Aiden yawned as he walked towards the park near his apartment with Mina leading the way. She had woken him up two hours ago or so, by persistently licking his face, and he hadn’t been able to get back to sleep. Since then, Mina was looking for mischief to get into, and Aiden finally decided to take her to the park. He honestly had never brought her there, solely because he didn’t want to be seen playing with a puppy; that was somewhat childish, in his opinion. Yes, he brought her everywhere, but when people asked, it was because she tore up the furniture when she was alone, and there wasn’t a cage made that could hold her. That wasn’t true, he just didn’t have the heart to keep her in one… plus, he adored his dog, and didn’t want to leave her alone in the first place. He finally decided that since it was early, he could take her to the park without being seen. It was stupid to think someone would judge him because he played with his dog, but everyone has their strange insecurities. Besides, it was mostly the thought of any women seeing him that had kept him away; he could care less about men or kids thinking he was immature. The park was in sight, and luckily, it was completely empty. No one was even walking the streets yet; he guessed it was around six thirty, since it took him about fifteen minutes to walk here. Mina hadn’t realized that the park was their destination, and continued to walk past it, but when she realized that Aiden was turning, she excitedly followed after him. Asphalt and sand were more common for Mina than grass, but whenever she found some, she usually plopped down and rolled around in it. Sure enough, only a few yards into the park, she rolled onto her back and started wiggling around. Aiden decided it was safe to unhook her leash, since the park was mostly fenced in, and Mina came when she was called. She only rolled around for a minute, then stood up and looked up at Aiden, who immediately crouched down, as if he were about to pounce on her. The dog did the same, then took off running, and Aiden smirked and chased after her. When she turned around to start running the other way, he fell to his knees and scooped her up before she had a chance to escape. She squirmed around for a while, then finally fell limp in his arms, content to simply be with her owner. He knew the moment he set her down she’d want to play again, and probably wouldn’t want to stop, so he decided to rest for a minute or two before then. Word Count: 501

This was Isabelle’s first time on the other island, but it wasn’t really all that weird. It would have been if she had spent her whole life back on the island with the other shifters, but she hadn’t. The only difference now was that it was her first time being back around people who couldn’t shift, but she still saw herself as normal. Even with the ability to change, she didn’t use it that often. There was almost no point really. Those that had big, bad animals weren’t fighting bad guys, so what was the point? Still, she enjoyed it a bit anyways. All she had to do was not scream it out to everyone and she would be good. And it was never hard for her to keep secrets.
She had managed to find the park on the island and had to admit it was pretty amazing. It wasn't cricket quiet, but it wasn’t all that noisy either. In her opinion, it was the perfect place for a picnic. The only problem was that she didn’t have a picnic basket with her or any other food for that matter. She bent down in front of some flowers and held out her hand to it. Her fingers touched the soft, purple petals as she gently pulls it forward and smells it. She had always thought flowers were beautiful and loved the smell of them. Especially when there was a bunch of them in one area so that their scent would travel when you were close to them. She turned her head as she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. Isabelle watched as a young man played with his dog and smiled.
”It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anybody play with their dog like that, especially in a park.” Her finger traced over the petal in her hand as she enjoyed the smooth feeling of it on her skin. She released it after a moment and stood up.”Your dog must really love you.” In truth, she hadn’t seen a dog in a long time, other than the one’s at the academy. It was nice to see an actual dog that wasn’t secretly a human inside. Well, she didn’t think the dog was anyways. ”Is it a girl or a boy?” She had started to move closer, but stopped a few feet away. ”If you don’t mind me asking, that is.” W O R D S;; 404 T A G;; Aiden! And just like that, he’d been caught. He should have known better; people went for jogs in the morning, walked their dogs, and went to work... he did think, for a moment, that it was strange that the park was empty, but he just decided to consider himself lucky. Truth was, he just didn't notice the girl who was already there. He grimaced, but quickly composed himself and looked over to see who she was. A young girl, no one he recognized. He guessed she was probably some high school girl, and he tried to keep away from those, so no wonder he didn’t know her. As she stood and walked over, Aiden placed Mina on the ground, and she surprisingly didn’t dart off, since her attention was now on the newcomer. Aiden decided to push his embarrassment aside and act friendly, even though she probably thought he was being childish… or maybe she found it cute? He could only guess, since he didn’t want to come out and ask. “She’s a girl,” He answered her question, then smiled as Mina trotted over to Isabelle, sniffed her ankles, then hopped onto her back paws and placed her front ones on the girl’s legs. Aiden had seen her do this before, and she always appeared to be stretching and greeting the person at the same time. She hopped down after a moment, then returned to her owner. Aiden stood and decided to greet her as well, even though it was an unexpected, and for the most part unwanted, encounter. So, he got to his feet and walked over, extending his hand once he was close enough. “I’m Aiden,” A simple introduction, so he added, “And… I think she loves me,” He shrugged, referring to her comment about Mina. “Either that, or she fakes it to get treats.” He didn’t like to admit it, but Mina wasn’t the brightest dog in the world, so he highly doubted that last statement. She did finally get the hang of sit, though, and would do it on command without fail. Of course, he hadn’t tried it without a treat yet… He looked down at her; she had lost interest in the girl and was now halfway inside the flowering bushes Isabelle had been sitting beside before Aiden noticed her. Something inside the bushes was getting Mina all worked up, since he could hear her growling at whatever it was; a lizard or a bee, he guessed. Word Count: 457

Isabelle rubbed the dog on the head when she came to her. The breed she thought the dog was, was on the tip of her tongue but she couldn’t put a name to it. That happened to her quite a bit sometimes, but she usually substituted the word she couldn’t think of for something else. As he introduced himself, she smiled and took his extended hand, shaking it briefly. ”Isabelle.” Usually, after getting to know someone, she would then tell them her preferred nickname if they wanted to use it. But in this case, she didn’t honestly know how long they would be talking. She pulled her hand away as he began to speak again. She laughed as he commented that she might only pretend to love him for the treats. She didn’t really know any dogs that could pretend to love their owner. Usually they either didn’t like them or they loved them. Even then they only didn’t like them if they were mean dogs that didn’t grow up with their owner.
”I’m sure that’s not the case,” she assured him. ”You seem like you take good care of her.” She watched as she got into the flower bushes that she had smelled a moment ago. For it to be so early, it actually felt pretty good, especially there at the park. Part of her almost wanted to just lie in the grass, but she felt like she might actually fall asleep if she did. She had gone to bed around eleven and was up for no apparent reasons. Classes weren’t in session and as far as she knew, it wasn’t possible to get a part time job while she was at school. Sometimes she actually wanted one, but between classes and her extra curricular activities, it would have been harder to do.
Suddenly she realized something that actually embarrassed her slightly. ”I’m sorry, this is probably weird. I’m somewhat of a dog fan myself and can’t help but admire them when I see them.” She wasn’t obsessed with them, but they were nice company, and it surely beat all of the cats she had seen people transform into. And they weren’t just little cats either. They were big enough to eat her, whether she shifted or not. ”I should... let you get back to what you were doing before I interrupted.” She pulled a flower off the bush and then turned the way she came and started walking. Well that was slightly awkward.
