...basic character information
Birth Name: Macey Emerald Smith
Nickname
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Grade: 12th
Birth date: January 1st, 1993
Program: Bachelor of Engineering
Major: Aquatic Engineering
Major Explanation: Macey loves science. Engineering is like the perfect match between that and math. As a sea turtle, she knows how much the ocean is being effected by pollution and boats and more, and she wants to fix that for her fellow water-dwellers. She wants there to be a day in the future where they don't have to worry about getting caught in a net, or manatees getting hurt by motor boats.
Animal Identity: Hawksbill sea turtle
...personality
Likes:
- The ocean/sea -- obvious for a sea turtle, right?
- "The Little Mermaid" -- awesome movie and musical! Except for the lack of sea turtles in them...
- "Finding Nemo" -- it is the best movie ever, except they don't sing (she has a thing for musicals). But...it does have sea turtles! ;D Plus, it's a musical at the Disney parks!
- The concept of "being green" -- even if she doesn't like the term, it's always good when people are helping the environment!
- Baby sea turtles -- they're so adorable!
- The Earth's magnetic field -- it helps sea turtles navigate, plus helps humans get around with their compasses.
- Magnets -- a fetish.
- Science -- it's so interesting. It's always been just a fact of life, and people are always trying to explain it. Biology: awesome. Physics: awesome. Chemistry: awesome. Nautical sciences: the best! It's all been around since the beginning of time, but the interpretation is the only thing that's changed. It's so dependable, too.
- Sailing -- very very fun! Not to mention, safer for the environment than motor boats.
- Beaches -- she loves beach combing. She never knows what she'll find: an amazing shell or just a good time!
- Stuffed animals -- they're so fluffy and comforting, especially after a horrible day. She has a sea turtle one that she absolutely adores.
- Math -- most people think it's boring, but she loves it. It's like science in the fact that it's so dependable and constant. Plus, it helps figure out so many problems.
- The color green -- it's her favorite: the color of most turtles and also part of the mix of the perfect ocean color.
- Coral reefs -- she thinks they're absolutely perfect, and hawksbill sea turtles mainly reside in them.
- Going outside -- it makes her feel better, not like being in water, of course, but enough to calm her down and she loves the feeling of being closer to nature.
- Sponges -- a fetish.
- "Spongebob Squarepants" -- sponge!!!!!
- The moon -- it's always there, and it was a comfort for her as a kid.
Dislikes:
- Tortoiseshell -- who cares if it looks cool? It comes from hawksbill turtles!
- Littering -- the ocean is her home, and it's destroying it!
- The term "being green" -- you're not a leprechaun, and you're not covered in green marker. You're being ECO-FRIENDLY.
- "The Little Mermaid" TV show -- don't mess with the classic.
- Seagulls -- annoying.
- Ignorance is definitely not bliss.
- Failing -- not only does it suck, but it also makes you feel bad.
- The color red -- it's an angry color. It puts her in a bad mood, too. Plus, it's the color of blood (unless you're a crab), which isn't usually a good sign.
- Rainy days -- not very fun to go outside in.
- Resorts on beaches -- tourist traps! Plus, who wants to go to the beach while feeling like you've got a giant building for a stalker behind you?
Fears:
- Fishing gear and nets -- they're pretty easy to get caught in, and then she'd DIE.
- Sharks -- always hungry, very dangerous. YIKES for both humans and turtles.
- Heights -- chance of falling, and not into water.
- Asia -- she thinks that if she shifts there, she'd be killed. They used a lot of tortoiseshell in Japan and China...plus, she learned that in some country over there, hawksbill sea turtle is a delicacy!
Strengths:
- Smart -- being smart is always good. It not only gives you advantages, but it also makes you feel better.
- Math and science -- see above. Plus, those subjects are everywhere.
- Stamina -- she's a trooper. She can face just about anything and not get tired. Swimming laps in an Olympic size swimming pool for four hours? Not a problem.
- Swimming, diving, sailing, surfing, basically anything that has to do with water.
- Strong of her convictions -- she'll never back down. She's hard-core (-shell and knows what's good and what's bad.
- Kind -- she's able to understand problems and give advice whenever.
Weaknesses:
- Vanity -- she focuses on herself more than others sometimes, and that can get her the short end of the stick.
- Too many ideas -- she has trouble deciding between her plans, and by the time she finally chooses one, it's too late to put it into affect.
- Temper -- she's usually pretty calm, but if something gets her mad, it's not pretty. But on the bright side, she calms down pretty fast!
- Limp -- she limps a little on her left leg, slowing her speed on land.
- Bossy
- Perfectionist
Overall:
"We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho," is the opposite of Macey, even though she does find pirates interesting. She's kind of a goody two shoes, but mostly she's a nerd and proud of it. She loves to learn, especially about science or math. She's conscience about what people think of her, even though she wishes she wasn't. She can't stand not knowing, because that means she's vulnerable to the unknown. Her head is chocked full of so many ideas, so many plans, so many dreams she wants to put into effect. She always feels like there's not enough time, unless she's in the water. It is there that she is most comfortable and can let her troubles go, at least for a little while. Letting go is one thing Macey has trouble with. She's not a "forgive and forget" type of girl. She can hardly let anything go and it will just eat at her until her temper explodes. She's easily calmed down though. The easiest way to make her see sense is to splash her with water, or if available, throw her into a pool or a body of clean water. She hates being wrong, and that kind of goes with that not knowing thing. It makes her feel vulnerable, and she hates being vulnerable. She's not very confident, and she's more content to stay in her shell...unless her interest is piqued, of course. She loves anything involving water, science, and math. She loves Disney movies, "The Little Mermaid" and "Finding Nemo" especially! She likes mythology, especially stuff about Poseidon, Neptune, and mermaids, except that there aren't enough facts; she's a fact kind of girl and has a hard time accepting anything that's not backed up by truth. Macey is great at giving advice and can tell if somebody is upset, or wants to talk and she's good at understanding problems. She's actually kind of vain, and even though she hates people commenting on how she looks, she does ask for opinions on how she looks. She's especially conscience about her hair, and as her hawksbill sea turtle, she very conscience about her shell. She absolutely can't stand seagulls because she thinks they're annoying and selfish and pigs of birds. She loves musicals, even though she isn't very good at singing. She really wants to go to Australia someday and see the Great Barrier Reef...and the EAC (mentioned in the best movie ever!). She has a sponge fetish and bonds very easily. She's very loyal and protective. Macey can be bossy though, if something isn't going to her specifications. She's also a perfectionist.
...appearance

Celebrity Play By: Hilary Duff
Appearance:
Macey's eyes are the color of her turtle's shell. They are hazel, with flecks of yellow, amber, and dark and light browns. Her eyes seem to change color: they are dark brown when she is mad, and more amber when she's calm. Her shell is the same way in the fact that it looks different depending on the lighting. If Macey is bored, her eyes are the color of wet sand after high tide, which means she's also thinking about the ocean or wants to go there. Most people don't pay attention to her eyes that much, but they really reveal a lot of her thoughts.
As a turtle, Macey is 33 inches long (2 feet and nine inches), which is about the middle length range for her species (30 - 36 inches). Her shift weighs around 150 lbs, the weight she is as a human. Macey is 66 inches tall (5 feet and 6 inches) as a human, twice as tall/long as her shift.
She's a natural blonde, although her roots would make you think otherwise. They are a light brown, one of the colors in her shell, and are only semi-noticeable. The blonde is a mix between white blonde and dirty blonde, leaning more towards the white blonde. It's naturally wavy and usually wet from swimming, or taking a shower to get chlorine out of her hair. She will occasionally wear her hair in a ponytail, though never to go swimming or to work out. She only wears her hair like that if she wants to look professional, and will pull it back with blue, navy, or black ribbon.
Her eyebrows are more of a dirty blonde than the rest of her hair.
Macey's ears are pierced, and if she's not wearing earrings, she usually wears her sea turtle earrings, or some of her many seashell earrings. If she wears other jewelry, it's usually a bracelet, though she rarely wears necklaces. Almost all of her jewelry is somehow related to the ocean.
Macey doesn't like to wear socks, because, not only are they uncomfortable, she thinks they make her size 9 feet look bigger. If she does have to wear them, she prefers wearing sandals, but if she wears shoes with socks, she wears her Spongebob socks.
She doesn't have any tattoos, though she wants one of a circle of sea turtles around her belly button.
Macey is almost always wearing eye makeup. She usually does a smokey eye look, or wears varying shades of purple if she wants to stand out, tans and creams if she's tired.
Her face isn't very round, it's more of an oval shape. Her nose goes down the slightest bit at the tip, a connection to her turtle's beak like mouth. Her lips are a pale pink, and she usually wears lip-gloss, or sometimes lipstick.
Her skin is pretty pale, and about the color of the underside of her turtle.
She usually is dressed more professional than casual, but doesn't wear suits everyday. Her outfits can be seen as pulled together more than anything else, and she always has a bag of some kind with her.[/size]

Macey had a normal life until she was 4 years old. Up until then Macey would go to her swim lessons (something that came extremely natural to her), go to preschool, look forward to kindergarten, go to the beach, play with her neighborhood friends and sisters, you know, normal four year old stuff. But everything changed on her parent's way home from the hospital. They were coming home to show her, and her sisters, their new baby brother, James Tyler. Thanks to an unresponsible kid trying to get an adrenaline rush, the parents and new baby brother never made it home.
The state trooper showed up at Macey's house and told the babysitter. Melany, Mollie, and Macey didn't understand what their babysitter told them. It didn't sink in until the funeral.
Only a few close family friends came. Everyone else in their family was already dead, and their parents didn't have too many friends; it was a small funeral.
The three girls were sent off to an orphanage; for the first year they all stayed together, but after a while they were seperated. Melany and Mollie were sent to one foster home and Macey was sent to another.
In the orphanage, Macey had tried to keep her family together, but it didn't work very well. The orphanage didn't try to keep them together after that first year, plus, why would they? The girls didn't have any living family left, no one to care for them. Macey had assumed the role of mother for her sisters, but then came they day they were sent away.
The foster home Macey was sent to was the home of Annabeth Wendy Potter and Spencer Jedidiah Potter*. It was their first time as foster parents, and they immediately fell in love with Macey. The Potters weren't able to have kids, and Macey was like a dream come true. They soon adopted her, and Macey fell into place in their lives.
She remembered her sisters as she grew up, but only vaguely. She made herself write something down about them everyday, forcing herself to never forget. But it got harder and harder everyday to remember.
Spencer was like the dad she didn't have anymore. She became a daddy's girl, except he wasn't her real dad. Macey managed to remember her real father through a sea turtle stuffed animal with "To Macey. Love Daddy," sewn into its stomach. She still has the stuffed animal and cherishes it and the memory. Spencer spoiled her constantly, though, taking her to aquariums, SeaWorld, water parks, anything involving water, because he was one of the few people who saw her love of the water. And when he saw her interest in science, he helped her along with that, too.
Spencer was a math teacher, and a shifter, a hummingbird. He didn't know that Macey shared the same gift as he, and she didn't even know what a shifter was.
On her thirteenth birthday, the Potters bought Macey a salt water swimming pool, and had it installed out in their backyard, for it was a sunny New Year's Day in California.
Macey loved it, causing the Potters to smile. Annabeth went inside to get the card, and while she was gone, Macey went to get in the pool.
And as soon as she was in the water, she shifted. She gasped, taking a deep breath, and went under. She felt her arms and legs turn into flippers, and it was nothing like wearing scuba diving flippers, at all. Her head changed shape, and the most painful part of the change for Macey was the shell.
The dangerous part came when the shift was over. Spencer automatically recognized Macey's animal instincts taking over, and using his hummingbird speed, ran and threw some sponges into the pool, hoping Macey would attack those and not injure herself.
His plan worked, and when Annabeth came out, he covered for Macey, saying that she had gone to the bathroom. Annabeth went inside to wait, clueless about the shifting that had taken place, and Spencer had exhaled a sigh of relief.
Macey shifted back, stunned, and Spencer gave her clothes and a few towels. He explained to her what had happened, and her initial response was, "Will this happen to my sisters?"
He was surprised, and he realized that he didn't know Macey very well at all. He replied that he didn't know, but Macey let it go.
Spencer didn't tell her about the Academy, for he hoped that Macey could learn to control her shifting without it, and he wanted her to stay.
Macey had trouble controlling her shifting, but managed to shift only in the ocean that she'd always loved and always would.
Five years after her first shift, Spencer realized he was wrong to hope. He knew that he needed to send her away. And so he did. He told her about the Academy, and after she had packed her stuff, he sent her away on the boat he knew she would love.

Macey had just finished putting on her lip gloss.
There! Now I'm all ready to go, she thought.
Macey was going beach combing, and she was anxious. She felt like she hadn't gone in a while, and had a fear that it wouldn't be like she remembered.
She rode her bike down to the beach, putting her bag in the basket.
After about fifteen minutes of riding, she finally made it. She put her bike in the rack, taking her bag with her. If it was a good day, she would fill her bag to the brim with sea shells.
Macey took her first steps on the beach, and was breathing in the ocean air.
It was as perfect as it had always been. She still loved the feeling of sand underneath her shoes, the way the waves crashed upon the shore, the slight sea breeze that blew her hair across her face.
She sat down, not quite ready to look for shells yet. She was sitting simply because she had missed the beach and felt like she needed to get reacquainted with it.
A seagull landed next to her and she scowled.
"Stupid bird," she said before shooing it off. They were so annoying.
Macey looked down, and saw that one of the buttons on her shirt was undone. She fixed it, feeling better now that everything was in it's place.
She stood up, brushing the sand off the back of her skirt.
She started walking, looking down for shells. She walked for about five minutes, not finding any perfect shells yet, then stopped abruptly.
Right in her path was a huge flock of probably a hundred seagulls.
"What the heck?!" she exclaimed. "Shoo, you stupid birds, shoo!"
She ran towards them, causing them to scatter, but they came back.
"Ugh!" she yelled. "Fine, you win!"
She continued walking, mad, and tried to ignore the seagulls. Macey saw a perfect shell right next to a seagull and she considered leaving it be, but at the last minute, she grabbed the shell and ran away from the flock.
She was out of breath now, so to calm down, she took off her shoes and stuck her feet in the water.
Aaaah, she thought. Nothing better than going to the beach.
Macey looked down at her feet, and saw at least ten perfect shells. She smiled and thought, Yeah. This is going to be a good day.
