I have a couple of questions. First: can a woman still shift when she's pregnant? Would it have an effect on the baby? Second: Is it possible to find out about the Academy if you don't know someone who went there? I'm wanting my character to be raised by a single parent. The missing parent is the shifter and never told their partner about the ability so it's a big surprise when the child first changes. The parent wouldn't know about the school, is there anyway they could find out? Like, could they just google it or something??

Of course the person can be pregnant and shift xP... I'm sure it'd make the child more likely to be a shifter though. No real humans know about it... but, when word another person shifted gets around brochures or something might be sent out...

Okay, if you've got a single parent who isn't the shifting portion of the gene pool, then we can't have that parent really knowing about the shifting because people are people and they trust other people who trust others, et cetera. So you'd either have to bring the other parent back from somewhere (or like, a dying wish or something) for the student to be sent to Shifter Academy. It's all pretty mysterious on how each student manages to attend school here, but they would have to have some sort of connection so that they do know about it. Otherwise, there's no real point. And parent's can't Google it because it's non-existent to the rest of the world, on a deserted island, you know what I mean? It wouldn't be reasonable for a parent who is a human not to know about it.

I understand, that's what I was having trouble with. I think the Shifter parent is going to get a Shifter sibling that shows up and gets him to the school. Would the normal parent be allowed to know about it or would they have to be kept in the dark?

Mmm, no they can't. ): It's just a general issue that that parent couldn't be trusted with the secret that people can shapeshift, you know? Like, the shape shifting parent could be like, "D< ARGH I'M TAKING MY CHILD TO A BOARDING SCHOOL." and then take them to Shifter Academy. It's just like, an exposure issue because no one can know, dawg.

I can work around the human parent not knowing about the school, or at least what kind of school it actually is, but are they not allowed to know that their child can shape shift at all? That might be a bit more difficult. The human parent wouldn't want anyone knowing, if that makes a difference...

Mmm, that's a good point. But they just can't know. There's always the possibility of it getting out and the Academy just can't risk it. ):

This would be so much easier with some sort of mind wipe device that The Academy could use on the parent... it's cliche I know haha but something to trick the parent into thinking that The Academy is a place for really smart kids or really rich kids or really (insert adjective that applies to your student) kids...
