...basic character information
Birth Name: Ethan Michael Daniels
Nickname
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Grade: 12th
Birth date: November 28th
Program: Bachelor of Science
Major: Dental
Major Explanation: Sharks have long rows of teeth in their mouths. If one tooth falls out, one from a different row moves up to replace it; the process takes place their entire lives. Sharks can grow more than 20,000 teeth in a lifetime. Both the upper and lower jaws move and they are more powerful than any other creature in the world. So, you could say that Ethan would do well in a major dealing with teeth! Plus, Ethan has always loved brushing, flossing, and going to the dentist.
Animal Identity: Great white shark
...personality
Likes:
- Surfing:
[/li][li]Seafood and sushi: Amazing. ("Enough said.") Ethan absolutely loves it, especially calamari, even though people think it's rubbery. Sushi is his all time favorite, though he won't oppose sashimi, which is the raw fish stuff that everybody thinks would be gross.
[/li][li]The ocean: The sheer might and power of it simply awes him. He also loves the smell of the ocean, the way the waves wash against his feet, the color of the water under a great blue sky, basically everything about it.
[/li][li]Bruce from "Finding Nemo": Fellow great white. ("Fish are friends, not food.")
[/li][li]Brushing his teeth: Because he's a shark, Ethan takes great pride in his teeth and loves it when they're pearly white. Plus, he can't really brush them when he shifts, no arms, so he has to compensate somehow.
[/li][li]Personal space: Ethan isn't exactly territorial, but he doesn't like huge crowds of people. Like the shark, he often does things alone, but will hang out with other people.
[/li][li]Poker: Ethan is great at bluffing, and enjoys playing this. He usually wins, another thing he likes about it.
[/li][li]Competition: Especially competition that he knows he can beat.
[/li][li]Winning: Ethan thinks it's one of the best feelings ever, knowing that you've done something right and you're rewarded for it.
[/li][li]Going to the dentist: He loves the feeling after his teeth are cleaned and has never had a cavity.
[/li][li]Puzzles and problem solving: Ethan loves the fact that they challenge his mind.
[/li][/ul]
Dislikes:
- Liars:
[/li][li]People who collect shark teeth: Sure, they wash up on the shore and fall out all the time, but you really want to have something that fell out when a shark was eating something? That's a little morbid.
[/li][li]Girls who are always like, "Oh my gosh! I love you soooooo much!" and gush constantly like that: Annoying. Simply annoying. Plus, he likes girls that can hold their own.
[/li][li]People who have their pants hanging around their knees: Why is that "cool?" Wouldn't that make it hard to walk?
[/li][li]Michael Phelps: Ethan hates the fact that someone who was so good messed up so bad.
[/li][li]Hypocrites: If you believe something, you should follow it, okay?
[/li][li]Football: Just an excuse for guys to touch each others butts. And why is it called football anyway? They don't use their feet...that would be soccer.
[/li][li]When people try to get food out of their teeth with their fingers: Gross...just go floss!
[/li][li]Loud noises: Ethan loves the quiet, and loud noises make it hard for him to focus, which is hard enough since he has ADHD.
[/li][li]80s music: He's never really liked it, he's more of a classic rock fan.
[/li][/ul]
Fears:
- Dying:
[/li][li]Being weak: Ethan has always been strong, and that's one of of the reasons that he's intimidating and wins a lot. He would hate for those two things to end.
[/li][li]Fear: ("The only thing we have to fear is fear it self.") FDR was pretty smart when he said that. Fear is a weakness, and no one likes being weak, especially Ethan. Besides, if you have a fear, it can be used against you, and Ethan hates not having the upper hand.
[/li][/ul]
Strengths:
- Conniving/clever:
[/li][li]Strong swimmer: ("You wanna race?") He'll beat anyone at swimming any day.
[/li][li]ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. Basically, that means that Ethan cannot sit still or focus on any one thing for too long. That's both good and bad, because it means he's always noticing things, but he'd love to be able to just sit calmly and watch TV without it.
[/li][li]Determined: Once he's going, it's almost impossible to stop him.
[/li][li]Intelligent: Ethan is actually very smart. He may not flaunt it like some people, but he is.
[/li][li]Adaptable: He's able to accept change, unlike some people, and can do it quickly.
[/li][li]Eyesight: Ethan has very good eyesight, just like a shark. He's never had glasses and probably never will.
[/li][/ul]
Weaknesses:
- Ruthless:
[/li][li]Brutally honest: Because Ethan hates liars, he's taken a vow of honesty ("Think of it as a cruel to be kind thing.") and would never lie to someone, even if the truth hurts them.
[/li][li]Curious: Ethan is always wondering about things around him, like sharks do, but this is one way that he can lose his focus or gain it.
[/li][li]ADHD: See his strengths.
[/li][li]Competitive: Ethan is extremely competitive, especially if someone tells him that he'll lose. Then he becomes even more focused on the win. Because he's so competitive, he often can't see the immediate thing in the future, he's so focused on winning.
[/li][/ul]
Overall:
The two sides of Ethan
On the one hand, Ethan is very solitary and prefers to be alone. But on the other end of the spectrum, Ethan is just a fun loving surfer who likes to hang out with his friends. These situations are bipolar from each other, and depending on his mood, you may find yourself in either one, even if you are one of his friends.
Competitive
If you increased Ethan's competitive nature by just one notch, you would think he was crazy. Which he can get to be, because he is very competitive. Ethan loves to win, and can't stand losing. So beware, or you may find yourself caught in a shark attack.
The ocean
Ethan absolutely loves the ocean. If he didn't have to breathe air he would probably never leave it...oh, wait. Sharks have gills! It's extremely hard to get him away from the water. Extremely. If you even try you'll probably end up with Ethan as your enemy.
The ADHD
Ethan has ADHD, which basically means that he can't focus on one particular thing for too long or sit still for a long period of time. Just like a shark, Ethan can't stop moving, but unlike a shark, he wouldn't die, although he feels like he will sometimes from the jittery feeling he gets.
Intelligence
Ethan is very smart, just like a shark. He's not an Einstein, but he is way above the intelligence level of an average eighteen year old. He loves puzzles and problem solving because they challenge his mind, something that he doesn't normally get from school.
The truth
Always honest no matter what, Ethan can't stand liars. If you lie to him, you've instantly become an enemy. Ethan is considered brutally honest though, because he won't lie to you even if the truth hurts. Who likes knowing their not worth the truth? Not Ethan.
Adaptability
Ethan isn't afraid of change. Far from it. He's able to adapt to almost anything, whether it's a new (sea)food or town, you won't find him in shock.
Curiosity
Sharks are curious like cats, and so is Ethan. Almost anything can pique his interest, and when something does, he has to figure out what it is.
Clever, ruthless, determined
Ethan can come up with witty responses for just about everything, and always has a plan. His plans are always carried out, because he's very determined. Get him going and he's unstoppable, and ruthless. A sheer force to be reckoned with. Take him on, and you're going down.
...appearance
x x
Celebrity Play By: Jake Abel
Appearance:
Ethan's looks are the complete opposite of his parents. While his parents were tan, Ethan is pale, despite all of the time he spends outside surfing. He thinks the reason that he stays pale is that because a lot of the time he's outside, he's under the water.
His hair is blond, and not exactly short. It's not emo long, but is kind of spiked at tips, though he would argue that it's just his hair cut, and that he doesn't use product (which he doesn't, surprisingly). His hair comes down to the low part of his neck, and it's grown into sideburns, though they aren't very big. Other than that, Ethan has no facial hair.
His eyes are a stormy grey that can look like a very pale ice blue. The change color depending on what mood he's in: if he's in a bad mood or indifferent they're grey, and when he's truly happy, like when he's in the ocean, they turn the blue color.
Ethan is tall, very tall. He's about six feet and two inches, and weighs around one hundred and sixty five pounds, which is slightly skinny for his height, which is recommended to be at one hundred and seventy five pounds. His long legs make up a lot of that height, and muscle is a lot of his weight, though his body is more of the swimmer's type.
He doesn't care about style, not very much at all. Instead of shorts, he'll usually be wearing swim shorts. He hates dressing up, so his wardrobe mostly consists of his swim shorts, t-shirts, jackets, and jeans. His shoes are confined like that too, staying in the area of flip flops and tennis shoes. He secretly loves to wear tuxedos, though, and thinks they boost up the intimidation factor.
Ethan's posture says a lot about him. He always stands up straight, making him seem taller and more confident than he already is. His height is intimidating to a lot of people, but his facial expressions are even more so that. They don't change very often, and he usually has a look of boredom or indifference on it.
His facial structure is...unique. It's definitely not cookie cutter, that's for sure. It's long and oval shaped, and his nose fits well on it, though some people would describe it as big, considering it does stick out a little bit. His lips and eyes are the only thing about his face that seem like they belong their.
As a shark, Ethan is one of the biggest. Well, not too big, but bigger than most. Some great whites can reach lengths of over twenty feet, and Ethan is one of them. Spanning at twenty three feet long, his crescent shaped tail and dorsal fin are the epitome of "Jaws." His coloring is the same color as his eyes, stormy grey. Like all great whites, his top coloring breaks off suddenly into a white underside that is as bright as his many rows of pointed teeth.
...history
Parents: Evangeline Daniels* (Currently age 50)
Emile Daniels (Currently age 49)
Siblings: --Ethan*--
Eric Daniels(currently age 8)
*Shifting gene
Evangeline was a ditzy weather woman who fell in love with Emile Daniels, a Navy officer. She was positive that he loved her back immediately, but in truth, he didn't fall in love with her until they had dated for a month.
Nonetheless, their romance was like a love story, he swept her off her feet, and they got married, only to live a happily ever after.
Well, not quite so happily. Within months after their wedding, Evangeline was pregnant, but she didn't want a baby, so she had blamed Emile, who was always off on the naval base. Emile had snapped, but they didn't have enough money for a divorce yet, so they were forced to live with an unhappy marriage, until they made up the next day though.
Nine months later, Ethan was born, the complete opposite of his parents. Red headed Evangeline and brown haired Emile were stunned to see that their son was blonde, and had grey eyes, too, for both of them had brown eyes. But they loved him, or at least they convinced themselves they did.
After his birth though, Evangeline lost her job at the news station because she had gained some weight because of her new son, and the news station was all about appearance. She blamed Ethan, and tried to drown him when she was giving him a bath, only to be stopped by Emile. Then she had played her ditzy routine, convincing her husband that she would never hurt their precious baby. And poor naive Emile believed her.
All of her homicide attempts involved water, but they were foiled each time, either by Emile or by a "freak" thing that Ethan had done, like starting to swim laps before he had officially learned to swim after Evangeline had "dropped" him in the twelve foot deep swimming pool accidentally.
Ethan had faced a lot of these attempts through out his childhood, so needless to say his dad was his favorite parent. His dad was the one who taught him to surf, who taught him how to make sushi, who taught him how to play poker.
By the time Ethan was ten, he had gotten used to his life, though the one thing he didn't expect was a little brother. Yes, Evangeline was pregnant again, though this time she didn't have a job to lose. Ethan's little brother Eric was Evangeline's pride and joy, a male mini-me of his mom. Easy to say that he didn't have to face any murder attempts.
Ethan became more and more solitary after Eric's birth, because frankly, his little brother annoyed him from the time he learned to talk. After he had learned to talk, he wouldn't stay quiet. He always wanted to be involved in Ethan's life, always. So Ethan spent more and more time at the beach, and away from home. He even managed to buy himself his own surf board by winning a big poker game.
But when Ethan was thirteen, his life turned upside down. He was surfing a wave, his mom had actually gone with him to the beach that day, and he had felt a weird pain in his mouth. He had always had good teeth, so he wasn't sure if it was a toothache or what. The feeling persisted though, and he could feel his teeth growing more pointed, and multiplying in number. He was gasping for air, finding that he was having trouble breathing. Ethan's skin felt dehydrated, parched, dry, and his legs had turned into a tail. When his arms turned into fins, only then did he want to cry out. He had always been tough, and had been focusing on the wave more than his new tail, but the fins sent him over the edge. He was unable to keep his balance, and his body felt like it was on fire as his bones changed and his face extended, his body growing gills, and then he fell into the water.
It was an instant relief, but now he felt the need to kill, to hunt. His human self was trying to fight it, but only managed to keep himself away from the humans, going after schools of fish instead. After his urge to kill had been sated, he managed to shift back, floating to the surface and finding his surfboard right in front of him. That was good, because he was naked, and needed something to cover himself with.
Only his mom had noticed his disappearance, and she had taken off her sunglasses in alarm, her eyes wide. She explained to him what had happened, and immediately booted him off to the Academy, not because she cared about him learning to control his ability, but because she now had an excuse not to have to take care of him herself.
...connecting human to animal
One of the most obvious reasons that Ethan is a great white shark is that he's a strong swimmer and his ADHD (sharks can't stop moving or they'd die). Great white sharks have great eyesight just like Ethan, and they're both intelligent (sharks have shown problem solving abilities). Ethan is intimidating and ruthless, just like great white sharks are seen as. His love of the ocean and seafood is an obvious reason, too. Great white sharks are also very adaptable when it comes to areas to finding food, and Ethan is adaptable as well. Great white sharks usually hunt alone, but have been documented socializing and playing with other sharks. Like his shark, Ethan is the same way: he likes his alone time, but will hang out with people. His curiousity is yet another reason (sharks bite and eat things because they have these sensor like things that alert them to things around them). Also, Ethan's eyes are the same color as the top part of his shark.

RP Sample
Ethan was sitting on the private dock, his feet dangling into the water. He was alone, surrounded by nothing but the stars and the wide open ocean. He had never minded being alone, though, it was actually a comfort sometimes, not having people (Eric) breathing down his neck or asking why he had a surfboard with him, or why his eyes were gray, or--
Brushing his hair back with his fingers, he tried to calm down, slowly kicking his feet through the waves and watching the seagulls flying by.
He drummed his fingers on the aged wet wood. The wood felt soft underneath him, and he knew that if he looked down, he would see the barnacles that had accumulated through the years on the under side.
The moon looked down at him from the sky, and he grabbed a piece of sushi from the lunchbox next to him. Ethan popped it into his mouth, savoring the seaweed it was wrapped in and the fishy taste of the tuna.
Ethan tried leaning back on the dock, but then sat back up, kicking his feet a little faster, watching the waves break because of them.
His fingers were still drumming, and he felt more fidgety than he had in a while. The ocean was calling to him, telling him to come to the water. Ethan cursed not bringing his surf board, but then got an idea. It was bold, but now he was determined, and nothing could stop him.
He stood up, leaving the sushi where it was and walked about fifty feet away from the dock, watching the ground darken underneath his wet feet.
Air went in and out of his mouth. He could do this, all he needed to do was not think about it and he would be fine. But for Ethan it was hard not to think about a running start. He continued to breathe slow deep breaths, and then he was off.
The ground moved underneath him as he plowed forward, ready for what he had decided. The water was closing in, if he was going to do it, he needed to do it now.
Ethan arched his body, arms extended like a bird as he was airborne, but he didn't intend to be like a bird. No, his arms were his fins, and his teeth grew bigger and more plentiful as he shifted mid-dive.
As soon as he hit the water he felt insanely better. He had to keep moving no matter what now, there was no other option. The ocean bended to his will, him, now a monster of the deep.
Water came into his gills, and he would've smiled if it were possible. His tail kept him moving forward, and he soon spotted a school of tuna. He swam forward, thinking that they'd taste better than the sushi he had just eaten.
