I know that due to a) the fact that it's summer and b) the fact that there's a school dance being planned (and one event at a time of course), this should probably not happen just YET.
Also, we have three theater majors at this school *wince* though I do know that there HAVE to be characters of other majors who are equally interested in theater. For example, Mischa is a sociology major, but she grew up in theater and is in drama club. Also, there are a TON of dance majors and vocal music majors, so some of them could get involved as well.
I've been thinking of possible musicals that could be done too. Considering our limited cast, we could probably do Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, or RENT. I'd guess at one of the first two, since the third is a bit out there and although the movie is PG-13, watching it is certainly different from acting in it.
If there are too many characters trying out for the male lead, I can offer Max up to be the director (since there isn't currently a drama teacher).
I think a school musical would be a good way to get plots involved and bring the school together. There is lots of potential for conflict, like as who gets what role, and potential for students to meet new people. We probably wouldn't RP the actual play, but have a thread for auditions where a student acts out any monologue and sings a song. Then once the parts are given, there could be threads for rehearsals and such. The art majors could help with the set, the fashion majors could help with the clothing, instrumental music majors could do background music, anyone could do lights and tech work... there's lots of potential for various people to get involved here.
Soo.... yeah. ;D

I like this idea! (even though technically Selah's a photography major, she'd love to try out for something)

You mention a musical and wonder HOW long it's take for Stefan to find his way in?
It would be amazing and it would create a lot of tension, Stefan wouldn't be part of that tension, and the only way I could see drama involving him were if he were to get a good part and someone was really jealous of him, because as Max knows, he's like.. every bit of joy and love was molded into one human being. XD
But it would create so many amazing plots!

Well, I'm sure their are many people who's characters could be supporting roles.
Like, Felix is a great dancer and possible actor, but he can't sing. ^^ So anyone with any sort of skills would be useful, except there might not be much to do with them IC, except to have them be in the musical.
And this brings up the fact that there should be a Thespian/Theater club, so there's one more plot connection for everyone, and there could be IC planning or what (is any) musical/play we could do next.

Considering the fact that we only have 3 theater majors, most of the cast is probably going to be non-theater majors... so to Selah, Felix, and Rin, you guys would have a good chance of getting parts ^^
Depending on which play we do, there could be a number of singing without dancing parts or dancing without singing parts... like I don't think Phantom of the Opera requires much dancing, whereas RENT would...
I'm sure Stefan could get a big role! He's 1) good 2) the only male theater major other than Max and 3) an upperclassmen, and I'd imagine good upperclassmen theater majors would get the major roles... I imagine theater majors would have first priority in general actually...
Felix is right that there might not be much to be done for some people other than be in the musical. Like, I imagine all the actors would have to try out, so that would be roleplayed. Plus people could roleplay breaks in rehearsals, time right before or after rehearsals, and then the events right before and right after opening night. But it's not like we'd be roleplaying the play itself.
Also, love the idea of a Thespian/Theater club! I think the extracurriculars on this site should be more organized in general actually... like picking from a list which ones you do instead of making them up... that way there could be lists of who's in what club and you can meet other people like that and even hold meetings, depending on what club it is.

well depending on what musical we choose to do Like Wicked can have a big or small chorus as can rent. Wicked has a good dancing base for almost all he characters except Nessa Rose seeing she is in a wheel chair for half the musical. Plus I like the Idea of doing Wicked on this site because it deals with animals and someone has to dress as a goat... lol I Really like this idea because it evolves a lot of people. The auditions would be of course open to all students. But we would need stage crew and set design and those people who don't do anything and you just want to kill cause they don't do anything...

aight guys, i'mma go ahead and go over a few things with you guys. i like being organized, so they'll have numbers and junk (:
1. i know that this is an uber uber awesome idea, but in all likelihood, wouldn't be able to be carried out until late september at the earliest. we've got another event planned after summer madness that we're actually working on and need to get finished and wrapped up.
2. The more organized we make our clubs, the more and more space we're going to have to create, which is definitely a good thing but i know a few people get swamped by having tons and tons of boards, you know?
EDIT: 2.5 okay, that sounded awkward. YES. we are considering adding the idea of a list of clubs and extracurriculars, considering that that's part of the event we're planning to have summer madness. we'll keep you updated!
3. while saying that auditions would be a good time to role play and everything, you'd have to have an actual director. a student director for a huge musical number is pretty unrealistic, given the size of Shifter Academy.
4. also regarding auditions, there's the question of guaranteeing the top spots to the acting majors. there could, very well, be a very excellent actor who majors in philosophy but has to have a low role just because he or she doesn't major in acting, itself. some of the best actors come from backgrounds where they've never had experience before.
5. auditions would also be kind of difficult without some sort of adult director. i'm actually in the process of creating a theater teacher, and it should only take another week or two so that everyone can start getting familiar with him and kissing his butt in preparation.
6. i'll have to talk it over with the staff some more, but a musical is a pretty good idea, although it would probably just work the same as the summer madness deal. not with the structured posting and all that, but with just having a big subboard to go in. because there are, in fact, students who aren't theatrically inclined and/or do not want to work backstage or with the set. and making it mandatory would create a challenge for role players, but make a show not so great by having unwilling stagehands lifting actors into the air or something.
7. along with number 4, i don't think we should restrict fashion majors to JUST costumes, you know? if people are interested in working in fashion and learning about it, they should probably be allowed to sign up to work in that section of the theatre and then learn from the fashion majors who DO, in fact, want to do costumes. that way people aren't just stuck with whatever they're majoring in.
8. we can probably make the selection later, much much closer to the actual production and once everything has been planned out and approved.
9. overall, it's a great great idea and i love that you suggested it (:

1) Figured it wouldn't be carried out till around then. Summer Madness is going on now, plus the idea for a school dance was brought up first. Also, school plays usually don't show up until at least two or three months into the year. 2(.5)) Mmkay, sweet 3/5) Hmm, didn't think of that. At my high school there have been student-directed plays, but those were usually one-acts, come to think of it, or small plays rather than entire musicals. And a theater teacher would be very handy, thank you. 4) Didn't intend on THAT much of a priority. Just that if two actors are trying for the same spot and they're equally as good, the theater major would get priority because, I assume being in a play would give them some sort of credit toward their major and be a good thing to put on their resume for after they graduate. 6) Makes sense. 7) Again, didn't intend on any restrictions as far as who does what. I only used majors as an example of how people who aren't normally interested in acting can get involved, if they so choose. 8/9) Yay! Thanks

Ohh, Heidi would -so- be in. Music is the foundation of her life, so she'd be more than happy to get with any other instrumentalists for the background music and special sound effects and whatnot. She probably wouldn't sing though, since she's not so comfortable doing that in public just yet but, count her in. (:
