Major Explanation: Panthers are solitary creatures. They aren't exactly ones to hang out and party. Rather, they prefer to stay hidden, watching. That's what Addidas has done in a lot of his free time: watch and observe. But he's kept secrets long enough--he wants to get new occurrences and ideas out to the world. However, the panther instincts keep him from going full out and giving seminars to crowds. Panthers (and Addidas, for that matter) do not like talking to large groups that much (they don't really talk that much in general). So, as a compromise, Addidas chose something that will keep him hidden beneath a shadow; his words will be shared through ink. The ideas will get out to others, but Addidas's identity will remain unmasked.
Animal Identity: Black Panther

Overall:
Addidas is the cool, calm guy. He is often rather obliging, and is always open to new ideas. Even if he disagrees, he still does his best to hear the other side before jumping into an argument. He will try to avoid a fight unless if a fight is completely inevitable, and he knows a couple of good moves since his Martial Arts major childhood friend Azure taught him some self defense while they were kids. He’s a good guy to be around, but sometimes his emotionless air creeps people out. Addidas has emotions; he’s just perfected concealing any thoughts behind his face, that’s all. Only friends who have known him for a long time know well enough that he will say what he’s thinking or feeling if they ask him. Really, how hard is it to ask?
Usually, he is able to keep his cool, but one thing that offsets him is when people don’t give him enough time to do what he wants. Seriously. (The ego thing kind of plays into this, too.) Just be quiet and let him think for a minute or two!
His favorite thing to do is write, after he runs a few miles. Addidas Quick Chase is amazing at running, and does it often for the exhilaration it offers. When he’s feeling at his best, he writes the best. Writing offers him an escape from his life when he needs it, and it’s also fun. What helps his love for it is the fact that he’s good at it, too. He started a blog and about two hundred people check it a day. For the blog, Addidas will choose a random topic and find a way to make it look great. He’ll basically recognize a random thing every day. Once, he wrote three pages about pencils. Normal old, yellow, pink-erasered number two pencils. But honestly, where would mankind be without pencils? We wouldn’t be able to correct our mistakes with pens, and although ink drawings are nice, all detailed, intricate sketches would vanish. Imagine how important pencils are, and no one even gives them any credit! Stuff like that.
Another important thing: Addidas, on the contrary to what his straightforward name or stony face would suggest, goes very deep. He’s dark and mysterious. Yet, he knows himself well: If he doesn’t like something, he has a solid reason why. If he loves something, he is able to give a thorough explanation. (Sometimes his reasons are kind of complicated, though.)
Aside from that, he’s great to be around. Usually he closes up and becomes impassive when he’s experiencing negative feelings. But if Addidas is in a good mood, he’ll open up and have fun. He understands people well since he’s already on the same terms with himself (meaning he’s not awkward or shy, etc., etc.) so he is a great friend who is easy to talk and hang out with, just after you get over that extremely calm manner of his.
...appearance
Celebrity Play By: Hugh Dancy
Appearance:
Standing at about 5 foot 9 inches of athletic build, Addidas is used to blending in with the shadows despite his height, partly because of a difficult childhood, and partly because of his animal alter ego. He is often seen wearing black. No, he’s not an Emo, but he likes the color because it suits him. Silently dangerous. Complicated. Colorful. (If you don’t understand the colorful part, you should study light properties. As Addidas would say, “It’s basic science.”)
He has dark brown hair and stormy blue eyes. It’s awfully frightening if he studies you closely—worse if you’ve upset him. It feels as if his eyes are piercing right through your body, seeing into your soul. (It’s really quite uncomfortable, if you’ve never experienced it before.) What makes it worse is trying to meet his gaze, because then his eyes only become harder, his face expressionless the entire time. But when Addidas smiles, it would make your heart melt, or skip a beat depending on what kind of person you are. Even if it’s just a floppy little grin, his entire face lights up into something beautiful. Unfortunately, Addidas’s smile is relatively rare. He’s had it hard, and besides it isn’t really in him to be slap-happy. He doesn’t like obnoxious people, and grinning until his lips hurt is just as good as being annoying. He naturally keeps a cool expression, not because he thinks it makes him feel tougher. It’s, well, him.
Addidas doesn’t have any tattoos or jewelry, except for a silver chain that hangs from his slightly-tanned neck. On it is his mother’s simple engagement band (the one from his real father, not step). He hopes that in wearing it, he will remember her forever, and that maybe the ring would guide him to his father. Addidas has never met his father, but knows that he got his shifting abilities from him. His mother had passed out when they had tragically discovered his ability, so Addidas thought it was safe to assume that his ability of transforming into a black panther was passed from his father.
When he shapeshifts, Addidas turns into a sleek, lean, mean wild cat of the shadows. In panther form, he is about 4 foot 5 inches from nose to tail of dangerous predator. Since his panther instincts are heightened, Addidas isn’t as good at hiding his emotions in this form. Don’t anger him while he’s a cat, because he will attack. When he’s a happy wildcat, he wears a strikingly similar grin, which is even rarer to see than his human smile because he’s usually focused on something else while in this form. The same feature that remains with him in both human and cat is his dark blue eyes that are mysterious and full of secrets.

...history
Parents: Mother—Missy Chase; Stepfather—Davin Chase; Real father—unknown
Siblings: Stepsister—Collette Chase; Halfbrother—D.J. Quicker Chase; Real siblings—unknown
Addidas wasn’t even born yet when his father…disappeared. His birth parents had been engaged, but for some reason his father left abruptly for reasons no one could guess. Missy Quick hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell him that Addidas existed. But growing up, Addidas didn’t know that at all. No, he grew up thinking that his real father was Davin Chase, a cruel man who abused him. Every morning, Addidas needed to wake up at 4:30 to clean Davin’s house. After school, Addidas returned home to cook dinner, feed the chickens, muck out the horse stalls, and fetch the mail (the mailbox was a few acres away). He would eat dinner at around 8:00 p.m. while he did homework on his couch in the unfinished basement. He’d work until 10:45 before he had a chance to fall asleep in his worn leather couch and scratchy blankets. When his grades slipped, but his halfbrother and stepsister maintained straight A’s, Davin said that “not all kids have it in ‘em.”
Davin was cruel to Addidas’s mom, Missy Chase too. Sometimes, Addidas would fall asleep listening to his mother’s crying in the room above him. Several times, he’d tried to help her, but Davin had beaten him and chased him away. When Missy finally told Addidas that Davin wasn’t his real father, Addidas only knew that he was glad his real dad wasn’t such a jerk. When he turned ten, Addidas began acting more rebellious against Davin. It always resulted in a harsh beating, but Addidas never gave Davin the satisfaction of seeing him hurt. He’d always walk, with straight back and hard eyes, out of the room. Davin never saw even a grimace on his face. Addidas had gained his uncanny ability of hiding all emotions because of his stepfather.
The only good thing about his life at this point was his friends. Even though they sometimes asked him why he looked so tired, or why he always wore the same clothes, they accepted him for who he really was. Addidas felt free while he spent time with them, like maybe he could forget Davin for a few hours of the day and just have some fun.
But only Azure Rossi, his best friend, was able to chase away Davin from his mind completely. She had everything he could only have dreamed of wanting. Great family, not that many chores, bed to sleep in, more than two pairs of jeans… He’d been horrified when she said she wished she lived on a farm.
The two had met very young, and she was one of the few people who’d ever seen him smile. Smile a real smile, one that showed off the whites. When Azure was thirteen and Addidas was twelve (and a half!), they’d hunted fireflies together. It was the funnest moment of Addidas’s life, and he’d written about it in his newly started blog. It went: Ever caught a firefly before? Well today, I did it with my friend Azure. Fireflies are such tiny creatures with remarkable lives. Holding one in your hand is amazing. It takes your breath away, and you can’t help but think “How could a life so small be so beautiful?” With that post, Addidas’s writing caught on. More people began reading it every day.
It was traumatic when Azure was kidnapped. When he’d learned that she was diagnosed with amnesia, he stayed up the entire night writing down everything he could remember about her in a notebook that he’d stolen from his stepfather. Near the end, his handwriting looked like a bunch of chicken scratch, but it had helped. He did it only because he knew that she would have done it for him, should their places have been reversed. Even though he had a difficult life, Addidas had still kept a good heart.
But soon after Azure got out of the hospital, she disappeared. Just like his father. Gone. Without a second of thought. Addidas had been terrified—what if she’d been kidnapped again? He wanted to go after her, but her brother Connor told him that she’d gone somewhere he couldn’t go. Connor left soon after that, and Addidas lost all contact with the Rossis.
He was fifteen when he walked into the house, smelling like horse droppings from his last chore, when he saw his stepfather beating Missy. His vision turned blood red. Davin could mess with everything in his life. He could make him miserable. He could force him to sleep on a couch in a rat-infested basement while his own kids slept in warm beds. He could cause his grades to slip. He could burden him with billions of chores. But he could NOT mess with his mom. The worst thing that could happen happened: Addidas lost control.
A snarl escaped his lips as he tackled Davin to the ground. His claws sunk into Davin’s chest. Addidas’s jaws snapped Davin’s neck before anyone could even react. His mom screamed. Addidas looked down and realized three things: 1.) He wasn’t human, 2.) His stepfather was dead and looked like some horrible beast had killed him, and 3.) He was a murderer. He shifted back into his human form, his eyes wide with horror. He tried to help his mother, who had fainted, but when she regained consciousness, she screamed and grabbed Davin’s gun from the doorframe. Addidas knew he had to run. Run from this life or be sent to the next.
His mother only gave him time to grab his few belongings, steal her engagement ring from his real father, and hijack the truck. He escaped to the Arizonian mountains. There, he found an uninhabited cabin and slept in his first bed. In the mountains, he practiced. Practiced keeping control of his abilities. Davin’s death had been an accident, though rightfully earned. He couldn’t allow himself to cause more accidents. It soon became routine. He’d leave some clothes on the porch, shift into a panther, exercise himself, and return. He often hunted his meals since he couldn’t afford any.
One day, people in lab coats were waiting for him next to his clothes. Once he’d shifted back to human form and put on his clothes, they knocked him out by injecting some kind of fluid into him. When he woke up, he had a swollen lip, a black eye, and was sore all over. What happened next, Addidas still wishes he could forget. The scientists experimented on him. They’d put him in freezing temperatures or stifling ones until he blacked out, to see how well he could survive. When he was unconscious, they’d perform all sorts of tests on him. Worst of all, they would torture him, forcing him to shift into some kind of human-panther hybrid.
Between these so-called “sessions,” Addidas planned. Planned to get out of that hellhole.
His escape was flawless. No one died, and he got out.
When he escaped, he had nothing. Only the silver chain with his mother’s engagement band and a bucketful of bad memories. He didn’t even have any clothes, since he’d been in panther form when he’d run away. Which surprised him when a stranger approached him (he was still in panther form) and handed him a pair of jeans. Once dressed, the mysterious stranger gave him airplane tickets to the Big Island, and boat tickets to get to a different island. The mysterious stranger told him that he could have a new start on this island, where he could be accepted once again. The mysterious stranger also told him that he’d have a dorm room with his own bed, education, and a place to be accepted. Addidas didn’t question him, but took what was offered.
Not like he had anything to lose, anyway.
...connecting human to animal
Addidas is wicked fast. He shifts into a black panther, since cheetahs are so overrated. Like panthers, Addidas is silent, blending in to the shadows until he pounces or plays. He's also very curious like the inquisitive cats, and always listens cautiously to learn more. In both forms, he still maintains the steady demeanor that has defined him so much.

Addidas paced back and forth, his black eyes seeming to burn through the door. Visitor hours? Bah. Azure was in there. She needed him. Emotions churned deeply within. How could they have done this to her? Really, kidnapping an innocent girl and doing who-knows-what was crossing the line. It was cruel. Addidas had wanted to go after those lowlifes, but he knew that she needed him more. Who knows, maybe if he did look for her kidnappers, he would end up getting kidnapped himself. That was the last thing they needed.
Connor was quiet, sitting in a chair and regarding him sharply. Obviously, Connor wasn’t used to having anyone else care about his little sister. Addidas felt slightly uncomfortable under his gaze, but he refused to give Connor that satisfaction. Besides, Azure’s current condition was much more important.
Finally, the clock chimed nine o’clock, and Addidas nearly bolted into Azure’s room. He carried two books with him: a notebook and a battered copy of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. He wasn’t sure if she’d like the book, but he did and it wouldn’t have been worth it if neither of them enjoyed it. He swallowed hard and forced himself to look at her.
“Azure?” He felt like he was squeaking, but his voice was clearly loud enough for her to hear and understand. A lump formed in his throat when he got a good look at her. She’d been horribly beat up and abused. He wanted to shrivel up in a ball and die from seeing her like that, but he forced himself to suck it up. He needed to be a man.
Addidas walked to her bedside, and sat down on a stool beside her. “Do you remember who I am?” he asked, gently.
He felt his heart skip a beat when she considered and whisper weakly, “Addidas?”
Addidas attempted to smile. “You’ve been diagnosed with amnesia,” he told her, keeping his voice mild and calm even though he felt like screaming. “Connor already told you that, right?” She nodded slowly. “I brought this”—he shoved the notebook into her hands—“It’s everything that I know about you. I thought that maybe it would help you remember.” Part of him wanted to keep the notebook. She didn’t need it. She remembered who he was. She probably knew everything. But Connor had wanted him to give it to her. The notebook was the only thing that Connor approved about Addidas.
He checked the time, and exhaled. His ten minutes were almost up. Connor had been strict. Addidas didn’t like Azure’s brother much, but he respected him well enough as a person. “I brought you a book, too. Since you like to read. If you need anything…my number’s written in the bookmark.”
As he turned to leave, he snuck one more look at her. She’d remembered his name.
But Addidas was afraid that that was the only thing she remembered about him. His heart heavy, he left her room.
