What to do? What to do?
That was definitely the question in Karter's mind. He was bored sitting in his room and had a grand total of 0 ideas on what to do. He had just finished a crossword puzzle (which he really enjoyed) but now he was bored again. It was later afternoon and he was trying to think of where he hadn't gone yet that would be a good place to visit. Flamingo lawns? Nah he walks by there everyday. The library? Nah he didn't feel like reading. Oh what about the spa? He let out a small chuckle. He wasn't stressed enough for a massage. He was running out of places.
He was craving a piece of chocolate cake. That's exactly what he wanted. But where in this school can he get that delicious treat? Well he could go to the cafeteria, though that is boring and normal. Everyone goes there and he was getting sick of it to be quite honest. Everyday, same food was served and it was a repeat day in and day out. He wanted to go somewhere else, and there had to be somewhere else that had his craving. He thought for a bit as he wandered around his dorm, picking up clothes from the floor. Karter was not the neatest person in the world, but he really couldn't care less. He didn't have a roommate right now so he didn't have to keep tidy for anyone.
Then it hit him like a tidal wave. There was the other island not too far from this one. It was the one with the "normal" humans. Ugh how he hated saying that. Normal. What is normal? Well definitely not him. Honestly, he didn't care what anyone thought of him for this, but he LOVED being a shifter. He is basically a fish since he's always in the water anyway, so why not a monstrous, majestic creature of the sea? Exactly. People looked at him like he was from another planet when he said he liked his shifting ability. The way he looked at it was, he had to live with it whether he liked it or not. If he learned to like it (which he did), it could be more enjoyable.
As he was thinking about all this, he decided that he was going to shift on his way to the island and swim there. He would get there in half the time, and it would be so relaxing and fun. He just had to be really careful with the humans there. They couldn't know or horrible things would result to this awesome school. He was so nervous that one day, they would all find out. He couldn't think of this for long because it really does freak him out. He grabbed a couple of things and was ready to walk out when he remembered. He couldn't shift and swim there! How would he bring his money and clothes? Since shifting results in the tearing and disappearance of those. Shoot, he couldn't. He really had to think of ways going about shifting and keeping objects before getting excited about it.
Ah well, not this time anyway. He decided to make his trek over to the other island. He left the school and started his walk to the bus stop. The bus finally showed up and he sat in it, driving, and driving, and driving, for what seemed like an eternity. Man, this would've been so much faster if he had just swam. Ugh. And all this just for a piece of chocolate cake. It better be good here. He had never been before.
He finally arrived at the island. The smell of the ocean air hit him so hard that it killed him not to go for a swim. He almost decided that he should swim back home or take a short swim now. The urge was almost unberable, but he decided to save it for later on. He painfully turned his back to the water and started walking to the cafe. The smell following him as he lunged on. It was killing him, but he had to refuse especially being on this island. You never know if you can get caught or not.
He opened the doors to the cafe and noticed that it wasn't very busy. He looked at what was up for grabs and, thank goodness, the rich looking, truffle filled, delectable chocolate cake was staring him right in the face. He ordered it, sat down at a table, and took his first bite. It was like an explosion of delicious amazement in his mouth. He was very happy that he decided to take this trek, even if he couldn't swim. The cake was worth it. count :912 tags:Anya noted:I'm not editing so this whole thing could make no sense and I wouldn't know credited: KBIRD of caution 2.0

. She wondered if they understood the world around then and if they knew just what was out there. People deny aliens, but once one showed it's face, how could one deny? If they showed their faces as shifters, what would happen to them? She suspected rejection. She suspected the terms of human stupidity setting in. She suspected there would be violence against their kind, just as she was sure she had seen somewhere at some point in time. Maybe it was through this, if not in memory but in dream, that she couldn't bring herself to tell her mother. Lying wasn't her normal game, but self-preservation was of much importance. Even if her mother was an understanding woman, she feared her change of view of her daughter more than anything else in the world. She feared those eyes to change. From a loving glance and a touch on the shoulder to that of disdain. Humans were so flawed. And yet, she was one, wasn't she? Maybe she had the difference in ability, but she still had the mentality of one. Well, an open-minded one. Maybe, if you had a difference in your perception you could hope that perception could be caught onto others. She wasn't sure, but people were stubborn and tended to stay in their own beliefs. That which was new was scary and what was scary in their eyes had to go. It was not normal and it had to go. It was as if she had found her own inner hate for mankind in those moments that she thought of human stupidity, but in the end, she didn't hate them for it, she pitied them for it. She wished more than ever that she could open their minds. Her eyes adjusted as she walked into a small building. The wafting scent of sweets, coffee and chocolates had entered her nose only moments earlier, and they had somehow subconsciously brought her that way instead of finding the place she had originally come for. Her eyes paused at the menu, taking very little notice of the lack of clientel. If her body had brought her there, then there had to be a reason, right? Nothing happened for well, nothing. A small smile fell on her lips and she stopped at the register ordering herself a small iced tea and a muffin. Her eyes wondered over the food, stopping as she noticed three young boys come in. They couldn't have been over twelve at the most, but there was something disturbing about their chatter. She couldn't catch their conversation in time to understand what they had just done, as they seemed to be chuckling. So, she pushed the thought to the side and took a seat in a two person booth. She slid in, silently looking out the window into the warmth of the day. It was a pleasant sight with the beach in the far distance. So beautiful, but dangerous, if you really got down to it. “Man! That was SO cool.” One of the boys exclaimed. Her head turned to the side, but she tried to keep her gaze from the boys in hopes that they wouldn't think she was eaves dropping. She wasn't there to be rude, it was just the general interest in people that she had as a writer and there was something peculiar about their movements, as if they had just gone on a long run and were full of adrenaline. Hyperness, really. “That bird didn't see it comin'! WHAM. POW.” There was laughter to follow, and she felt the shift of air against the sweat upon her back as the door opened again. She caught sight of an older man entering the store, but she wasn't concentrated on him, instead she was concentrated on the conversation a sudden panicked feeling in her chest. “Yeah, man! We were like ninjas! We got a bird with...wait, what was that saying? Ah, who cares? We got that stupi--” She felt that temper in the back of her head surface, as it seemed to do only in moments that she was highly stressed. “Two birds with one stone would be the saying though, it has absolutely nothing to do with what you did!” Her voice came out louder than she meant and she quickly got up from her seat, moving towards the table that the boys sat at. “Stupidity like yours is what makes beautiful creatures like that FEAR humans. You hurt them for absolutely no reason. You know why animals hunt other animals? For FOOD, and nothing more! They don't waste the flesh and it all goes around in a cycle that obviously you only are here to destroy you destructive little assholes.” Her nose flared with her anger, and she had no intentions of backing down.[/ul] Tag:

This cake was the best piece of cake he had ever had in his life. The chocolate was so soft and moist and the combination of the ingredients was just amazing. He never wanted it to end, but sadly he was already half done. He was debating on whether he should buy another piece a little later, but he figured he would worry about that when the time comes. He used his lips against the fork to get off all the chocolate on it.
Fork still in mouth, he paused. He noticed a girl come in through the door that he thought he had recognized. Could she be from Shifter Academy? It was tricky to ask anyone here if they were from there since you don't want to ask the wrong person and they ask questions about what kind of school that was. That would be very bad. He took the fork out of his mouth and their eyes met briefly. He looked back down at his cake and took another small fork full and put it in his mouth. He probably shouldn't stare at her, but he could've sworn he had seen her around. Maybe not.
After she had walked in, he noticed a couple of guys walking in gloating and bragging about killing a bird. Karter was furious with them but sat down. He always spoke his mind and was ready to blast them for killing an animal. Being a shifter had really opened his eyes to the torture or killing of any animal. He would never again kill any animal for it might be a person in their shift form (you never know now). That bird could've been one of his friends from school. He was getting very angry but he needed to just mind his own business right now. It was something he was working on as he usually didn't mind getting into people's personal problems and conversations. He had to fight the urge.
But it was the next event that really startled him. The familiar girl spoke. “Two birds with one stone would be the saying though, it has absolutely nothing to do with what you did!” She was obviously very angry. Probably as angry (or angrier) than he was. He sensed the boys were a bit frightened though they didn't show it. He decided that this was time. He got up out of his seat and started walking towards the argument. He listened as she continued to yell at them, “Stupidity like yours is what makes beautiful creatures like that FEAR humans. You hurt them for absolutely no reason. You know why animals hunt other animals? For FOOD, and nothing more! They don't waste the flesh and it all goes around in a cycle that obviously you only are here to destroy you destructive little assholes.”
She was on a roll, but he had now reached the table and decided to speak right away. "Whoa, guys enough" he said trying to break up the argument before the guys had time to shout back. He knew they wanted to and they were about to open their mouth before he spoke again, "Don't you dare say a word" he warned them pointing at the boy who was about to open his mouth and speak, "You killed something innocent, you are a horrible person and downright selfish. Good bye." He finished his very blunt thoughts in a stern tone. He then grabbed the girl by her arm to take her away from that table. He led her to the table that he was sitting at and sat down to finish his chocolate cake.
"You don't have to sit with me," he started, "but do not go back there. You are welcome to stay here until you cool off if you want." He said it in a friendly tone though he knew he was probably coming off as a bit intimidating (as he always does). Again, something he was trying to work on. He took another fork full of his cake and put it in his mouth. Once it was off his fork, he pointed to the chair with it, hinting that she should stay for a bit.

Yeah. Like she was some kind of horse that—She felt the bitterness coming out of nowhere and wondered where her mind had went. She took a deep breath, turning ever so slightly to catch the young man better as he spoke. She might have smiled at his use of words any other time. Yes, the bird had been innocent, but in the end, so were the boys. That wasn't to say that they did not know better. They knew wrong from right well enough, but it was their age and the way the-- She felt her arm being tugged and before she could say anything to the boys, she was off. She didn't want to pull away, and though she might have tried if it had been someone else that had done so, she decided he was doing so for good intentions, and if he wasn't then there was a good chance she might have to force herself into a shift, or, well, call for help. They were still in a very public area. She stopped when he stopped, looking at him with an almost angry glare. He was just moving her? As if he thought he knew better than her when to leave a confrontation. She crossed her arms, but lessened her glare. Instead she took the boy in, listening to him as he spoke. He had a genuine voice, or so it seemed. There was a sturdiness to his words, as if he knew what was business and there was nothing that could really get him to think otherwise. Well, maybe, or it could have been a confidence. Something that she always respected unless it was turned into cockiness. No. That just wouldn't do, would it? She rubbed fingers across her arm, and watched his movements carefully. She said nothing at first of his offer, though it seemed less than an offer and more of an order just by his body language. She walked past him, stopping at her table to get her drink and muffin. A short trip back, and she slid into the chair across from him and placed her goodies in front of her. Her nail tug into the top of a blueberry, gently cupping it and lifting it on the nail. She placed it absently on her tongue, her eyes never leaving him, as if looking at him might answer all her questions as to why he thought he had authority of her. “So, can I speak a theory, with you? I don't know your name, but I'm going to say, for this Theory, that you are Alpha male. You're quite possibly an only child but I suspect you're the older child, or one that took the place as the older child in stature. Now, there's a chance, either way that your life was a good life, but it might have been a rough one too. With the confidence to grab a stranger, after walking into a confrontation suggests that both scenarios are possible.” She turned her head just ever so slightly, “But, let me continue, because I'm surely not finished. The way you speak, you, Mr. Alpha Male, like to see what you want. If it doesn't go your way then you're going to find a way to make it your way. You're confident, but overly. It makes you look like an ass, no matter what your intentions. Don't tell me, overcompensating for something?” The last sentence came off with the venom she couldn't quite place and she pretty quickly felt her cheeks turn red. She had overstepped her boundaries and put her foot in her mouth. She quickly looked down at her muffin as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. How could she have said something so rude? That wasn't like her. These bad moods had to pass or she was going to see someone about them. It just wasn't right to say something rude to someone, especially given that his intentions were indeed good. She stuck her finger into the middle of her muffin and ground her teeth together, her lips rubbing back and forth with the action. Her nose gently scrunched and her gaze was back on the young man. “I apologize, it's not been a good—well, I apologize. Thank you for stopping that atrocity over there.” Her eyes moved towards the boys, but she stopped short.[/ul] Tag:

He noticed that the girl he had grabbed away from the scene had grabbed her muffin and drink to the table in which they were sitting at now. Psshh. A muffin. He was enjoying more of his cake than he ever would from a muffin, especially one that looked like that. She kept digging her nails into it and putting pieces into her mouth and he just didn't like that about muffins. You have to unbuild the dessert and then eat them as if it was in two differen't parts (the top and the bottom). Cake was so much better. You did your fork into it, you put it in your mouth, and you actually enjoy the entire thing. Yum.
He listened as she finally opened her mouth to speak. He instantly thought she was going to say something about those boys and how she was happy to get away from the scene. He was far from right as she spoke, “So, can I speak a theory, with you? I don't know your name, but I'm going to say, for this Theory, that you are Alpha male. You're quite possibly an only child but I suspect you're the older child, or one that took the place as the older child in stature. Now, there's a chance, either way that your life was a good life, but it might have been a rough one too. With the confidence to grab a stranger, after walking into a confrontation suggests that both scenarios are possible.”
Like, what were you talking about? He was completely shocked that she was guessing his life. What the hell was wrong with this chick? Was she some sort of psychic or something? Before he could even say anything, she continued, “But, let me continue, because I'm surely not finished. The way you speak, you, Mr. Alpha Male, like to see what you want. If it doesn't go your way then you're going to find a way to make it your way. You're confident, but overly. It makes you look like an ass, no matter what your intentions. Don't tell me, overcompensating for something?” Now he was getting angry. She was using the first impression (the very mini first impression) that she had of him and guessing his entire life. Karter wasn't sure if he wanted to be surrounded with such toxic attitudes such as hers. This was really ticking him off and he was not going to let it slide. Though just as he was about to blast her, she continued “I apologize, it's not been a good—well, I apologize. Thank you for stopping that atrocity over there.”
He noticed her face blush. She was embaressed now. He didn't care though as she had just completely tore him to shreds (in a way) and he was not taking this lightly. Karter always spoke his mind and, because of that, he couldn't sit there and not say anything. So he spoke, "You've known me for thirty seconds, don't you dare go and make assumptions about my character like that." He had a stern tone and he was trying not to get more angry, "If you want to get to know me, you ask me questions. You DO NOT throw assumptions at me, about me, and hope that they are right. That's rude. Besides, you know what they say about assuming. It makes an ass out of you and me."And that statement held true just now. He felt as if he was made an ass of right now, and she looked like an ass saying it all. He went a bit lighter than he would if she had not apologized. He was ready to blast her. He didn't care who she was or how nice she was, no one does that to Karter. He took another bite of his cake and, once he was finished swallowing, he said, "But you're welcome for getting you away from that situation." He was almost positive that the whole thing started because she was a shapeshifter like him and attended Shifter Academy, though he wasn't sure how to bring it up in a way that would be ok to hear if she wasn't a shifter. He decided an introduction was in order, "Let's start over, I'm Karter" he held out his hand to shake hers, "Are you from this island?" Maybe that was a good way of going about things. If she said no, then there was a very good chance she was from Shifter Academy for, if she lived any further away, why would she be in this cafe? Normally Karter would not start over with people after their first impression was already made, though he really wanted to know if she was in the same shoes as him as far as lifestyle goes. ? Why did everything she do for the past few weeks have to leave her with self-doubt and this unknown feeling of self-hate. Maybe it had always been there, but it was coming forth stronger and stronger as long as she was here. Why couldn't she just go home? She bit harder, feeling her skin on the edge of breaking. Her pressure lessened, and she found it quite hard to look him in the eyes as he spoke. He was right, in all that he said, of course. It had been simple rudeness if anything. It had been... stupidity. That's what she had brought herself down to. Stupid actions that only brought her more shame. Another feeling that she had been feeling quite often as of late. She could feel the panic in the back of her mind and it was hitting her throat as if an apple core had fallen in between her tonsils. She swallowed hard only to choke on her own saliva. She bent down, an aching pain coming as the powerful coughs erupted. She didn't move from where she had bent, and instead placed her hands over her eyes. At the moment of weakness she had lost control of her emotions. It had only been a distracting cough, but it had been enough to have that door opened. The tears were falling, if not for the embarrassment, but for the week. For the months. For the years. For the bird. She wiped her hand hard against her eyes. She could imagine the bird. They had said something about hitting it with a stick, didn't they? They'd probably gotten it on the ground unless the bloody idiots had learned to fly. She doubted that more than anything. Her sadness was quickly, if not overly quickly, turning into anger. Was she bi-polar or something? She didn't care. All she cared for was that image of the bird with a broken wing. Had they stepped on him? Was it still alive? Did they say they had killed it? Or did they just knock it down? Fuming anger hit her face and without as much as a thought her neck snapped towards him as if daring him to say anymore. She didn't catch his last words and instead grabbed her muffin, almost smashing it in her palm to a pulp, that she wished was one of those boys very heads. It was a quicker movement than she had expected of herself, and in fact, she wasn't even sure where she got her sudden strength. Because as soon as she reached the boys, she grabbed the nearest by the shirt of his collar and lifted off his chair. Her teeth gritted as she talked, she felt the smashed muffin run between her palms and his collar. “Look. Little shit. I don't care who you are. But you hurt a bird. And that bird has feelings, and I've had a bad enough day. Did you f*cking kill it or not?” The boy didn't struggle at first, but it came pretty suddenly. The others seemed a little too terrified by her actions to do much as of yet, and it seemed the staff had been quickly alerted as they spoke amongst themselves unsure of what to do. If she had any rational thought left in her she would have let the boy down and would have walked away, but that had been thrown out the window and she was no longer rational and ever-trying-sweetness Anja. She was angry, lost and tired. The Anja little kids didn't want to piss off. But these boys had been unlucky enough. “I asked you a fucking question!” She jerked at his collar as he was struggling. She could feel his own tears welling up, and it was with that she felt her mind snap from angry to that ever present shame. She quickly let him go, and took a few steps back, as if dumbfounded by her own actions. Crumbs of muffin against her hand, she wrung them together, her chest heavy and almost painful with regret. “I—no, We just hurt. I do—I think it might be ali...still.” The little boy was choking on his words and she could see others coming her way, probably for her act against the young man. Her chest was about to break, and her breathing was suddenly going more quickly than her lungs could handle. She felt her body collapse back from the straight of her heart and lungs. She caught herself on one of the chairs, and without as much as a word she bulletted out of the building, and went towards the ocean.[/ul] Tag:
