Books weren't exactly her most common form of escape, in fact, she got a little bit antsy just sitting somewhere and reading. Her gaze kept drifting to the window, wishing she was outside. It wasn't that she wasn't allowed outside, it was just that, well, it was a little bit gloomy out there. Scarlet hated rain, and she didn't want to accidentally get caught outside when or if it started thundering. Frustrated, she tapped the cover of the book with her long fingers. Bored, she stared down at the words that seemed to leap off the page, spiraling into a chaotic mess of letters that couldn't be read.
She wasn't even sure what she was reading. Scarlet had just swung by the library and grabbed a book, not reading the cover, or the overview to see if she'd like it. To be honest, she didn't even care, it wasn't like she was really interested in reading it. Laughter caught her attention and her cool gaze switched to the small cluster of people who were talking amongst themselves. Envy swelled up inside of her, envy of their friendship, but as always, she pushed it back down and watched with a levelheaded impartialness.
When one of the girl's gaze turned towards Scarlet, she jerked her head forcibly away, and stared at the book. Getting caught people watching was kind of embarrassing, but when the teenage girl was bored, she didn't really have much else to do. Nothing effected her to badly. Sighing, she tried to force herself to read the book laying open in her hands.
Just as she was able to gain back her concentration, a person hurried into the room. Unwilling to get caught looking at someone again, she kept her gaze on the book, though her ears kept a steady track of where the noisy newcomer was. The careless way he threw his stuff around, Scarlet was positive he was intent on annoying everyone in the room. Having just been able to actually start reading, even Scarlet was getting frustrated.
"read in the library" Scarlet narrowed her eyes when she heard him whisper. He had no right to tell her where she could or could not read her book. She did what she wanting, when and where she wanted to do it! The crumpling sounds of paper grated on her sensitive ears, and she realized that the group of people had exited the lounge because of the rudeness of this new person.
When he pulled out a piece of paper and seemed ready to either write or draw, Scarlet was sure he would quiet down. However, apparently, drawing is a not so quiet task. Occasionally, she felt him looking at her, as if deliberately provoking her, asking for a fight. Normally, Scarlet would have just left, as she was more prone to walk away from confrontations. However, she was annoyed, bored out of her mind, and ready to give this inconsiderate person a talking to. Aggravation seeping from her voice, she spoke. "Ever heard of common courtesy?"

Why did situations like this seem to flock to her? She honestly didn't think it was to much to ask to have some peace a quiet. Maybe she would take the stranger's advice, maybe she would just go back to the library and sit in the quiet. It was ridiculous of her to ever believe someone could show any kind of civility towards her. She was already vexed by his rude actions, and she couldn't imagine how much worse it would be when he actually opened his mouth to speak.
She fidgeted in her seat when he kept staring at her. One eyebrow raised she pondered an absurd idea, was he drawing her? Surely not, she admonished herself sharply in her mind. Yet, she couldn't stop herself from thinking that he was. He certainly gave off that impression. Still, he could be less… abrupt about it. Besides, wasn't it a little creepy to be drawing someone you don't know. Kind of stalker like in Scarlet's opinion. Clenching her teeth together she focused back on her book, trying to ignore the guy seated not to far from where she was. Unfortunately, with the feeling of being watched, Scarlet couldn't concentrate on anything but the fact that he kept looking over at her. It was driving her up the wall.
Still, he refused to acknowledge other than the constant glances. "You're making this my fault?" She asked, and underlying hint of anger causing her voice she quake ever so slightly. Of all the inconsiderate things to say! She heard him continue to grumble, but even with her acute sense of hearing she couldn't pick up on any words. "you who won't stop staring at me…" she muttered crossly under her breath.
She hissed quietly at his words, but refused to look at him. When he tossed it at her, she couldn't help but grab it easily with her hand. Flattening it out, she scrutinized the image that he had drawn. Her. Just as he said, there was a blank space where her mouth normally would have been. Despite that, she easily recognized herself, and grudgingly she admitted to herself that it was quite good. Her eyes flashed as she struggled not to yell at the guy, who was evidently quite smug as he made as much noise with his pencil as he could.
Fine. She could do this, she could be civil, even if he was to immature to be. With the skill she had mastered over the years, she carefully wiped all traces of emotion from her facial features, now wearing a carefully black expression as she looked up at the other shifter. "It's good, but with the way you're perched up on your high horse, I suppose you already knew that much?" She asked, her innocent expression belied by her sarcastic tone.

The problem with being able to shift was that you got the instincts of the animal, usually. Scarlet was no exception, and the need to flee and fight fought within her at all times. Unfortunately, at this moment, the desire to fight was winning, and she was struggling to keep control of the treacherous animal that she was so unlucky enough to call her own. She had first shifted at the age of thirteen, and though that was three years ago, she still found it difficult to choose when and where she shifted, which was a danger to herself and anyone who happened to be around her at the time. Calming herself, which was a feat in itself, she stared at him passively, determined not to lose her cool yet again.
With her sarcastic comment, she had almost expected him to lash back out, and she was actually surprised when he responded calmly, even with a small smile. With an analytical mind like she had, she couldn't help but be impressed with the way he handled her slightly off compliment. Shocked, she found herself grinning in reply to his answer. "I'm afraid you missed 'slumming it' by a country mile." She said with a shake of her head. Having noticed she was smiling, she quickly wiped it from her face, something in her always afraid of showing emotion. She raised an eyebrow at his unexpected modesty in regards to his art. Then again, didn't most artists feel that way? Unless they were completely egocentric that is. Still, she wasn't one to reiterate a compliment.
With a vague sense of satisfaction, Scarlet noticed that he had gotten quieter, and her frazzled nerves were beginning to calm. Like usual, she was already assessing who he was, and she was fairly sure he was just a jerk to see what kind of a reaction he could get from people, because he was amused by it. At his comment she couldn't help the incredulous smirk that tilted up the corner of her mouth. "Me? Impress someone? Hardly. I can't imagine there being someone here that I found worth impressing." Though she meant it casually, she couldn't help thinking it was true. Sure everyone at the academy were shifters, but that didn't mean they were anything like her. Besides, from what she'd seen, guys weren't interested in a girl's personality, but in something else entirely. "Besides, the thought of pining after someone just doesn't sit well with me," She looked at him, curious as to how he had gotten her to talk so easily. "And you, I suppose the only reason you came here was to draw and mind yours manners like a good citizen." Scarlet couldn't help that her humor often came in the form of sarcasm.

Scarlet waited for his reply, knowing that he wasn't going to leave her little comments without a response. He was predictable in that way at least, and he was sure to return with more sarcasm, yet again. Oh well, she actually felt like having company now. Which was shocking, she was more of a loner, since she could never seem to get along with anyone, no matter how hard she tried. Admittedly, she usually didn't try very hard. Being her self was typically enough to send anyone she met running for cover. She briefly wondered if she should work on being nicer, but quickly threw that idea out. There was no way that was going to happen. Only if a miracle occurred that is.
"So…" She watched him with calculating eyes as he leaned forward slightly, mentally steeling herself for his verbal jab. Flawless? She could only laugh at that, which shockingly, she actually did laugh. Her eyes widened and she jerked her gaze from him and stared at the floor till she gained her composure with once again, a blank, meaningless facade of complacency. Ahem, right, of course. That's exactly what I'm like. You pegged me, I really don't know how you do it." She tried for her typical sarcastic tone, but it fell flat and she finished the statement awkwardly, just like the way she started it.
"Kings?" She asked blankly, for once not following him at all. Her brain seemed jammed and she couldn't think of anything witty or scathing to say in reply. She was determined to come up with something, but everything she thought of just fell short of being ridiculous. This was never a good sign. This was about the time she quickly exited the room. When she couldn't keep her composure and be perfectly emotionless, everything went wrong. She watched him idly doodle on the page, but kept her mouth shut for the most part.
She managed a tight smile when he said something and tossed her a wink, though his words seemed to escape her mental grasp, and she was left with not a word to say in response. Not such an interesting conversation when she couldn't offer an intelligent retort. "Nerds?" That jarred her out of her trance like state, and she raised an eyebrow. "Such a generalization, I usually get creative titles. Brainiac, genius, human computer, really, anythings more imaginative that nerd. It's such an overused, cliche word." She stopped her mini rant and racked her brain, why was she here really. Despite his phrasing, he was right, usually she would be in the library or in her dorm. "I just got two roommates, so it can be a little crowded sometimes, as for the library, the silence can be a bit stifling at times." She muttered in excuse. She glanced outside, the sky was beginning to clear and the sun was starting to shine. "I just… wanted a change in the normal, I guess." She shrugged her shoulders, refusing to me his gaze.

An amused smile tilted up the corners of her lips as he responded with her small rant, with one of his own, and it was actually a plausible explanation. "Ah, I stand corrected then and I suppose even more insulted than previously?" She smirked slightly at him, a little bit surprised and impressed that he could string together such and intelligent sounding response. Then again, she didn't think he was stupid, but the was he was able to answer her, sounded like something she would've said in the same situation. Not that she had been in this type of situation a lot. Who was she kidding, she got into this kind of a spot all the time. An easy going conversation was one she never got. Probably because she wasn't really open to a nice friendly talk with a stranger. She grinned at the smug look that adorned his face, he was obviously pleased with how he had managed to word his response.
She watched calmly as he continued to scribble on his page, not even really focusing on what he was doing. Scarlet had never been artistically inclined, even though she used to have a great desire to be an artist. She just hadn't practiced, and therefor, she ended up with next to no skill in that department. It just seemed to come easily for the guy, like it was second nature to have a pencil in his hand, creating quick short strokes on the page. She envied the ease at which he did it, for a moment, then shook it off, focusing on what he was saying instead.
"My normal is kind of boring at times." She admitted readily. It wasn't like she was trying to hide the way her life was. She got bored, as didn't everyone else at some point in their lives. Despite liking to be alone, sometimes all it did was make her depressed. Ironic how her own personality caused it. "I take it you've done that before?" She asked him with a smile that covered up her laughter. "Something tells me I could find my way out, but I'm not sure I'd want to. I'd probably end up just wanting to stay in the woods forever." She shrugged her shoulders. Everybody knew being outside was far better than being cooped up indoors.
She tapped her fingers on the seat of her chair, tilting her head as she watched him trying to say something that seemed to not want to come out. When he finally formed the whole question, she looked away. Everybody thought it was creepy that she was a snake. After all, most girls, and even some guys, were afraid of snakes. It didn't exactly help with the friend situation either. "You're asking what I am, without even knowing my name?" She asked him teasingly. Because it was true, she didn't realize until just now, they hadn't even introduced themselves. "A King Cobra." She let it slip out of her part lips, almost unwillingly. "What about you? Something big and bad I'm sure."

Scarlet opened her mouth to deny his claim, then stopped. She pondered the idea for a moment. He was right. The thought surprised it, probably more than it should have, given the circumstances. Even as a though, those words were bitter, she was the type of person that didn't like to admit someone else was right, if she was so against their opinion. She sighed, not willing to get into an argument over it if she actually sided with him. "Who said I'd be alone? There's always the occasional person that wanders in." She paused, considering for a moment that idea of that. "Then again, you're probably right, it's not like I'd strike up a conversation. Especially if I was in shift form, they'd probably run screaming." She shrugged her shoulders, seeming to not care that her shift obviously, she searched for a word, startled some people.
The girl shook her head with a slight smile at his words, chuckling slightly under her breath so that it was barely audible. "Not particularly, but apparently I already did." She responded. He actually looked a bit embarrassed by the fact that he hadn't thought to ask her name before venturing to the rather controversial question.
She almost held her breath as she waited for his response when she said cobra. Scarlet almost expected him to come back with a biting remark about he guessed she was something that cold blooded. Cold hearted. That's what she was always called, maybe they were right, she didn't show that many emotions… Unlike most girls she had met in her life. At reply she couldn't help but light up in relief, before starting to laugh at his response. "Yeah, I guess I'm the one who has it easy if you look at it like that. Although a wolf is pretty cool, a lot better than something to do with cats. She shuddered, felines just didn't agree with her.
Scarlet clamped her mouth shut as he asked for her name. The name Nadia had almost slipped easily from her mouth. She shut her blue eyes, reminding herself that she was no longer innocent Nadia. The back of her eyelids seemed to glow red as a reminder of what she was now known by. "Scarlet…" She opened her eyes slowly. "My name is Scarlet." She looked at him, tilting her head ever so slightly to the right, brown locks obscuring her vision partially. "What about you, what am I supposed to call you?" She asked with a small smile, trying to be polite in return. He'd probably get up to leave any minute, but she was content for the moment, not restless sitting there, not like usual.
