Karter shut off his computer and started to pack it away. He had just got offline from a chat with two people that he had just met today online. One of them was Christopher Swift who was, apparently, his new roommate. That was exciting, though he wasn't sure how much he wanted a roommate. Let alone, the possibility of two. He tried to think of the best roommate possible, and he wasn't sure. To close to his personality and they could clash, to opposite and they could clash, and he hoped that there was NO chance that he was a seal or a shark. He hated both of them like no other. Wow, imagine he was? What kind of luck Karter would have. Had Christopher said what shift he was? He couldn't remember, but no matter, he would find out soon enough.
The second person that he met online was the one who actually initiated the conversation. Her name was Brianna (or Bree as she said he could call her) and she was a panther shift. As soon as he heard that she was a black panther, he immediately thought of Bagheera from the Jungle Book. How funny would it be if their personalities were the same? From what he had seen, there may be a chance of this but who knows. He thought it was really interesting and fun to figure out what people's shifts are. It was really quite entertaining. And the expressions and reactions he gets when he says that he is a killer whale is spectacular. Everyone is amazed and he feels good for a split second. Though really, even if they weren't amazed and made fun of him for being fat or whatever as an animal, he couldn't care less. Could they swim at high speeds, jump out of the water, and do cool tricks? Nope.
Bree and Karter had ended the conversation by agreeing to meet in the cafeteria for lunch. He was very interested in seeing what she looked like and meeting her all together. If would be very interesting for sure. He got off his chair, put on a white shirt with a black vest (really quickly), grabbed his keys, looked in the mirror and fixed his vest up a bit, opened the door, and closing it behind him as he started his trek down. For some reason, he felt nervous. He wasn't sure why as he was just meeting someone that he had recently spoken to. Nonetheless, he was still antsy for some reason. What if she was a total weirdo? Nah she didn't seem that way. As a matter of fact, she seemed totally opposite. He was sure everything would be fine.
He smelled the fast food. The aroma slapping him in the face. He didn't really feel like eating anything too disguisting (as far as greasy and heavy foods went) so he decided that he would have some sushi (which was his absolutely favourite food in the whole entire world. He looked around and found the one he wanted. Tuna and salmon rolls. YUMMMM. He grabbed them, stood in line, and payed. He couldn't wait to sink his teeth into this amazing meal.
He found a table and sat down looking around. He wasn't too sure what to look for when looking for a nice sounding, panther shifting, 15 year old. He assumed that she wasn't here yet and decided to take a seat. He thought it might be rude to start eating without her, but he really couldn't wait anymore. The smell and the sight of the sushi sitting in front of him was unbearable to resist. He took out his chopsticks, took his first piece of sushi (tuna), and dipped it into the soy sauce. He put it in his mouth and was instantly satisfied. Oh man this tasted soooooooo good. He was in heaven. This was exactly what he needed. He took another piece and put it in his mouth, looking around at the same time for this mysterious Brianna character.

oh, she got a way with the boys in the placeTREAT EM' LIKE THEY DON'T STAND A CHANCE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Bree glanced over the AIM chat once more before closing her laptop and slipping it back into it's case. She wiped a drop of sweat from her forehead, not sure if it was due to the meager amount of air circulating through the room, or her own sudden surge of anxiety. Brianna was generally an all around friendly, outgoing gal, so it was a surprise to her as to why she would get nervous over meeting a new face, especially when they had already spoken in prior to the get-together. Even so, thoughts kept swirling in her mind. Would he not like her once they actually met?, Would he end up being a total douchebag? she pondered apprehensively.
She tried shaking it off, concentrating on the good of the experience rather than the awkwardness. For one, she was starving. Bree had been reviewing a new dance routine all morning, leaving her tired, sore, and extremely hungry. She was lucky she hadn't eaten her own leg at this point. So going out to eat might just satisfy the irritability and grumbling noises within in her stomach. Then, of course, there was the opportunity to socialize. Brianna didn't know very many people here at Shifter Academy. There were her roommates, sure, Deimon and Emilia, but they'd barely talked since Bree first arrived. She was hoping to change that, but until then, she figured she might as well get to know everyone else, or as many as she could.
As she changed out of her usual "lazing around in the dorm" attire, Bree thought about Karter, and how they would get on. He had a good sense of humor, which was what she looked for in a friend. He seemed just as easy-going as her, and the more she thought about it, the more she looked forward to actually talking him. Karter also had mentioned his shift was a killer whale, which reminded her of going to see Shamu for the first time at Seaworld with her mother. She'd always been fascinated by the intelligence of the marine mammals, and even though the dolphins were her favorite at the show, the orcas were just as amazing. Bree laughed quietly to herself when she remembered mentioning Shamu in their AIM convo. At first, she thought she had offended Karter by it, but then she saw that he didn't mind, and was actually proud of sharing characteristics with the famous creature. That was a good thing, though, because Brianna possesses a tendency to tease people and end up offending them, even though it was all in good fun and clearly unintentional. Well, clearly unintentional to her at least.
Once Brianna had dressed herself to her liking, she pinned her hair up, grabbed her keys, twirling them around her pointer finger, and headed out of the dorm room. She sauntered down the hallways, nearly getting lost on her way to the cafeteria in the process of trying to find it. She'd have to get used to all the similar looking buildings and buy herself a map if she was ever going to survive here. Unlike birds and migrating species of fish, she had a terrible sense of direction. Luckily, a kind soul was nice enough to point her on to the right pathway.
Brianna made her way to cafeteria, and was greeted by a cool blast of air as she opened the double glass doors. So that's where all the air conditioning went, Bree thought to herself with a grin. It was a little crowded, but that didn't bother her too much. She didn't know who to look for exactly. I mean, what could a whale shifter possibly look like? A million different things, from her experience. Her cat-like eyes darted around the room, scanning each face. A few caught her eye, so she gave them each a second look, however she couldn't be entirely sure of which one was the face behind the mask. With a shrug, she strode over to the food. Her body craved something juicy and thick, like a piece of chicken. Her umber-brown eyes looked carefully over each individual section of food. So many choices! she thought to herself. Then, a familiar smell wafted into her mouth and nostrils. Barbecue. . . Her belly rumbled at the aroma that hung in the air, anxious to taste the sweet flavors. Dancing could certainly work up an appetite.
Brianna immediately took hold of one of the tongs rested beside the dish and maneuvered it to hook onto a piece of juicy, chicken. She plopped it down onto the chipped glass plate with a splat. Though she tried to hurry quickly. The growing, and seemingly endless line behind her obviously had little to no patience whatsoever. As she approached the area to pay, she pulled out a wrinkled dollar bill and payed for the chicken and the rest of her meal.
Bree once again scanned the room hovering around some of the tables in hopes that someone would recognize the puzzled look on her face and point her out to Karter. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -I'M PINNING marc/karterI AM roo/briannaGRAMMY GOES TO "good girls go bad" - cobra starshipWE ARE INthe cafeteriaLOOKING outfitWORD SAYS eight hundred seventy-eightTEMPLATE BY VIOLETTE !? of CAUTION 2.0!GRAPHIC SKILLS TO woweeitskaexI'VE GOTTA SAY sushi = YUM! my muse is pretty sucky right now. sorry it's short. that and i've got a 6-year-old devil child chasing me around the house chucking barbie dolls (some decapitated, some partially decapitated, some missing limbs) at me. so that's obviously a factor.

Chris looked at the computer and realized his session was almost up. Since he happened upon this school during that his flight from London he didn't have anything of his own here. That was part of the reason he was here in the school's library. He had sent off a quick e-mail to his parents and then checked out the chat feature.
As to the other reason, it was in his hands as he left the library. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne. But now he was hungry so he decided to go and find the cafeteria. As he exited the library he took out the map of the school that he got when he enrolled. Since he had an excellent sense of direction it would be easy to find the cafeteria.
For a second he wondered if he should try to find his dorm room and deposit the book. But then his rumbling stomach told him that even if he flew back to the cafeteria from finding his dorm room, it wouldn't be fast enough. With his decision made he sat down, opened his map, and started to plot his course.
After a few seconds of planning and a couple of minutes of walking, Chris finally made his way to the cafeteria. As he moved down the line, Chris kept his eyes out for what looked good to eat at the time. There was fast food, barbecue, ham sandwiches, mystery meat etc. etc. It seemed that the only fish they had today were tuna sandwiches and sushi. There was a really good chance the tuna in the sandwiches was canned, and they also probably had mayo or cheese. And with Chris being lactose intolerant and preferring fresh fish over canned fish, those sandwiches were a bad bet. So Chris decided to be adventurous and try the sushi. Heck he had eaten enough raw fish in his albatross form, though the seaweed was going to be a new sensation. He completed his plate with some crab legs, and clam chowder. He'd check out the dessert table after he finished the main course.
Now Chris was at the drink section. He quickly selected a bottled water, and took a quick drink as he surveyed the large room. To him it seemed as if the room were full it looked like every table had people sitting at it.
And it seemed as if he wasn't the only one who was looking for a spot. There was someone else, a girl, with the same lost face he probably sported. He wondered if someone would invite him over to their table. He hoped so but he was new, so he doubted it. Though he still looked around to try and spot an empty seat, or an invitation for him to join a table.

Sushi was probably the best food in the world. He was so happy that they had it in stock. And his favourite kind as well, what were the odds? Ugh he couldn't get over it. Explosion of awesome flavours in his mouth. He put another piece in and continued to chew as he looked around. He couldn't seem to find...wait...who was that? His eyes caught an attractive girl looking around the cafeteria. Could it be that this was Brianna? He looked at what she had chosen for a meal today and noticed that it was chicken. Did panther's eat chicken? Most definitely! Well, they ate meat so he guessed it was close enough. He decided to be polite and get up out of his seat to go and tell her that it was him and hope that it was actually Bree. He really didn't feel like moving or leaving his sushi, but he forced himself up and started walking towards her.
As he was scurrying around through the maze of chairs and tables of the other students sitting in the cafeteria, he looked up to notice a male standing next to Bree. It also seemed as if he was looking for a place to sit. He hadn't seen this boy at all either, and was wondering if he was the girls boyfriend. Did Bree have a boyfriend? Oh man, he wasn't sure. He could very well be setting himself up for a total embaressing moment with his greeting if these were the wrong people. Shoot they should have made some wort of hand signal or look out code for when they actually meant. That would've been the smart thing to do. Damnit. He hated when these types of thoughts went through his head since he WAS smart and he SHOULD'VE had that smart idea. He kicked himself for not thinking of it, but he had to stop soon or else his greeting would come out too rude (as these emotions would want to escape).
He finally reached his destination and, with a deep breath, spat out, "Hey there, are you Brianna?" He didn't know why he was getting so nervous. If it wasn't them, who cares? He really didn't care at all what other people thought of him. That was just his personality. Though he was nervous now for some reason. Maybe making a bad first impression? Nah that usually happens anyway because he always comes off as intimidating. He hoped that he didn't this time though since he really did want to attempt a good first impression. Here's to hoping.
He turned to the male now and asked the question, "Who are you?" Shoot, that definitely came off a bit rude. All he meant by that was to figure out (by the answer he gave) if these were the right people or total strangers. Hopefully, they wouldn't think that he was a jerk and leave on the spot. That's happened to him before and, though he really didn't care too often, he really doesn't like it when that happens. He looked back at his sushi and really wanted another bite. "Hurry up please." he thought. He really wanted his sushi, but he just stood there waiting for a response. He didn't have all day. It would get cold. Though, he wanted to make sure that this was in fact Bree, and the male was in fact...er...well...friendly for a start.

oh, she got a way with the boys in the placeTREAT EM' LIKE THEY DON'T STAND A CHANCE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Feeling a bit hopeless, Brianna let out a huff. Maybe he just wasn't here yet, Bree tried convincing herself, yet she felt like Karter had stood her up, or perhaps decided he wouldn't like to meet her face to face after all. At this point, Brianna just wished that someone might invite her to sit or talk so that she didn't look like a complete lost, idiot standing in a jungle of animal shifting teenagers cackling, eating, shouting, and, all at the same time, I might add. Besides, Bree was starving and didn't know how long she could go before she ended up mauling the nearest person. And she certainly did not want to find out. The confused boy standing only but a few feet away from her didn't look to appetizing, anyway. At least not in her human form. . .
Brianna was debating whether to ask him to sit. He seemed friendly enough. Who knows? Maybe they'd grow to be friends? However the shy part of her was completely against it, screaming, no! don't do it! You'll look like a frickin' weirdo!
Ugh! Just do it! Bree countered her own thoughts inside her head. It's not like you're proposing or even asking him out! Suck it up and ask him to sit and have lunch! She was perplexed as to why she was so nervous and jittery. Sure, Brianna was shy until you got to know her, but not this shy.
Bree gulped and spun around, about to open her mouth to speak but an approaching figure out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. A guy, no more then a few years older was walking toward them. The white shirt and black vest immediately reminded her of orcas. Could it be Karter? Brianna wondered, but she found it silly making such assumptions. Just because he was wearing black and white didn't mean it was him. She was wearing black and white, too. Bree glanced down at her outfit. Okay, well she wasn't wearing black and white. I admit, that wasn't a good analogy, but I'm sure you all got my point.
"Hey there, are you Brianna?" he asked, and a sea of relief swept and washed over her. Her worried expression disappeared, and taking a deep breath she nodded.
"Yep," Brianna sighed, then gave an amiable smile. "It's me, Bree! And you must be Karter, I'm guessing.
Brianna didn't know really what to think of Karter. Good teeth? Nice hair? He was good-looking, and even though looks are important, beauty is only skin-deep, and she was dying to know what he was like. She might have just found a very valuable friend right here and now. He wasn't exactly what she pictured a whale-shifter to look like, though. Brianna hated to admit it, but she pictured someone a little more. . . chunky? She mentally slapped herself for even thinking that. It was really judgmental of her.
Karter startled her when he asked the boy behind her for his name, in a sort of rude manner. Bree wished he wasn't as impolite as he had just sounded, but she also hadn't realized how close she and the other boy were standing to each other, and hoped they didn't look like a couple for she wouldn't want to throw Karter off. Although, she was wondering the same thing. Who was he? Was he new? In which case, Brianna would like to act as kind as possible. She was sure he must have been feeling the same awkwardness of not knowing anyone.
In an attempt to water-down Karter's intimidating questioning, Brianna gave a cheerful, warm smile. "I was wondering the same thing!" she said with a small laugh as she turned to face him. "I'm Brianna. What's your name?" Her cat-like eyes flickered back and forth between the two. That had seemed to ease the tension.

Chris spotted a man weaving his way trough the chairs. Then he noticed his close proximity to the lost looking girl. Oh no. That's probably her jealous boyfriend and I'm going to get my face beat in. What a wonderful way for one of my first days to go. He probably shifts into a shark, too. That would be just my luck.
But when the guy asked if she was who he thought she was, Chris knew that he wasn't the girl's boy friend and he was less likely to get his face beat in for being at the wrong place at the wrong time after all. Then the girl, Bree, introduced herself and it turned out that they had set up some sort of a meeting, her and...Karter? Did he just here her say Karter?
Chris did go paler for a second, but that was because he was worried about the first impression he was making. Even though Karter was somewhat intimidating. But here he was meeting one of his roommates for the first time and he probably looked like some kind of creepy stalker. Hopefully they would be able to laugh this off later.
Bree's kinder repeat of Karter's question, brought Chris out of the little worry circle his thoughts were doing. "I'm Christopher Swift. But most people just call me Chris, as it tends to be swifter." Well at least his sense of humor was intact. Of course it was a horrible pun, puns often were, but he rarely used puns. Of course people who just met him wouldn't know that.
Mentally he smacked his hand against his forehead in frustration. Why didn't he think of that before he made the pun. If there was one consolation he managed to keep all of his frustration and self anger internalized. No one could tell that in his mind he was banging his proverbial head against the proverbial wall.
All of this mental cycle of frustration lasted only couple of seconds. "I was looking for a table to eat at. But they all seem full and I wouldn't want to impose. So I suppose I'll just take the food back to our room and eat it there, that is if your fine with having food in our room?"
Well he managed to steer the conversation away from that horrid pun, at least he hoped so. Dorm room ground rules were a pretty safe topic, at least he thought it was.

"Yep," she started, "It's me, Bree! And you must be Karter, I'm guessing."
Phew so this was Bree! He took a sigh of relief and watched as she did too. They were evidently both relieved that they were each other rather making a fool of themselves and, instead, greeting someone else. Well who would like doing that? He wasn't sure and the thought kind of made him chuckle a bit. Imagine going up to someone you didn't know, asking if they were someone specific, them saying no, you saying "oh...ok" and then leaving. That's as awkweird as you can get. His first impression of her was very good. She seemed very jolly and cheery and was a very attractive girl. He knew that she was younger than him but, really, who cares. He could still think that she was pretty. He felt as if she was exactly the way she came off to be when they were chatting on the computer. That was a good thing. He hoped that he was making the same first impression that she was, though he really doubted it. He knew that this whole thing would probably be seen in a different way than he wanted it to, but hey, he'll make it work. He really wanted to get to know Bree a little better as he thought they would get along great. "That's good to hear!" he said with a small smile, "Imagine I made a fool of myself by asking the wrong person. We really should've planned this out better" Really, they should've but at least they found each other ok. He then looked back at the boy that was standing next to Bree. He knew that he had come off a bit rude, but he was happy that Briana ended up greeting him in a more cheerful way, "I was wondering the same thing!" she said very cheery, "I'm Brianna. What's your name?" Yup, that was a much better way to greet him. Though, in Karter's own unique way, this is exactly what he was trying to ask him. Oh boy, he needed to work on it. The boy then spoke, "I'm Christopher Swift. But most people just call me Chris, as it tends to be swifter." Christopher Swift! Oh no, now he felt even more bad. This was his roommate! This was the first time that they had met, and he now felt even worse for coming off as he did. Though he couldn't really help it, he should've tried harder. He hoped that this first impression wouldn't last too long. He had also spoke to the duo on AIM before they agreed to come down. How could he be so stupid? How could he not put two and two together? Though really, how would you? Ok so maybe it wasn't entirely his fault. Christopher spoke again, "I was looking for a table to eat at. But they all seem full and I wouldn't want to impose. So I suppose I'll just take the food back to our room and eat it there, that is if your fine with having food in our room?" Nah he wasn't intruding. Honestly, Karter always spoke his mind, and what was on his mind at all was not for Christopher to leave, but for him to join the couple in their lunch in. "Christopher, nice to meet you." he gave a smile and held out his hand for it to be shook as a warm greeting, "I'm Karter, looks like we're roommates." He was very happy that he had now met his roommate and at least knew one of them. He had not met the other yet, or even spoken to them online yet, though one was a good start. "And don't be ridiculous, you can eat down here with us" he knew that he probably shouldn't have invited him to the table without Bree confirming this idea, but he didn't want Christopher to go upstairs because he wanted to know more about him as well. He, after all, was living with him. "And no worries, we'll discuss dorm rules later" He gave a smile. He then looked back at both of them and said, "I've got my table over there if you guys want to come and join me." He pointed to his table and motioned for them to follow him as he started walking towards it. They would finish their conversation there. oh, she got a way with the boys in the placeTREAT EM' LIKE THEY DON'T STAND A CHANCE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Brianna could almost feel the relief radiating off of Karter once she confirmed herself as the "Bree" he'd been looking for. And she must admit, she was thankful that this was Karter, as well. How embarrassing would it have been for her if this wasn't him? Brianna could only but imagine how uncomfortable that would've been for Karter if he had walked up to a complete stranger and asked for someone who they had never heard of before. Now that would have been awkward.
So, this was him, Brianna thought to herself. Her umber-brown feline eyes glanced over him only briefly, but Bree felt compelled to acknowledge his good-looks. At first, she hadn't noticed how appealing Karter was, mostly because she was more focused on knowing whether or not he was in fact Karter, but now she was able to recognize his perfectly tousled hair and solid facial features. He seemed like a nice guy, and Karter had left a good impression in Brianna's book.
She felt somewhat red-faced for staring and turned her eyes away from him to hide her embarrassment. When a distant-sounding voice spoke, Brianna looked up, breaking away from her thoughts to hear what Karter was saying.
"That's good to hear!" Karter had said with a small smile, "Imagine I made a fool of myself by asking the wrong person. We really should've planned this out better."
Bree suppressed a light giggle. "Definitely," she agreed. "'I'm wearing a red shirt and jean shorts' probably would've helped. Or we even could've gone with something stupidly useful, like name tags. I didn't think I was ever going to find you!"
Brianna then turned her focus to the other boy, who she was still awaiting an answer from. She was a little surprised, but in a good way, when she found that this was Chris, Karter's roommate and the other boy she'd been chatting with. "I'm Christopher Swift. But most people just call me Chris, as it tends to be swifter," the boy had joked. Bree thought the pun was a little dorky, but she liked people with quirks. They were more interesting and a whole lot more open and friendly. On top of that, they always had the most hilarious stories to tell.
"Wow, it's like I never left the computer," Brianna joked, maneuvering her tray on one hand so that she could tuck a strand of loose hair behind her ear. "But it's nice to finally get the chance to meet you guys. Bree, as it happens, was very pleased to be able to meet the boys, even if the whole situation itself was a little unusual. They both, so far, seemed to be very genial and the type of people she got along with. Besides, it was nice to finally be talking with people rather than stuck sweating and being sore after dancing and dancing for hours on end. Speaking of which, she'd planned on heading there later that night and groaned at the thought. She was so tired and so hungry, she was hoping one of them would make a motion to sit down.
"I was looking for a table to eat at. But they all seem full and I wouldn't want to impose. So I suppose I'll just take the food back to our room and eat it there, that is if your fine with having food in our room?" Christopher said. Brianna opened her mouth to protest, and invite him over to the table, but Karter had beaten her to it. Bree grinned at the coincidence and followed him to his seat, beckoning Chris to join them.
"Yeah, come and sit with us! I promise I won't bite," said Brianna cheerfully and set her tray down on the table surface, then sat in her chair and scooted herself up to the table. Despite having a black panther as a shift, Brianna was sure she could keep her urges to bite under control as a human. "Nice to meet you too. Yes it looks like we are. I haven't had a chance to get over the yet. How's the view?" Chris was really curious about their room. If it had a nice view of the ocean than that would be just perfect, but if not, well what could you do. Whispered words of wisdom He thought to himself. That pretty much described his general opinion on life, you do what you can but when fate takes a hand then just let it be.
Then Bree made her comment about how it felt like she never got online. "Oh so you were looking at pictures of roasted chickens while you were chatting?" Then He smirked a bit to show he was joking. "I'm just kidding. It's weird the way the winds of fate drive mere mortals hither and yon like flotsam and jetsam upon an eternal sea."
Of course it was normal for Chris to think of things in terms like that, since it was winds that drove him from his family during his first shift. It was also the wind that drove the Captain Cook to his rescue when he unexpectedly shifted back into human form over the open ocean. It was winds that drove him to London on the same ship, and finally winds had brought him here. Of course the fact that he read a lot of poetry also contributed to how he phrased the main point of his philosophy on life.
At the invitation of both involved parties, Chris also sat down. He popped one of his sushi rolls into his mouth and chewed it thoughtfully. Yes their was that familiar taste of raw fish, though the seaweed did add an interesting flavor. But it still needed something. He kept chewing trying to decipher what his taste buds were telling him the sushi needed. Once it was thoroughly chewed he swallowed. Experimentally, Chris grabbed a salt shaker and sprinkled some salt on to a sushi roll. He popped it into his mouth and chewed again. Yes that was what had been missing. He sprinkled salt on the rest of his sushi rolls, and then took a sip of water.
"So how are we going to do this getting to know each other thing? Are we going to play twenty questions or are we going to swap life stories over a box of chocolates?"
