There was only one thing in existence that could keep Deimon in one spot for more then ten minutes... Well other then teachers, who used intimidation to keep the girl in place. No, it wasn't friends, or a good book. It was the sun.
Perfect, warm days, the sun smiling down on the whole world with out a single menacing cloud to stop it. Days such as this, Deimon had only one option. Go out. Whether it be to run, and play, or to just lay on the freshly mowed grass, plucking at whatever was in reach.
Today happened to be a lazy day.
Half skipping, she swung her tennis shoes in one hand by the laces, her bare feet making little to no sound with each step. A small backpack was thrown over her shoulders, originally white but now looked like someone had just dumped several buckets of brilliant paint on it.
Ignoring the strange looks she got, Deimon dumped her belongings on her favorite patch of grass. Before she could sit though, she stopped, deep in thought. Should she stay here? Or move closer to one of the trees? Sure, she didn't mind the heat, but what if she wanted the shade?
She chuckled, shrugging. If she wanted the shade, she'd go to the shade later. Not right now though. It was WAY to nice to hide under a bunch of trees.
The grass broke her fall as Deimon just plopped down with out another thought. Her arms and legs sprawled out like she was going to do snow angels, her curly auburn hair spread out like an eagle. A minute passed... then another. Soon five, ten minutes had passed and Deimon just lay there, eyes fixed on the cloudless sky as if hypnotized.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
The only sounds Deimon could hear was the second hand of her wristwatch ticking away and other students laughing and chattering among themselves a few yards away.
Swish.
That was a some sort of ball or other projectile, slicing through the peaceful silence as if it were butter. Wait a minute! Why was the sound getting lou-
WHACK!
"Ouch..." Deimon groaned, the ball landing flat on her stomach in it's mad flight. She rolled over, arms wrapped around her stomach as she scowled at the ball that was rolling away. "Stupid, stupid ball. That hurt!" She would have sat up to kick the dangerous object into a tree as payback if it weren't for a sudden shadow falling over her...

As soon as Emilia had stepped on the lawn, she realized a ball had passed her head, she turned to those responsible and shook her head in disbelief, She turned back around and walked towards an empty patch of grass. 'Well that was mature.' Emilia thought, speaking of the actions of the much younger students. They were in luck though, she was in a mood just too good to ruin with some foolish little toss of a ball close to her head.
Her pace was slow and steady, Emilia didn't need to be anywhere quick. She had just gotten out of her last class, which had been a doozy with all the work she was given. But Emilia could do it, she knew she could, She realized something in the air again. It had swished past her hair again and she turned around again and stared at the kids. "HEY! Why don't YOU WATCH where you throw that thing, almost the second time you hit me in the head"
That was when she heard it, the sound of the ball hit another person, 'Yeah, it had to be another person.' She thought, Em walked over to where she had heard someone yelling at the ball. As if it had done it on it's own accord. She looked at the girl for a moment and thought she had seen her somewhere before. Emilia just couldn't place her, she felt awkward just standing around. So she decided to ask her
"Are you okay?" Her voice was raspy, just because she wouldn't talk in her last period class. Too focused is what she blamed it on. Waiting for a reply, she looked at the cloudless sky and smirked. This was her favorite type of day, but also her favorite time of day. Em went and picked up the ball that had hit the girl and laughed. It was obvious that the students saw her with the ball and were wondering what she was going to do with it.
Instantly and in the blink of an eye, Emilia threw the ball as hard as she could back to the younger students. Hitting one of them on the cheek. She laughed a little, and found it hilarious that karma had kicked in. The kid had gotten up and was touching his cheek. A group had gathered around him and Em just raised an eyebrow.
She turned away and the kids did no more with the ball. They had instead decided to go inside. "That oughtta teach them." She said aloud, she crossed her arms across her chest and was satisfied with herself. "Oh, but like i was saying, you're okay right?" Her Ray-Bans were atop her head and the sun seemed to rather bright up her day farther.

A little to late, Deimon realized just how ridiculous she was being, blaming some ball for the actions of kids. She couldn't tell you how many times she'd hit a ball and it'd gone off to target some innocent bystander. Of course SHE'D always gone to apologize. Those little kids looked like they were laughing! How rude! Laugh at someone's pain....
Well she wasn't one to talk.... Both sides of her liked to laugh. At everything.
No longer distracted, she stared up into the face of her 'savior', who looked far to familiar and yet she couldn't put a name to the face. How did she know this girl? No idea! Should she pretend like she remembered, or play off of her bad memory? Best choice? Don't lie! Even if it DID make her look like an idiot.
Time to quickly recover, smile, and cheerfully respond!
"Oh, I'm fine! Just didn't expect it." A sheepish smile touched her lips. "Thanks for asking though!" She was rolling to her feet when this much taller girl chucked the ball at the kids. She didn't notice though. She was much to busy realizing just how tall this slightly older girl was. She absolutely towered over Deimon, by a good six inches, maybe seven!
Deimon self esteem plummeted. Great. More super tall people! Why couldn't she have grown taller then five feet! Curse you height Gods! She would have shaken her fist at the sky if it weren't for the stranger suddenly turning back to face her.
Quickly she smiled again, trying to look completely innocent, and up to nothing. She didn't want to stare off this nice, and yet somehow cruel, new friend! Yes. Friend. She would not let this older girl leave until they were at least 'sort of' friends. "I just didn't see it coming, so I may have overreacted a tad." A short pause. "I'm Deimon! Deimon Allred. Sophmore. Linguistics." Yet another pause as she thought what else she'd be required to say when introducing oneself to a fellow schoolmate. Oh, right. Shifter Academy. Of course she forgot the one thing everyone wanted to know before everything else, even the other person's name!
"Oh, right. Spotted Hyena." Her grin widened. It was still friendly and inviting, but it did resemble her animal side quite a bit. "You?"

"Oh, I'm fine! Just didn't expect it. Thanks for asking though!" Emilia would not have felt right had she not asked. That was just the type of person she is. Emilia watched as the girl stared up at her. The younger girl may not have noticed, but Emilia's line of vision was amazing due to the tasmanian devil side of her. Em found it funny that she was looking so dramatically up at her. It wasn't like she was amazingly tall.
'I'm lucky to be this tall, what with a two foot tall animal shift.'She thought, nothing really against the girl. Em should probably be about her height, but everyone in her family had been pretty tall, especially her grandmother, who was the giraffe shifter.
Emilia left her little world that was a thought bubble and began to tune in again after throwing the ball. Suddenly she heard the small girl speak.
"I'm Deimon! Deimon Allred. Sophomore. Linguistics." The slightly smaller girl said. Emilia would now identify this girl, who seemed to be younger then her as a room mate. She remembered the names, or sound of the names anyways. Emilia was normally very odd towards new people and was kind of worried about how she would deal with room mates. That would be something, to try and get along with people. Emilia was friendly, but when she got angry...she would become fired up. Hopefully not scaring off her new room mate and maybe the first friend she makes in the academy.
She paused for a second, contemplating. "I'm Emilia, Emilia Prescott that is. Feel free to call me Em though, I feel old or in trouble when people call me Emilia." She said, speaking the truth about her name, her parents called Em, Emilia only when she was in trouble.
"Oh, right. Spotted Hyena." She heard the girl say, well Deimon definitely had the laughing and chatty-ness down of the Hyena. Emilia wondered how this girl would react to the fact that she shifted into one of the more vicious animals in the world. Also, wondering what connections Deimon might see between her and her tasmanian Devil counterpart.
"I'm eleventh grade, and history major."She said. Maybe, just maybe she would wait to tell the girl her shift, she figured 'Nah, she seems harmless.' Thinking, and she finally said it. "I'm a Tasmanian Devil shift." Em was now waiting to see the reaction and face of Deimon, who knows what she may think of it.
