Overall:
Rhys is difficult, and getting through to him is a challenge very few have chosen to take on. He prefers to stay silent and observe situations, but if asked a question or prompted to speak in any way, his answers or comments are usually sarcastic and blatantly rude. Obviously, he doesn’t make friends very easily, due to the way he treats people, but because he prefers solitude over the company of others, this is all fine with him. Also, if you make him angry, he tends to feign apathy, and will keep his anger to himself, until finally, it comes out in one big burst. But despite his flaws, he isn’t incapable of sympathy or compassion, and if he sees the true side of someone, rather than the mask they put up for most, he will try his best to befriend them. Something about knowing that others have insecurities like he does draws him towards people, so this is why seeing the vulnerable side of someone would make him want to befriend him. He’s a strange guy, and his negative attitude will usually scare people off, but there is a lot more to him than a sarcastic smart-ass. If he does make friends, their patience with him will be rewarded with a loyal, caring companion. Also, he enjoys being in his cougar form, but when he first discovered he could shift, it was something he hated about himself, since he simply wanted to be a normal kid. He is still accepting this ability, though, and considers it to be a flaw, making him a freak. This is part of why he stays away from people, and part of why he loathes school, but there are other reasons why he is not thrilled about having to return to it. He is intelligent, but tends to fail in any academic environment, because he does not like being told what to do and what to learn. He isn’t respectful towards authority either, such as teachers, principles, and even law enforcement. He is always rude and sarcastic with them, and only cooperative if he’s threatened somehow. He’s definitely rough around the edges, but again, he does have a soft side to him, it’s just been hidden away for so long that he sometimes forgets about it. He’s still finding out who he is, and his adolescence has been a rough stage for him, so who knows, he could turn out to be entirely different. We will have to wait and see…
...appearance
Celebrity Play By:Travis Fimmel
Appearance: Rhys prides himself on his appearance, and is somewhat vain when it comes to his looks. He’s 6’1, with slightly tanned skin from being out in the sun often. His body build is rather muscular for his age, but he has worked hard to get his naturally scrawny body into shape. Yes, he’s a bit of a pretty boy, but he tries to not let his narcissistic side show. Sometimes it will just slip out, though, and will be a total turn off for potential friends. He can usually be seen wearing decent clothes, no name brands or anything expensive, but nothing horrible. Beaten up sneakers, a t-shirt, along with jeans that have been torn and distressed over time, and maybe an old sweatshirt is his usual attire. He doesn’t have much money, which explains the worn out thrift store clothing he wears, but he makes it work. He can be unkempt when he feels lazy, but is generally pretty hygienic, and because he doesn’t like the feeling or look of facial hair, he’s almost always clean shaven. His eyes are light brown, and his hair is dirty blonde, and pretty long for a teenage boy, reaching just passed his shoulders. And let me stress this: he loves his hair, above everything else about him. He takes care of it very well, and will use any product to keep it looking healthy, be it special shampoo, leave in conditioner, herbal gel, or anything else, even if it ruins his masculinity. He doesn’t let anyone else know this about him, understandably, but if someone tells him to cut his hair, or change his hairstyle somehow, expect a very indignant response. Along with his hair, his physique is something he maintains very well, with exercise in both his human and cougar form.
In his cougar form, he is eight feet long from nose to tail, and has the typical coloration of the cougar: brown fur on his back, legs, and sides, with lighter fur on his under body. He is a big, muscular cat, and also has two unusual bends in the middle of his tail, where he was bitten by a young gator. He enjoys being a cougar, because it makes him feel powerful, and one with nature, however he does wish his tail hadn’t been chomped on, because it makes him look sort of funny, and takes away from the intimidation factor.[/size]
...history
Parents: Sheila and John Zacher
Siblings:N/A
Born and raised in Florida, Rhys was taught early on to love all things natural, and this is a lesson from his parents that stayed with him throughout his life. He was often taken camping and hiking with his parents, who adored their only child, and wanted nothing but the best for him. His mother was loving, nurturing and accepting, while his father was the strong, role-model figure in his life. Rhys wasn’t exactly spoiled, because he appreciated everything his parents gave him, but he was undoubtedly given almost everything he asked for. He wanted a cat, they would take him to the animal shelter the next day, he wanted to play soccer on a team, they would bring the after-game snacks… these things were constant, but it never went to his head; it simply made him a happy, appreciative child. This didn’t change, and Rhys’ future looked bright, until his thirteenth birthday, and his first shift.
He was on a hike in one of his favorite state parks with his parents, and was excitedly talking about the birthday party he planned to have on the next weekend. It was an innocent enough scene, but suddenly, Rhys took off in a sprint down the trail, his body changing and contorting until, finally, he was on all fours, and looked nothing like a boy anymore. He was a cougar, and as he continued down the trail, his mother ran after him, and his father, completely shocked by what he had just witnessed, simply stood there.
That day, Rhys had sprinted down the trail to attack one of the park’s employees, but his mother was able to stop the attack before her son killed his victim. The man was taken away in an ambulance, and no one realized it was a shifter who had attacked him. Afterwards, his mother sat Rhys and his father down and told them that her brother was also a shifter, and so were a few other members of her family. His father didn’t handle the news well, and a year later, Sheila Zacher had become a single parent.
Rhys’ life didn’t get better. He began staying in his room constantly, and would only leave for school, until finally, he dropped out at eleventh grade. Frustrated with his behavior, his mom forced him to stay outside the house for several hours each day, hoping he would socialize, get a job, do anything other than close himself off in his room. He did meet people, but the wrong kind of people, and he ended up getting into a fight. When Rhys started winning the fight, his opponent pulled out a knife, and Rhys responded by shifting, and attacking in his cat form. The boy survived the attack, but was wounded badly, and the claw and teeth marks were blamed on a nearby gang law enforcement had been chasing, who called themselves The Jaguars.
Now, he’s here at Shifter Academy, sent by his mother who is determined to teach Rhys some discipline.

...connecting human to animal
Like a mountain lion, Rhys much prefers trekking alone rather than in a group. He is stand-offish, but will always stand his ground, and also like the mountain lion, he is very adaptable to any situation. His personality is suitable with any stalk-and-ambush predator, but he also enjoys hiking mountains, and climbing trees, matching him with the mountain lion.

Memories, bubbling to the surface of his mind, making their way up from the deep, dark place he had kept them for so long. They were impossible to ignore as he ascended closer towards the Drow cities he knew couldn’t be far off. Trust was forbidden here, friends would not be made… he had learned to avoid these things the hard way. He would need to constantly be alert after entering the city, and he would need to go alone. A quick glance over his shoulder told Jhulzyne that, yes, the Myconid was still trailing a few meters behind him. It had followed him for quite a while, but nonetheless, Jhulzyne expected it to leave eventually. Even the most faithful companions had to lose interest eventually…
The sloping tunnel the two had been climbing came to a sudden drop off, revealing an enormous cavern. A city, dimly glowing with faerie fire, lie within it, unmistakably a Drow settlement. He began examining the cliff for a way down, but then remembered, the Myconid. He turned to see the humanoid mushroom directly behind him, looking over his shoulder at the Drow city below.
“You… need to stay here.” The golden orbs set beneath its cap showed no recognition as Jhulzyne spoke. They simply starred at him, unblinking. A sigh of frustration escape the Drow as he grabbed the Myconid’s arm and brought him back down the tunnel, towards a large crack in the wall. He managed to fit the Myconid inside, eyes facing the inside of the crack, so that it looked like a typical fungus growing in the Underdark. As long as it didn’t move, no one would suspect anything…
Jhulzyne turned to go, back towards the drop-off, then abruptly stopped and looked back. It wasn't following him, or moving at all. Hesitantly, Jhulzyne returned to the crack, and placed a hand on the Myconid’s side. Last time he touched the creature, his hand burned for days afterwards, as if its skin were acid, but now he felt nothing. Even though he doubted the Myconid was capable of hearing, his tone was reassuring as he decided to say, “I’ll be back. Wait here…”
