- Brutally honest
Overall:
If you ask for Calista's opinion on your hair or anything, really, she'll give it to you, whether it's mean or not. She's always honest, and absolutely hates people who lie. She can seem stuck up sometimes because she usually looks down on people who lie. Her opinion on lying is that if you lie, you're basically saying that the person you're lying to isn't worth the truth.
Calista is very loyal though, and would never betray anyone who has either earned her trust, or anyone she loves or cares about. Her loyalty can sometimes be seen as clingy, so most people don't get close enough to see that trait in her.
She's not afraid to delve into the unknown, but she never thinks of the consequences. She's not the type of person to make plans, she just acts. "It's just like cooking without a recipe."
Calista loves to cook, and eat, but mostly cooking. It's her life's goal to own her own restaurant. "The kind of restaurant I want is a place where everyone can come. I want there to be seafood, and Greek, and Chinese, and sushi. In short, I have high hopes, but you can bet that I'll achieve them." She's an amazing cook, she always has been, though some people think her creations are a little strange, especially her lobster crepes.
Calista also loves to paint, and she does it a lot, but only because she cooks a lot. If she's having a hard time picturing what she wants her finished culinary product to look like, she'll get out her easel and paint set, and fine out some of the rougher parts of her creation. If she can't paint something out, she'll use the ink pens she uses for writing to sketch something.
She also loves to swim, especially as an octopus. She finds that it's easier to do then, but she won't object to swimming as a human. "My favorite part about swimming is definitely the feeling of being free, being separate from your troubles. Well, that and the feeling of power, of control."
Calista is very smart. She's definitely above average in her intelligence. She's not an Einstein, although some people think she's close. She's always done very well in art and science classes, with close grades in the other subjects.
She loves martial arts, and she's actually pretty good. Calista is great at multitasking, and she likes to do that while practicing her martial arts. "Oh yeah, I'm good at multitasking. I remember quizzing myself on how to conjugate Greek verbs while doing taekwondo."
Calista is great at blending in, at hiding in plain sight. You could walk by her, knowing what she looks like, but miss her if she didn't want to be seen. She usually wears her heart on her sleeves though, well, her hand, through mood rings.
Calista has a fear of forgetting her heritage, and with that the memories of her father. "My heritage is who I am. Without a past, what are we?"
...appearance

Celebrity Play By: Brenda Song
Appearance:
Calista is obviously Asian, anyone can tell that, through her facial features, dark hair and eyes, tan skin, but it's the Greek that people have trouble finding. The Greek comes through in the tan skin, and her heart shaped face, and even though it's not obvious she's Greek, she is.
Calista has tan skin, naturally, though she does spend a lot of time outside. As an octopus, her skin is usually orange, though like all octopuses, she has the ability to change the pigmentation of it.
Her hair is dark, and curly, with light brown streaks in it. Her hair is almost always curly, though it is sometimes wavy, mimicking the arms of her octopus. Calista will sometimes straighten it, but that's not often. Her hair reaches the bottom of her chest when it's wavy, but closer to her shoulders if it's curly. She hasn't straightened it in a while, but it's around the middle of her stomach, then, unless she recently got it cut, and then straightened it, where it would be closer to her shoulders.
Calista weighs around one hundred and twenty pounds as a human, and fifteen pounds as an octopus. She's around five feet and five inches tall, and is about twenty three inches long as an octopus, almost two feet.
Calista loses her spine as an octopus, for they are invertebrates, and her mouth turns into beak-like jaws. She obviously has eight arms, but unlike a true octopus, she can't grow one back if she loses it.
Calista is a common octopus, but she likes to think of herself as uncommon in the way she dresses. She doesn't often wear t-shirts, and feels like she's above average in her outfits. Her style is dressier, more classy, than an average sixteen year old's would be, but she doesn't really mind. She almost always has a swimsuit on underneath her clothes, and an apron in her bag. She loves wearing jeans, though she doesn't own many pairs. Calista owns several kimonos, traditional outfits China, and a tourist-y toga from Greece, that she likes to wear if she feels she's losing track of who she is.
She doesn't really wear makeup, except for the occasional amount of eye liner. If she does where makeup, it looks more natural, than anything else. She leans more towards tans or light pinks, than blues or anything too stand offish, and if she wears blush, she tries to keep it close to the color of her natural flush.[/size]

Nicos Portokalos and Kiki Miyamoto both came from very traditional families. He was Greek, and she was Japanese and Chinese. They fell in love, though, needless to say, him with his black hair and piercing green eyes, a professor of Greek mythology at the university in his thirties, and her with dark hair and soft brown eyes, a graduate student in her twenties studying business.
With their love came Calista, but not marriage, for they were both more contemporary than their families. Everyone in their families was judgmental about the situation, except for Nicos' sister Aphrodite. She was young, not even in high school when Calista came around, but loved her none the less.
As Calista grew up, they had a hard life, what with her teaching classes constantly, and her mother going to her business classes, and her job at a local grocery store, struggling with paying her student loans. But they could always rely on Aphrodite to baby sit, and she didn't mind at all. She was able to focus more with Calista around, and got better grades than she ever had.
Calista's first language was English, but Nicos and Aphrodite taught her Greek, and Kiki's parents, Shinji her Japanese grandfather and Kai-lan her Chinese grandmother, when they visited from Asia, taught her Chinese and Japanese. She was soon a multilingual toddler, and everybody fell in love with her soft ringlets and warm brown eyes, surprisingly containing the piercing quality her father's had.
Nicos as well as teaching his classes owned the Portokalos restaurant, where Aphrodite worked when she wasn't going to school or baby sitting Calista. They taught her to love food, and she was very Greek in that sense, despite her obvious Asian looks. Aphrodite would say, "You are Greek, Cali girl, never forget that." Cali girl was her nickname for Calista, though her and Nicos were the only people who used it. Even as a toddler, Calista loved her father and aunt more than anything else, for her mother wasn't around often, and Shinji and Kai-lan still weren't approving of the nonexistent marriage between Nicos and Kiki.
But then, one day, Nicos didn't come back from his classes. It turned out that on his way home, a car had ran a red light, as he was crossing the street, for he didn't own a car, and he walked everywhere.
Hestia and Perseus, Calista's Greek grandparents, were the first to know, but didn't tell anyone, not even Aphrodite, for they considered her a traitor. Kiki had been working a late shift at the grocery store, so when that state trooper came to the house, Aphrodite was the one who answered, Calista holding on to her leg.
Their hearts were broken, though Kiki seemed the least affected. She claimed that she was being strong for Calista, who "didn't know what death was," but she didn't show any emotion whatsoever, and had a new boyfriend within the next week. Calista knew, though. She knew that her father was gone, that he was being replaced, and she knew that she'd never get to see him again.
Her life became easier, surprisingly, after Nicos' death. Kiki's new boyfriend was a CEO of a major corporation. He was "Mitchell Pierce," king of the business world, and too nice to Calista. He treated her like his own daughter, and supported her and Kiki, even paying off her student loans. And Calista didn't like it at all.
Aphrodite didn't like it either, and spent more time with Calista than ever, hanging out with her at the restaurant, rather than Calista's new home, for Kiki had moved in with Mitchell. "Remember," Aphrodite would say, "You are still my Cali girl, no matter what."
Kiki and Mitchell became even more serious, and after a few years, they were married, to the delight of Shinji and Kai-lan, but to the dismay of Calista and Aphrodite.
When Calista turned nine, she was no longer an only child. Hiro Pierce was born, and although she loved him, she didn't feel like he was her brother, and she didn't feel like Kiki was her mother anymore. It was then that Aphrodite had Calista move in with her, for she was now twenty one, and fully owned the successful restaurant. Kiki didn't care, for she now had her own, "perfect" family, but to Calista, Aphrodite was her perfect family.
Calista lived with Aphrodite for three blissful years, free of Mitchell, and free of Kiki. The restaurant became her haven, but on her twelfth birthday, she shifted.
She had been watching Aphrodite cook some gyros, their dinner, and they were alone in the restaurant kitchen, for the restaurant had already closed, and then she felt like she had a migraine.
But the migraine was only the beginning of the shift. It turned out to be her head changing shape, becoming more bulbous, turning orange. Her eyes grew, and she felt like her skin was burning, for she was out of water. Her arms felt like jello, and her legs, too, as they were turning into an octopus' arms. She grew four more, and she thought, What's happening to me? as she felt her spine disappear, her body shrinking. She had tried to cry out, but couldn't find her mouth, disoriented, and felt a beak-like thing in it's place, ready to rip and tear. Calista hated the feeling like she needed to kill, but it was too late. Calista had shifted, and there was nothing she could do, not without water, at least.
Aphrodite had turned around, confused, wondering where Calista was, but then she looked down. "Όχι Οχι εσύ, εγώ," she said in Greek. "No. Not you, too."
She immediately rushed into action, plugging the sink, and filling it up with water, and adding salt. Once it was full, she picked up her niece, not disgusted in the slightest, and put her in the sink, needing to get her hydrated.
Calista immediately felt better, and she still thanks to this day her aunt's quick reflexes. Aphrodite managed to calm Calista down, and then she shifted back, still confused.
Aphrodite explained, much to Calista's surprise, as she told her that she was a shifter as well, a peacock, and Nicos, too, a bull. Calista had trouble accepting it though, found it impossible to believe that her aunt, with her wavy dark hair and kind green eyes, could shift into a peacock. And that her father had the same ability, as well.
Aphrodite told her of Shifter Academy, but added, "You only have to go when you're ready, Cali girl." And Calista wasn't ready.
She tried to control her shifting, but to no avail. It got harder and harder, but she managed to do it only at home, and like the first time, Aphrodite would put her into some salt water. Calista lived like that for four years, and then she was finally fed up with it.
"I'm ready," she said to Aphrodite. If Aphrodite was startled, she didn't show it, but instead booked preparations for Calista to leave.
"I hope you love it, Cali girl. As much as I loved it, and as much as Σ 'αγαπώ." "I love you."

Calista sighed, breathing in the beach air. Well, more so the snack shack her towel was by, but at least she was at the beach. Surrounded by sand, water, and a big blue sky, plus the occasional seagulls.
She hadn't gone swimming yet, so she ran her fingers through her hair, curly, because she hadn't straightened it, but entirely dry. Unfortunately, the water was taken up by some vacationing family of about eighteen people, otherwise her hair would be sopping wet.
She looked down at her swimsuit, her shorts on over the bottom, and her stomach growled. Loudly.
Calista looked around, wondering if anybody had heard it.
She decided to buy something from the snack shack, but only because she was hungry...and her mood ring said she was annoyed, and Calista was always annoyed when she was hungry.
She stood up, her feet sinking in the sand, and left her towel, now slightly disheveled, and walked the ten feet over to the stand.
Calista looked over the menu, ignoring the employee, and everyone else around her.
Hm, what am I hungry for? Ooh, they have a Greek salad! she thought, remembering her dad.
She was a little surprised a snack shack had Greek salad, but she ordered it anyway.
"Coming right up!" the employee replied, a little too eagerly for her, as he turned around, grabbing what seemed like random ingredients.
She tapped her foot, impatient, and took off her sunglasses, fingering them, instead.
The employee turned around five minutes later, with a Styrofoam to-go container, saying, "Here it is, miss. That will be four dollars."
She opened the container, placing her money on the counter.
He reached for it, but she exclaimed, "Wait!" causing him to stop his arm in mid-reach.
"This," Calista said, "Is definitely not a Greek salad. First of all, this is ranch dressing, and second, there aren't even olives. Need I continue?"
The employee fidgeted, and stammered, "Th-that's our signature Greek salad, m-miss."
Calista snorted, and put her sunglasses back on, replying, "I may not look like it, mister, but I'm part Greek, and I'm not paying for that."
She shoved the box further away from her, and closer to him, taking her money with her.
And then she walked away, disgusted with that horrible excuse for a Greek salad.
Calista grabbed her towel, shoving the bills in her shorts' pocket, and moved closer towards the shore.
Ha, Greek salad my butt.
