Brett is a homebody at heart. He has a routine and likes to stick to it. Brett enjoys the comforts of a home (or his dormroom) and does not like to take too many risks if he doesn’t have to. A quiet time snuggled up next to a sweet (and cute) guy would be his ideal way to spend a Saturday night. (Ironically most chinchillas hate being held or cuddled, but Brett is the kind that will take any and all attention he can get.) He’s quite easily spooked or thrown off his routine, and it may take him a while to get used to drastic changes.
Brett’s homebody attitude is reflected in much of the way he interacts with people. Brett is not a conversationalist, yet at the same time hates to be ignored. “Active wallflower” is the more appropriate term. He tends to listen to others more than carry the conversation, and when he does speak he tends to be very softspoken and willing to manipulate his ideas to accommodate those around him. He shrinks away from confrontations because he absolutely hates fighting (especially when he’s being yelled at). He’s been known to burst into tears if someone keeps picking on him. Some describe him as overly emotional, and while he can be a bit clingy and emotional he does mean well. Brett just has a hard time expressing himself while still trying to please everyone around him. If you do befriend him he will be unwavering in his loyalty (even if it is to the point of stupidity).
A big part of Brett’s life is his love of food. Although he’s a nutrition major and knows that not everything on his plate or available to eat should go in his mouth, he can’t help the taste of some things. Chinchillas have very delicate constitutions and need to follow a strict diet, so Brett is always conscious of what he’s eating. Luckily he likes exercise, especially when it involves jumping such as when he participates in track and field. This avid activity helps work off the extra pounds from the occasional sweet.
Brett’s negative qualities can be apparent. Brett does not like being left out or alone of anything, so even if he silently tags along he still likes to feel included. This wouldn’t be so bad if he actually had the guts to ask to tag along first. He can be a bit moody, but this is mostly when he’s just waking up or extremely upset. When Brett’s happy he’s even tempered, but when he’s upset he’s a complete wreck. If he’s ever rejected he goes into a more introverted state of depression because he feels “unwanted”. This can be accompanied by week-long periods of being alone or crying, and it takes Brett a while to readjust to acting normal again. He can also fall in “love” quickly, which can have catastrophic results.

Celebrity Play By: Doug Brochu
Appearance:
Brett has a classic Aryan look. He has sandy blonde hair and light blue eyes, and very fair skin. His skin requires SPF 35 at the least, and that’s only if he’s attempting to get a tan. Tans usually don’t work for him as he turns pink and then burns before he can tan, so he’s stopped trying. His face is round and resembles that of someone probably a few years younger than him, which is why Brett is often mistaken for a thirteen year old. Brett is fairly short, only standing about 5’ 2”. The most striking thing people notice about Brett is his weight. Brett is definitely more than a little chubby. In fact he’s quite overweight, weighing about 170 llbs, when his appropriate weight for his frame should only be about 148 llbs. He has not many other distinguishing marks, as his parents would absolutely kill him if he ever got a tattoo or a piercing. His clothing style tends to be casual. He wears baggy T-shirts and shorts to try and hide his weight problem although it doesn’t really work. Brett will never take his shirt off because he’s ashamed of his body’s shape and the fact that he’s covered in fine blonde hair. Unless the weather is extremely cold Brett can be found in summer attire, because the “fur coat” makes him very tolerant to cold temperatures and very sensitive to heat.
Brett as a chinchilla is part of the more common domesticated species, the long-tailed chinchilla. This species of chinchilla is the same size, approximately 10 inches long with a tail taking up a third of that length. The major difference is that the ears and tail of this species are longer, but it would take a true expert to notice the difference in length. He has a thick, soft, salt-and-pepper coat. The chinchilla form also has long, sensitive whiskers and eyes that are adapted to nocturnal settings, so Brett tends to hop out of the light when he is turned into a chinchilla. Brett’s chinchilla legs are surprisingly powerful, allowing him to hop nearly three times his chinchilla height. Brett tries to keep his chinchilla teeth short by constantly chewing on wood in his chinchilla form but they tend to get a little longer than they should. To tell Brett apart from a real chinchilla would be very hard, other than that he has a slightly more rounded head and shorter nose, taken from his human appearance.
...history
Parents: Michael James (mink shifter), Sophia James (viscacha shifter)
Siblings: None
[400 words minimum]
Michael and Sophia James did not have good experiences shifting while growing up, and they were determined never to pass the trait on to their offspring by having the solemn vow never to have children. This didn’t work, and Brett was accidentally conceived. The couple decided to keep him, but never to reveal the fact they were shifters in hopes that Brett would never possess the trait. They didn’t know about genetics and that a pair of double recessive trait parents would guarantee a double recessive trait child. Brett had a rather sheltered childhood. Afraid that their child would grow up to be a shifter, his parents had him home schooled after kindergarten. Brett grew up blissfully unaware of social interaction with kids his age, and excelled in his school studies.
He learned to be very happy growing up in the seclusion of his immediate family until his twelfth birthday with his favorite food. For reasons Brett couldn’t understand, his entire body suddenly began aching and to his horror he seemed to be shrinking. Realizing what was happening, his father locked him inside a closet. Brett couldn’t understand why he could suddenly see almost clearly in the dark, or why he felt a strange mustache was scratching the sides of the closet, or why he couldn’t reach the door handle except when he jumped. His pleas to get out only came out as strange barking noises, and his father didn’t let him out of the closet until he heard Brett crying hours later. This cycle repeated the next dozen times it happened- Brett would shift and his father would shut him away for his own safety so as not to alarm Brett about what was happening, even though the process had long stopped hurting. Although Michael and Sophia hoped that this would go away both knew it never would and they planned on sending him away to learn to control and suppress his shifting.
The day before he was shipped off to the Shifter Academy they sat him down and explained to him the entire story. Unfortunately this was not done soon enough and Brett fears shifting and being in chinchilla form because of the memories so closely associated with it. It wasn’t until he was actually attending the Shifter Academy he even knew what animal he actually became. He’s been getting better at controlling it but with the new stress of a completely different school system, a much larger amount of kids than he was used to, and the uncomfortable feeling he associated with shifting he’s been learning about his ability at a much slower rate than most. He’s only attended one year so far but he hopes to improve his abilities.

[One Paragraph Minimum (Can be point form)]
Being a child of two parents with extremely soft fur Brett was destined to be a soft fur mammal. He has a constant need for attention much the way a domestic chinchilla seeks its owner’s attention. He also avoids confrontation and makes little noise, much like the way a chinchilla only barks when it feels threatened and runs at the first sign of danger. Brett also is careful to watch his diet and exercise constantly the way any chinchilla is forced to take care of themselves. Finally, he is a night owl and loves to sleep, much like the nocturnal nature of the chinchilla.

“Ah swear Kitty, if you don’t turn down that racket, Ah am goin’ to take that boom box and break it over your head, whether you can phase through it or not!” Rogue snapped angrily, pointing a pencil accusingly at her bubbly and annoyingly loud roommate. Honestly, when had common courtesy disappeared from society anyway? It was very plain that she had a large test coming up and was studying very, very hard for it based on the sheer amount of books, papers, and the goth girl’s rather testy mood.
Sighing again, the southern belle turned back to her work. Chewing her eraser, she looked at the next sample problem. She began to read it softly out loud. “If the A Train is pullin’ out of the station at 11:00 am, an’ travelin’ at 120 miles per hour… an’ the B Train is pullin’ out of the station at 12 noon, an’ travelin’ at 90 miles per hour… at what point… well who was the stupid engineer that set up the tracks to make those trains crash anyway?!” Rogue yelled, crumpling up her scrap work paper and throwing it against the wall. Honestly, who would want a train wreck, and why did she care what time they were going to crash? Math was an absolutely pointless subject. And why was she learning it at a school for mutants? She should be in the danger room practicing on Magneto dummies or beating up simulated goons, not stuck solving algebra. Finding x was not going to stop Magneto from ruling the world or stop humans from hating mutants.
“Maybe Ah can get someone to help me with this…” she muttered to herself, thinking of who in the mansion was smart and willing to help. Bobby meant well but the poor boy was just as clueless as her. The swamp rat knew nothing but gambling odds. Kitty wasn’t going to be any help unless she turned down the bubble gum racket she called music. Rogue didn’t want to go bothering any of the younger students. She doubted Logan knew what to do other than count to three, and that was only because of his claws. Ororo or the Professor might have been able to help but she didn’t want to pester them either. This only left the southern girl a few choices in her mind. A small smile crept across her face as she realized her “dear brother” Kurt was getting A’s barely trying in math.
“Oh Blue Boy!” she called down the hallway, looking for Kurt, “Come out come out wherever you are. Your little sister needs homework help.”
