile. "It's time to look for something to do."
If she had known his own, known the track of his worries, she would have certainly lost herself and laughed heartily. Capable young man or not, she would not have him separated from her -- - and there was no way in hell she would be bending her back for some human, looking to take advantage of them.

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
Luke nodded in agreement. ”Yeah. It might have taken forever, but we finally made it.” He turned back to look at her and shrugged. ”Well, maybe it didn’t take us that long after all,” he teased. Though it did take him a long time to visit the other island, but it only took them a few minutes to cross the water. To her it had probably felt even longer. And she was right – they were there. But what exactly were they going to do? That was the question.
He figured it would be great if they could even just walk around. Surely everything wasn’t destroyed, right? Only a few minutes away from the other island and it already smelled like freedom. I’d like to see you pissed off. He smirked. ”Of course you would. One of these days maybe.” It was really refreshing to hear her laugh – so natural, this one of few times. He too stretched, ready for a long walk around this island and who knows what else. ”Yeah, it does.” Luke paused in mid-stretch. ”A game?” Her smile made him smile; the more she did it, the more natural his were. Finally she answered, ready to go. Not that there was much of a rush. What would happen if they didn’t return by dark? Some people didn’t even sleep at night, so it was pretty much the same sleeping elsewhere, right? Not that they were likely to find so much that would keep them busy enough to stay that long. ”Okay.” He shrugged and followed her away from the boat. ”I asked like… an hour ago,” he teased. Again, he had no problem with waiting, because they still had plenty of time to do stuff. He was in no rush to leave this island and go back to the other one – the one he had been in since eighth grade.
He nodded in agreement, smelling the food again. ”Yeah, I noticed that. Something must be up and running.” He wasn’t starving to say the least, but there was no doubt that it smelled good all the same. Although he was already following, she urged him to follow faster, so he picked up his pace until he was beside her. She seemed to be an impatient person when she was in a happy mood – when she was looking forward to something. But it didn’t bother him really. He nodded. ”Okay, well let’s walk around until we find something then.” It hadn’t even hit lunch time yet, which was why the smell of food was a good thing. Even if they couldn’t find anything else, at least they could count on eating. He wasn’t sure if she was carrying around any money, but he had enough to spend with if they had to.
”I wonder if it’s possible to get lost on an island.” Most of the buildings they passed were houses, but after a long line of those, he noticed a sign that read “A Blast From The Past” As they came upon the building, he looked in through the window. Most arcades weren’t two stories and this building didn’t really look like it was made for arcade. But they seemed to have made it worked okay. The bottom half looked like it was closed off, but the sign still said they were open. ”Want to go in?” he asked, noticing a few people moving about inside. He cracked open the door and stuck his head inside. ”Are you open?” He made out an audible yes and looked back at Rin. ”Ladies first?” tagged , Rin<3words , 596lyrics , run this town - jay-znotes , Sorry, I was having trouble deciding on what kind of entertainment they should have, lol.credit , rora @ hos

Perhaps she simply walked, perhaps she ran -- or danced: her toes so light on the ground as excitement pulsed in her veins, as her blood pounded in a thrashing enticement in her ear. Drums were rumbling in the distance -- or was it thunder? No, no, it was her heart, as she spun in circles, her heart starting to pound, her lungs contracting in that delightful way. There was no other way for her to live, no other way for her to walk -- to be so in tune, and completely oblivious at the same time. To be completely ensconced in her own world, that she rarely peered out and saw clarity. Instead, there was madness dancing before her -- puppets dangling and tap-dancing to a tune only the puppeteer knew the source of.
It no longer bothered her. The Wolf ran, in her heart, in her mind, it's jaws gaping wide as it snapped at the wind, as it forced itself faster and faster, pounding, pounding, living, dying -- a whisper of threat as her heart tripped and started up again. Adrenaline surged, life scoured her deep as she burned, and burned. Her soul was writhing, squirming, in love with the chaos, slipping off it's chain to dance naked in the fiery flames. What was the world and it's modern technology in comparison to the intensity in her heart? She was fierce, she was in love: and it rode the very air she breathed. Life goaded her, Luke teased her -- her lips twisted, tongue slipping it's cage and sticking out at him, her finger reaching up and pulling down her cheek. "Nyah!" she replied, barely a reply at all -- but he seemed to forgive her.
Please, she felt the world spinning beneath her feet, moving her faster, faster, her restlessness getting the better of her. There was no destination -- only the gnawing hunger in her gut, the need to move, to change, to strip of these horrible confines and let the Wolf take flight. Would he come, would he run? These thoughts were too quick to confirm, too quick to reply to before they were running away with the very Wolf who had brought them along. She disappeared, reappeared and left again. Glimpses of her thoughts touched her mind, in silence, with pleasure and anger. It wanted out -- Let me out -- and it was almost as if she had been transported to all those months ago, when she had first arrived here. Chaos has reigned, but he had come, and leashed her with his cold icy glare.
The Wolf bared it's fangs; Rin's answering smile was edged with threat. Too late, she realized she hadn't been listening -- hadn't known he was talking to her, egging her on, as it were. She blinked, those dark almond shaped eyes orienting themselves against his own; was it possible to get lost on an island? ---- wanna go in? Ladies first She smiled, but it was more of a snarl, her eyes flashing in challenge, "Lady? You blind?" but there was nothing in Rin that rang with humility; nothing that molded the strange, warped shape of her personality that would give in to something like this. So her tone was almost sweet, edged with that sharpened temper that usually ran rampant. Control? Hardly -- she didn't believe in control, felt only those who were powerful enough to rampage, could do so. So she did, she destroyed what she felt like, and never, you hear, never gave in.
Even now, between friends, passions and familiarity slipping in and out of sight, tying their hands together with a red string of their fate. Bound, by her obsession, and his steadiness. Stuck, in a pattern that could never be destroyed: no matter how much Rin might think otherwise. So she lifted the challenge, with a tilt of her chin, her hair falling back over her shoulder. Where was the girl who had been too frightened of the water to let him go? Was this, then, the epitome of pride? She was stronger, then, by walking in first? Protecting him first? Who knew, who knew -- an echo of a growl resounded through her head as the Wolf lunged forward, fitting every contour of it's amorphous presence in the forefront.
The world ran red with blood, scents and stench and decay of old rotting buildings crashed against her nose: she would not balk. She had walked in first, and would remain so; throwing over her shoulder, "You coming?" she glanced over at him, her eyes drawn regardless of pride, regardless of what passed between them. Anger was swift to come and go -- superfluous before their strength, their need. She needed him; but it didn't mean she had to show it. It didn't mean she must cling and smother what was left of him.
A succubus, perhaps, but one with manners. Her smile was cutting as she glanced through those who paused to look at them -- new, for sure. The island was too small for them to be anonymous. From the other school -- perhaps they whispered it, perhaps she wanted to hear it. The Wolf snarled, but there was only silence in her quiet, quiet smile, in the deadly thread which slivered through her muscles. The arcade was open, that was for sure. Then she dismissed them. As quick as can be, her smile disappeared, her eyes shifted to the side, and she could only stare, "Let's race!" her voice rose a few notches with excitement, like a child who constantly looks over at it's companion, wanting confirmation, wanting approval.
Yes, yes? Her eyes seemed to melt, please? Did she even have money? Slipping her fingers into her pocket, her smile was quick to slip over her mouth, triumph sparking those mellow currents in her eyes, a ripple in the ocean, a flicker in the flame that caused it's heat to rise, it's shadows to cast even longer silhouettes. "I have enough!" ah, so childish, in so many ways. Yet who could ever deny that this face of Rin, was just a little bit, just a touch, cuter than the rest of her hard, angry edges?

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
"Lady? You blind?" He almost didn't hear her over the noise coming from inside. For the amount of people that were inside, it sure was loud. One of the games were making an extremely loud noise. "You wish," he replied, holding the door open further and smiling. The cat was a dominate animal, as far as territory went. This had nothing to do with territory, and Luke himself was not that big on dominance - unless he didn't like the person. He didn't have to be the bigger person around Rin, usually. How she took it was probably a different matter, though. Nevertheless, she went before him anyways. "You coming?" In a silent reply, he stepped inside and allowed the door to shut behind him as he followed, looking around the arcade as he did so. There were ping pong tables that still seemed to be usable, including other non-electronic games. Water had probably flooded the whole bottom floor, which was why most of it was closed off and the top was still open. People stared at them as they stood there, deciding on what to do next. Did they look suspicious or something? They probably realized they had never seen them on the island before. He wasn't very trusting of even people from his own school, let alone people who couldn't shift at all. "Let's race!" The sudden outburst caused him to jump. She was staring at him expectantly, almost as if she was waiting for him to say yes or no. He grinned and watched as she checked to see if she even had money for it. He figured now wasn't the time to tell her that he had plenty of money for them to play games on. Luke reached into his own pocket and felt around for some quarters; he had a few and could always get change later if he had to. He glanced around again and then pressed his hand against the small of her back as he gestured towards the stairs. "Come on. I bet there are some free machines up there to play on." At the top of the stairs he paused only long enough to find a racing game and then held up his coins as he slid into one of the seats. He patted the seat beside him and put two coins into the coin slot. The two choices were automatic or manual, so he chose automatic to be safe. How ironic was it that they were playing a racing game, and he wasn't the best driver in the world. He had been on the island since seventh grade; there was no reason to drive on the island and really no way for him to get a vehicle either. The only experience he had was before he attended the school and that wasn't much. He wasn't too particular about what he was driving, so he closed his eyes and randomly picked one, along with the one of the longer tracks for them to race on. The screen popped up "Waiting On Second Player." "I don't know about you, but I don't drive that well," he said, glancing over at her. "It makes me feel deprived from civilization." Although at the same time, he had no real need for a lot of what civilization offered. Such as computers or phones. Although cell phones came in handy when you were in human form and couldn't shift and you needed to locate someone. In animal form you could just sniff them out. It wasn't like you could carry a cell phone around after shifting anyways.[/blockquote] tagged , RIN!words , 602lyrics , run this town - jay-znotes , Yay. Muse is still here!
