- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Skyler walked down the halls. She knew where she was going today and what she would probably do for the rest of the day. Skyler was going to go to the concert hall. If anywhere this would be the place where they would have a piano for her to play. Playing the piano made her forget about everything she was thinking about if only for a few minutes she need to forget. That morning she was thinking about her life and how it was leading her. So far it wasn’t great; she had no plans for what she was going to do after high school. Skyler was hoping on going back to Germany, unless of course something happens like she finds her true love here. But Skyler didn’t think that was going to happen.
Skyler hated her life, but of course she went through it like she didn’t. She is sixteen years old and is hopelessly lost in her life. Of course this is no surprise when there was no one to guide you through it. Skyler was raised in an orphanage where no one cared about her. But there was one upside to all this and that was all the knowledge she had. Of course she kept herself inside a box with just her. Yes Skyler was thinking about her life even now when she is walking down the hallways. Skyler was caring her backpack with all the stuff she needed in it, her cell phone, sketch book, and a book to read just in case she got bored of playing the piano; oh and you can’t forget about her reading glasses. Skyler couldn’t read a thing without her glasses.
Skyler made her way to the concert hall at last. Skyler opened the doors and walked in. Skyler looked around there were rows and rows of chairs; how many were there she did not know. Skyler placed her hands on one of the chairs closer to her. Skyler then walked down the walk way between the rows on chairs. While she walked she glided her hand on the chairs. When she got to the first row she put her hand down and looked up at the stage. Skyler was right there are a Piano here and some microphones there was also one on the piano. Skyler walked up on the stage then walked to the piano. Skyler placed her bag near one of the pianos legs. Skyler sat down on the seat in front of the piano. Skyler placed her fingers on the keys and run them across all the keys. Skyler started playing a few random notes that went together pretty well. At of all the time she played the piano and just played random note she never thought about making a song. Skyler wasn’t interested in doing that though at least not for a career. x What do you do when you you’re bored? Sit around trying to think of something to do? Do some random activity in the hope it will entertain you? If you’re Theodore Stevenson, then that isn’t good enough. The young boy had taken to wandering the corridors, hoping something would turn up. He hadn’t been here that long and was still getting to know the place. Wandering around seemed like a good way to figure out where things were and of killing time. Theo liked wandering around sometimes. It gave him time to be alone and think. Although he usually preferred being around other people, time alone was important for anyone. Theo used this time for thinking, usually about nothing in particular. Sometimes he would think about something important, most of the time he would just think about the first random thing that came into his head. This would often lead him onto a strange trail of thought and he has many a time found himself wondering how he had arrived at his current thought when he had started on something completely different. He would then have to trace his though back step by step, usually finding a perfectly logical link between all of the topics. It was only when they were brought together that they stopped making sense.
Today he was thinking about whatever came to mind, humming or singing to himself as he went. Nothing in particular, just bits of songs or tunes that came to mind. He was wondering what it would be like to fly. Not in an aeroplane, or even a glider or anything like that. To be a bird and fly using your own power. It must feel strange to be pushing against the air and using it to move you, riding on air currents and gliding. He just couldn’t imagine how it would feel. Would probably feel good though. This led him on to thinking about shifting. What would it feel like to become a bird? He though back to the first time he had change. It had hurt. He had felt his entire body unwillingly changing shape. He was still amazed at how it had happened. It was the strangest feeling imaginable, his skeleton changing shape and his muscles re-organising themselves. And yet he had learned to control it quickly, and it had stopped hurting. He had been really nervous when he had first started shifting of his own free will. He was scared of having to go through the pain again and terrified of hurting someone else. But he hadn’t been able to restrain his curiosity, and had shifted. It did hurt, but not as much as the first time. What’s more he could control himself completely.
Theo was brought back to the present by a sound. It was a coming from a door a little way away. Looking around, Theo wondered how long he had been wandering around. He had a rough idea of where he was but wasn’t quite sure how he had gotten there. He moved towards the door, listening to the sound, someone was playing the piano. It seemed more like random notes than an actual tune or song, but it still fit together quite nicely. Theo opened the door quietly and peeked inside. There was a girl sat at the piano. She looked to be a little older than him and engrossed in what she was doing. The music was nice, and Theo felt like listening a little more. He felt weird standing at the door though, so he quietly entered the room, closing the door behind him, and sat at one of the chairs near the back. She hadn’t noticed him enter. He wondered if he should let her know he was here, but decided against it. He didn’t want to interrupt her.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - the countdown begins to destroy ourselves WHO'S GOING TO FIGHT FOR WHAT'S RIGHT? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Skyler thought about everything. Why she came to this school? Because she had no other choice. Why she made her major art and design? Because she feels like art was the only thing she was good at. Why did she shut everyone out? Because she didn't want to get hurt from anyone. Why did she have to be a shifter? This she didn't know the answer to and probably never find one. Why did she think this school was going to change her? There was something about this school that felt different to her then the other schools she went to. Why did she feel like she didn't want to change? Because who she is now is the only way she knew how to be and didn't want it any other way. To her all of these questions were good ones. Skyler thinks any question related to life was a good question or should she say related to someone's life.
There was only one reason why she thought this way about questions. That is because she thinks it's always good to question your life and most of the time those questions you couldn't answer. For two reasons you either didn't have an answer or didn't want to. Skyler thought that this was the best thing for her to do; because doing this would lead her from the doing something she didn't want to do. Of course sometimes it was hard for her to do. Of course she needed to answer the questions she asked herself all the time. Some questions she asked over and over and could always answer yet she felt like she needed to ask herself. As she thought about this she played the piano, still just random notes. Skyler was too busy with her own thoughts to hear anyone come in.
Skyler stopped and looked up at the ceiling. She put her hands on her face and robbed her eyes. Why did her life have to be this way; this was a question she didn't know the answer to but she wished she did. Skyler didn't know who to go about her life. But yet she did but only because she took it minute by minute. But soon she would have to think past that way past that. She would have to think of the years to come and what it would look like. Skyler hoped by then she wouldn't be alone and wouldn't have to face the world by herself. Of course she didn't think that was going to happen and she thought she would always be alone. But maybe this was one of the things she thought would change her life at this school. That maybe just maybe she wouldn't always be alone. Of course the way she shut people out she didn't think this was going to change.
Skyler looked back at the piano and placed her hand on her lap. She bit her lower lip in concentration. Skyler was trying to think of a song that she could play that would go with her mood at the moment. Skyler felt like there was a part of her that wanted to be shown and not just her shift. This made her think of one song from a Disney movie called Mulan. Yes she watched Disney movies mostly the classic movie like Mulan. Some of the songs in the movies were pretty good. Her favorite is Mulan; because she can relate to it about Mulan having a part of her locked up in side and it just wanting to get out and how she wanted someone to love her for who she is and not what other people want her to be. Of course she wasn't the person to fake herself; she just didn't show all of herself.
Skyler thought through all the songs she remembered from the movie. There was one song that stuck out at her from the first time she watched the movie. That song was reflection; she remembered how to play it and the words to the song so Skyler could play it. Skyler closed her eyes and went through the song both words and keys. Skyler started to play the song on the piano. She didn't sing it; she wasn't going to; at least not this time. She wanted to make sure she had it down on the piano first before she sang it. It's been as while since she last played reflection on the piano. Her fingers gliding along the keys playing the song.

x The girl didn’t seem to notice Theo as he sat down. This didn’t really bother him. He didn’t want to disturb her and would feel weird stopping her just to say ‘hi, I’m just gonna sit here and listen for a while, ok?’ He preferred to just sit silently and listen to what she was playing. It didn’t seem to be anything really, just a random little tune. Although he felt a little weird listening in. People acted differently on their own, sometimes their music would reflect their personality or emotions. He would feel embarrassed if he’d been singing alone only to find someone had been listening in. For him it was kind of like exposing a part of who he really was. That’s just not something you do around strangers.
Still, he didn’t introduce himself just yet. He liked just sitting and listening and leaving the girl undisturbed. He wondered what kind of animal she was. He occasionally liked to amuse himself by looking at people and making up stories about them. What they were like, what they had been through, what animal they would turn into if they were a shifter. Looking at the girl sat at the piano he found that she looked a little lonely and confused. This seemed to reflect the music she was playing. It almost looked like she was lost. Not physically, but didn’t know where she was going with her life. It was sometimes quite hard to see what a person was really like when they were playing an instrument, or singing. People can look really different when they get into the music and it’s hard to tell whether their face reflects the music or the music reflects the person. Theo assumed the music was reflecting the person in this case since she seemed to be playing whatever came to mind. He wasn’t sure what animal she would become. His first feeling was a mouse or something similar. It didn’t seem quite right but he couldn’t think of anything else. There were some people whose animal you could just tell by looking at them, even if they weren’t a shifter you could immediately imagine what they would shift into if they were. Non-shifters were the best for making up animals for.
The girl stopped playing. For a moment Theo was worried that she’d spotted him. Drawing his thoughts back to the present he looked in her direction to find her sat rubbing her eyes. He didn’t know whether he should take this opportunity to introduce himself but she seemed to be lost in thought so he decided against it. He realised that the longer he sat there the weirder it would be when he finally did introduce himself. Of course he could always just slip out the same way he’d slipped in. But then the girl might not notice him and it would be weird explaining why he’d been sat there listening then just left.
She started playing again. It was something he recognised, though he couldn’t place it. It might be from a movie or something. She was quite good really. He noticed that she had her eyes closed. She must really know the song, he thought. He knew that musicians sometimes had their eyes closed while they played. Theo didn’t see how they knew what they were doing. He supposed if you’d practiced enough it would come naturally but it still seemed kind of weird to him. He sat and listened as she played, sill not quite able to remember where he’d heard it before. When she came to the end he realised she might take a break before she played again. He had waited long enough without introducing himself. It would soon get too awkward for him, to say he’s been listening for as long as he had without saying anything. He stood up and slowly walked towards the front of the hall, not wanting to startle the girl. He spoke in a small voice that he hoped she would hear but not be shocked by. ”You play really well. I hope you don’t mind. I heard you and wanted to listen.” He smiled a little sheepish smile to accompany his words.

Skyler finished her song, without singing to it. She wasn’t in the mood to sing; which was weird for her because she almost always sings when she’s playing, unless there were no lyrics to the song. Skyler looked around the stage, she had no clue what to do now. She didn’t feel like playing another song. Skyler hated this school more than any other. She has yet to make any friends; at least that’s what she thought. She was forced to come here out of her own will. Skyler wanted more than anything to be back in Germany. Although she doesn’t want to go back to the same orphanage, or any orphanage for that matter. Skyler hated being here but she didn’t have any where else to go. She hated this she just wanted out, out of this school, out of this ability she had. Skyler didn’t even know how she came to have the shifter gene. She knew it had to be in her blood line, but did it come from her father’s or her mother or both.
Skyler listened to the rain that she could hear from the outside. She listened to the steady beat of the rain falling on the building. She closed her eyes picturing what the rain would look like if she went outside. It didn’t sound too heavy, but then again it might be heavy for her to hear it from in concert hall. She opened her eyes and looked around the stage once more. She hated the feeling of not belonging; she felt it all her life, since she can remember which was after she came to the orphanage. Skyler wanted more than anything right know to feel like she belonged somewhere, she thought that maybe this would be that place but so far nothing.
Skyler had conflicted feelings about everything that revolved around this school. The school itself was also something she had conflicted feelings with. How was she supposed to fit into a school like this or any school for that matter? She had closed herself off to the world when her parents died. No one knew of her parent’s death, well besides the cops. Skyler never talked to anyone about that night and everything. Maybe that’s what she needs to do, but how could she talk to anyone when she knows no one wants to listen to her stories. Of course there also was the part where she wasn’t an open book and doesn’t like telling her personal stories to people strangers or friends.
Skyler heard someone coming up the steps on the stage. She looked to in the direction of where it was coming from seeing how there was two stair ways to get onto the stage. ”You play really well. I hope you don’t mind. I heard you and wanted to listen.” Skyler looked at him and blinked a couple times. ‘How long has he been there’ she asked herself. “Does it matter; he said he liked your playing” said the skunk inside her. It took her a couple seconds to realize that she hasn’t replied. “Thank you and nein… Hmm I mean no it’s fine I don’t mind” said Skyler, her thick German accent coming out with every word she spoke. Skyler remember the question she had asked herself before when she heard him. “How long have you been listening?”asked Skyler, she was only curious.
Skyler had no problem with him listening to her music. Although she does have a problem with people looking at her art. She didn’t know why, well she sort of did. Her art means more to her than the music she played. Drawing is something she loved and if you knew her then what she draws is deeper than just what you see. Of course the music she was playing; she just wasn’t has deep has her art. Skyler loved art more than anything; this is why she picked art as her major.

x Theo gave a little shy smile as the girl looked at him. Part of him regretted saying anything, he felt a little embarrassed. When she spoke Theo couldn’t help a little confused expression crossing his face. Her accent was something he hadn’t expected. She sounded German, though Theo would have never thought that by looking at her. It was odd, but then he had never thought himself an expert or even a novice at guessing people’s nationalities. He kind of liked her accent though. He remembered back at home, when he had been growing up in England. Back there everyone had spoken like he had. Here his accent was a bit of an oddity compared to most people.
Theo had always found accents a little odd really. Why had people in one place learned to pronounce things in a different way to people in a different place, especially in places like the US where the people came from somewhere else. Americans came originally from England, or at least a load of them did… so at what point did American English become so different from the regular English. Languages were another strange thing, people in different places around the word coming up with their own names for things. It must have been extremely difficult for people to learn languages when they first met people for another country, seeing as they wouldn’t have any way of understanding each other. And now people could translate almost every language into any other.
Her second question made Theo a little embarrassed again. ”Only for a little while… I’m sorry, I should have said something earlier. But I didn’t want to interrupt. Your music was nice and I wanted to listen. Sorry.” He looked at his feet as he spoke, hoping the girl wouldn’t mind.
Theo felt a little weird standing on the edge of the stage, but he didn’t want to move off or closer to the girl. He just sort of stood there, looking a little awkward. ”Do you want me to leave?” He asked. The girl hadn’t sounded angry or annoyed but he still felt that he had done wrong by listening in on her. He felt he should apologize again or just leave. He had been quite happy listening to her music, if a little uncomfortable for listening without the girl’s knowledge. Now that he’d introduced himself he suddenly felt like he’d done the wrong thing and should have just stayed where he was or left quietly.
