Lykaios sat down in the soft, green grass and let out a small sigh. Everything had gone wrong today. She forgot some of her homework in her dorm, got food spilled on her at lunch by some guy, and also got in a fight with someone in her class. After exchanging her dirty clothes for clean ones, Lykaios could finally relax. Today was not something she wanted to relive. She rubbed her temple, feeling a headache coming on. The weather was nice today, not too hot and not too cold. It was almost unfair that the world should be so happy when she was so miserable.
A group of obnoxious kids throwing a frisbee around didn't help her mood, either. They screeched and laughed, tackling one another. Lyakios frowned and considered moving, seeing that the group wasn't going to stop anytime soon. If she wasn't feeling so down, Lykaios might have considered asking the group if she could join. But at the moment, Lykaios would rather jump in a pit filled with scorpions then play frisbee with immature kids.
"Watch it!" Lykaios yelled as a kid misdirected the frisbee, almost hitting her in the head. Luckily, she ducked just in time so that the frisbee just barely touched her. The entire group turned and stared at her, their eyes wide. Immediately she felt embarrassed, but she wasn't about to show that. "Probably freshmen," she muttered under her breath as she shook her head. She looked down at the book in her lap and ran two fingers over the glossy cover. This book she had been wanting to read for a long time, but now she hardly felt motivated to even open its new pages. It was a romance book, a genre that Lykaios has a passion for. Her friends, however, think she would be the last person to get into those types of books. It wasn't just a passion, it was a secret passion. It would ruin her entire "tough" image if people knew she was into that kind of genre. Lykaios turned the book over so that the title was face down, just in case anyone happened to walk by. It was unlike Lykaios to be afraid of showing her true self. She took pride in her shift, and who she was. And she wasn't afraid to show it. Even her name, which was a little odd compared to more traditional names, was something she treasured. It made her feel more unique, and it let her stand out. Lykaios pulled back a piece of hair that hung in front of her face, finding it suddenly irritating. She folded her hands in her lap, and enjoyed the fresh, comforting breeze. The sun was just beginning to set, and most of the students had already gone to their dorms. But tonight, the dorm just seemed to cramped. Lykaios closed her eyes, allowing herself to relax for the first time that day.
