* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
The rain had finally picked up the next morning. The morning after that incident he had with Rin in the library. His mind kept wandering back to that, replaying it all one event after the other. Strange probably wasn’t even the word to identify it. He hadn’t been in the library since then. Especially since the librarian refused to let him go back for the next couple of weeks. He had been surprised that was all she was doing, despite everything that had happened. The Flamingo Lawns were nice and quiet – well, quiet wasn’t really the word for it. It was a popular place for students. More like peaceful, though. The atmosphere really set that off. A lot of people thought the library was peaceful. But it was too quiet for Luke. It felt that if he would look up, everyone would be staring at him for some reason. That’s what he felt like in a lot of places.
He looked around at all of the students that were there. None of them were looking at him. Probably because he wasn’t doing anything interesting. For once he wasn’t causing any trouble that would draw attention to himself. As he got lost in his thoughts, he kept walking. He passed the Flamingo Lawns, passed everything else until he had reached the forest. He noticed himself walking in, following a premade path, but it didn’t register until he actually looked up and pulled out of his thoughts. He was surrounded by trees and bushes of various shapes and sizes. At least he wasn’t lost, though.
“How did I end up here?”
That was what happened when he thought too much about something. Luke sat down along side of the path and propped himself up against a tree. He could hear birds chirping off in the distance, but other than that it was quiet. He leaned his head up against the tree and closed his eyes. Something flapped by his head and his eyes shot open as he looked around. Perching on the branch of the tree in front of him was a small bird. He breathed a sigh of relief, but realized it was still looking at him. He had no clue how many people could actually shift into birds. That’s one reason he didn’t like the forest so much. People could easily hide in there, spying on whoever they wanted. It was much easier for birds. He slid his hand over and his fingers curled around a small rock. He tossed it as hard as he could towards the bird, but it flew off before the rock even reached it. It hit the branch, bounced off and to the ground. It was just another example of people who couldn’t mind their own business. Then again, that kind of made him a hypocrite, because he liked spying on others.tagged , Daniellewords , 478lyrics , run this town - jay-znotes , Here's the "code" so to speak: "What I say," What I think and emphasize on words, ”Other people speaking.” And yes, I did tag with your real name. :P credit , rora @ hos

So. This was it, then.
Shifter Academy, here in the 'flesh', for lack of better words. Her parents had loaded the poor girl down with pamphlets, brochures, and even the pins that you can stick on a jacket or something ever since her thirteenth birthday. She'd refused at first, the mere thought of being around other people that were like her was more appalling than welcoming. A bunch of freaks walking around in one nice, convenient spot? More than likely, all of them killers in some way or form? Heidi understood that the killing was natural; pure instinct. But the idea of it still gave her the willies. However, eventually she gave into her mother's constant nagging and her father's pleading puppy eyes some years later and- well, here she was. Just now coming out of her dorm room, those obnoxiously heavy bags finally out of her hands and clothes still not unpacked, the girl took a look in each direction down the halls. No one really seemed to be around, which was a little depressing and a little relieving at the same time. Still, she was s social creature and being left alone for too long would start to draw it's side effects if she didn't find a populated area soon.
With a heavy sigh, the search began.
There wasn't much sound save for the light clicks of her plastic flats hitting the linoleum floor bouncing off of the walls, and things were starting to get a tad lonely. Figuring everyone had to be outside, Heidi shoved her hands into her pockets and whistled to herself, bopping her head along to the made-up song as she more or less found her way out. The moment her body pushed through the heavy doors, the sun nearly blinded her with it's intense rays. Heidi shook her head quickly and fetched her glasses from the top of her skull, where her hair kept it in place quite nicely. Gotta love handy hair..
Using one hand to slide the thick white-rimmed glasses, she used the other to keep her pocket company as the teenager made her way across the campus. So, looked like everyone was outside! Or at least a few bunches were, either sun tanning felines basking here and there or furry woodland creatures taking shade from the trees. There were still people in their human forms, and to these she gave a warm smile and a wave as she passed on by, going no where in particular. A couple waved back, where as the others didn't even notice she was there - no worries. So long as Heidi was around someone, she was A-Okay. Looking ahead and still whistling her somewhat of a song, she noticed a path breaking into the woods. Huh.
Succumbing to her curiosity, she decided to go and check it out. Can't hurt, right? Hey, maybe this place is like... The Secret Garden, or something. she thought with a smug little grin, proud of herself for actually remembering the name of the novel. It'd been years since she read it last. Too bad I don't have a key. Picking up her speed a little, she entered into the forest-like area, totally swamped with various shades of green in moments. Trees overhung the walkway, but it still provided enough light from the blazing sun to see. Lucky for her, it wasn't dark out. Something faint caught her attention, though, and she froze; listening. When nothing happened, she shrugged and kept on. "Guess I'm hearing things now."
She walked on for a few more feet, and as she turned a corner, she could see the silhouette of someone resting by a tree. The back of the person was to her, but it looked to be male from the posture and build of the frame. She'd just barely witnessed a rock sailing from the guy's direction, and watched it take aim as it horribly missed the bird. Which was by now flying off. Frowning around her sunglasses, Heidi stomped her foot, kicked it out to the side, and placed a hand on her hip. Oh no. Looked like he was about to get 'the business', Heidi style. "It's a downright shame to come to a school based around animals, and see someone trying to harass a bird!" She called over to the stranger, her kicked out foot starting to tap it's self madly on the ground. If it was one thing she hated, it was animal cruelty. "You ought to be ashamed of yourself." And so the girl stood there, waiting, and practically fuming with irritation. Just who did this guy think he was?

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
Maybe if he would shift into his Jaguar form, he wouldn’t have to be so paranoid about people watching him. Nothing much could bother him in that form, unless a lion or something walked by. But then there was the problem about either leaving his clothes in the forest or having them ripped to shreds, in which case that would be one outfit less that he had. At first he was buying clothes every other week to make up for the ones that he had lost, but now she didn’t shift as much and tried not to rip his clothes so much.
At least he wouldn’t have to worry about leaving his cell phone somewhere. Considering Rin had crushed it and it was now buried outside the library somewhere. He hadn’t seen her in the last day or two, so her phone was still hidden safely in his room until he could return it.He picked up a rock and tossed it, and was about to throw another, when he heard footsteps from behind him and a voice.
”It's a downright shame to come to a school based around animals, and see someone trying to harrass a bird!"
Luke stood up and spun around, preparing to face whoever or whatever it was. It was likely a person or a person who had shifted into an animal, but there was still the possibility of a wild animal as well. He wasn’t expecting the person he saw. And her personality hadn’t changed one bit apparently. He looked at her in surprise as she scolded him again.
"You ought to be ashamed of yourself."
Grinning, he walked over to the girl, an irritated look on her face. “Heidi! You haven’t changed a bit.” He picked her up and twirled her around in a hug. When he put her back on the ground, he studied her a bit. Her hair was still the reddish-brown it had been the last time he had seen her. She had always had a unique taste in clothes. “Well, maybe you have a little. You seem taller than the last time I saw you.”
It had been several months since they had the chance to hang out. The only time they got to see each other was when he visited his relatives up in Maine or when she went down to Arizona. And neither were that often. Suddenly he remembered what she had said and turned to look back at where the bird had been. She must have caught him throwing a rock at it. Oh yeah, about that…
“Right, about the bird… I wasn’t harassing it.” Well, he didn’t consider it harassing at least. “It was literally just staring at me and you know how I get about people staring.”
Even though it was a bird staring, and not a person. But there was a very good chance that the bird was a human. Probably a student that went to the school. After all, they were on an island where people could shift into animals. The bird had been smart enough to fly off anyways, so he hadn’t even had the chance to hit it.
“It was probably spying on me or something,” he said, trying to convince her that he was not committing animal cruelty. “Anyways, how long have you been here? I haven’t seen you around.”tagged , Heidiwords , 559lyrics , run this town - jay-znotes , None. credit , rora @ hos

Heidi stood there, continuing to seethe and brew in her irritation. How, just how in the world could a place like this sport such awful people? Couldn't they have at least posted signs up like, 'Don't hit the birds!' or something like that? Not usually one for a quick temper, her own behaviour surprised her. Ignoring that for now, she waited until she saw the culprit turn around. Her jaw never dropped so far in her life. "Luke!" she squealed happily, all previous thoughts of ways to viciously smack the not-so-stranger upside the head with the nearest branch completely diminished. It'd been legit ages since she'd seen her friend, and it was positively relieving to find someone she actually knew here. She'd have to blog about this later.
Before she had time to react, Heidi was scooped up off of the ground with ease and swung around in a dizzying circle. Her glasses swept off of her face and sailed to the ground as she laughed, staggering once her feet hit the floor again. It was actually hard to believe who she was seeing now, of all people to run into in the woods. "I grew?" she asked, looking down at herself as she stood on her tip-toes, trying to get a self analysis of how true this was. Or wasn't. "Huh... Well, it has been.. what?" she looked down at her hand, and counted her fingers off as she mumbled to herself. "Like, half a year or something hasn't it? So I guess I might've managed to sneak in an inch or two since the last time you popped a visit." Smiling, she took a step back and put both hands on her hips this time, "And lookit you! You get beefier and beefier every time I see you man, lay off the 'roids." A common joke Heidi liked to toss at Luke's way -- she knew he wasn't on drugs or anything, but she enjoyed poking fun at him for it regardless.
Suddenly, she looked around the area and noticed that everything was... lighter. How strange... A hand reached up and touched the side of her face, checking to see if a lense popped out of her glasses or something, until her fingers felt nothing but the bare skin of herself below them. Crap. Her sunglasses were gone. Heidi did a kind of half circle as she looked at the ground, twirling around herself as she tried to locate the glasses. Luke's words about the bird hit her ears, then, and she couldn't stop herself from rolling her eyes. She knew very well how paranoid he got about getting attention like that from people, so that wasn't too shocking. What -was-, though, was the fact that he still got the heebie jeebies from something not even half his size. "But it was just a bird, Luke." a swallow was made to keep any giggling at bay. She didn't want to upset him too much on their 'reunion', and manage to get herself trapped up a tree or something. Heidi was sure he was capable of many things, and wasn't brave enough to push his buttons and find out just what those things were. "Anyways, it's gone now, off to tell it's friends of the Big Bad Luke." And to this, the chuckling couldn't have been helped.
Her search for her glasses continued as she spoke to her old time friend, however, and she was having no luck. Just where could they have gone? Heidi wasn't being spun around -that- hard, so they couldn't have gone far. Why wasn't I a beagle... they're good at finding things.. Finally, she walked over to a nearby shrub and peered around it's prickly sides, careful not to lean too far over. And there, wedged securely in the bush, was the leg of her glasses. "Oh, I actually just got here today. Fresh off the ferry boat," she answered, stretching over to reach the scrawny leg of the frame. Plucking it out of the bushes, she reflexively made the motion to apply the sunglasses back on, until she realized that it was -only- the leg of the accessory. The leg had been detatched, which meant the rest of the body was out here some where. Devistated, she stood there with stooped shoulders, the little survivor laying flat on her palm as if it were dead. "Man.."
Giving up and walking back over to Luke, a pout was apparent all over her face as she hoisted the thing up and dangled it between the two of them. Wiggling it at him, "It broke.." and then commenced to pocketing the item away. Man, she hated losing glasses. Looking back up at him, her head cocked to the side as her wild, firey hair joustled with the movement, hazel eyes staring him down. "You look.. older."

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
”Yeah, you grew.” Not much, but he could tell either way that she had. “Yeah, probably half a year. But as you can see, I’ve been stuck here. I haven’t had any way to go up and visit.” As a matter of fact, he hadn’t been off the island since he got there. He wasn’t sure about the policy of visiting home or anything. Not that he wanted to see his parents any time soon. There was, of course, the other island where “normal” humans resided. They were allowed to go over there, as long as they didn’t spill their secret. But he hadn’t visited yet. He laughed as she teased him about being on steroids. That part of her would probably never change. She had teased him from the moment they met, and he only thought it was fair that he returned the favor.
“I’ll try to. It’s kind of hard, though.” Him? Take steroids? It wasn’t likely. But people did say he tended to look like a guy that did drugs or something. They never said why exactly that he looked like someone who would do that. But he guessed the important thing was that he didn’t actually do them. He watched as she began searching around for something- he didn’t know what. That showed how much he hadn’t actually been paying attention when he saw her. He just got excited when he realized who it was. He smirked as she teased him more. Made fun of him, because yes, he was paranoid over a bird.
“I wasn’t afraid it was going to jump me or anything.”
Although he guessed a bird like that could do some damage if it really wanted to. He watched more as she continued looking for something. Maybe if he asked, or perhaps helped her look, she would find what she was looking for. In the least he would know what she was trying to find. He should probably be a little more careful in the future so he didn’t make her lose anything. “Well “Big Bad Luke” will kick it’s a-“
She had seemed to have found what she was looking for, but it would obvious she was disappointed. When she came back over, she showed it to him. It was apart of her sunglasses. Now that he thought about it, she had been wearing some after all. Oops. He couldn’t help but laugh, even though he knew she would probably think he was laughing at her broken sunglasses. In fact, he was laughing because he had been so careless. Sometimes he really didn’t pay as much attention as he should. He thought he remembered seeing them fly off. The laughter died down as she looked at him. He had no clue what she was looking at.
”You seem…older.”
Older how? “Everyone ages just a little every second,” he teased. “Add that up between the last few months we haven’t seen each other, and this is what you get.”
He held out his arms as if showing himself off, but then put them back down and moved past her. His eyes carefully moved across the ground, in the direction he had thought he had seen her sunglasses fly. Something caught his eyes among the leaves and he pushed them out of the way. Smirking, he held them out to her. Now that he thought about it, he had known all along that she could shift. So after he knew about the school, he probably should have been expecting to see her. But leave it to him to leave out those details.

"I noticed they have you guys holed up here pretty tight.." came the comment, referring to his not coming out to visit. Being the 'newbie' at this academy, she wasn't really all too sure about the freedom the students had here either. Although they were on an island, so obviously the aim was to be as far from society as possible for the safety of the people. Or.. something like that. In the back of her mind, Heidi really did hope her parents would be able to at least visit, or send a post card or something. At least her father, if her mother was too busy. She was always too busy. "Y'know, they're bad for your health. We might have to get you to see a doctor." Another smug grin spread up over her lips as the two continued to chew the beef over the steroids deal. Man, it felt so nice to actually -know- someone at the school, and she couldn't get over it.
And then, the smugness cut off as another frown took it's place. Was he... laughing at her broken glasses? Ugh! The nerve. Standing there, stiff legged now, arms folded over themselves across her chest as she just shook her head at him. Heidi wasn't totally positive that that was the reason he was cracking up all of a sudden but, she figured it was a safe assumption all the same. Her glasses were her pride and joy, and couldn't imagine life without them. Infact, one of her multiple bags back in her dorm room was dedicated to nothing but a wide variety of different sunglasses for all the occassions she might need them in while at this school. Some were wide rimmed, with bug-eye looking lenses, and others were thin with brown lenses, and so on and so forth. Not to mention all the colors she'd managed to pack into the bag. Unfortunate for her, Victoria- Heidi's mother- had convinced her to leave some of them back at home, just incase she managed to lose them all. Kind of like she was already doing on the first day.
"You know, it's not nice to laugh at- Oh!" she could hardly keep herself from squealing at the sight of the rest of her glasses, still intact from what she could tell. Hurrying over, careful not to trip over the threatening tree root sticking out of the ground, she gratefully took hold of them, and fished out the detatched leg quickly. Squinting, she brought both pieces closer to her eyes, so she could see better. "Just my luck, I lost the little screw!" Shrugging her shoulders, she just held onto the glasses in her hand, rather than try to squease them into her jeans and shatter them for good. "No worries, I have more back in the dorm. Thanks!" Looking back up to the sky, she noticed it was still bright out, and getting hotter by the second. Her hair wasn't exactly making it any cooler for her neck, either. Slipping the glasses into her mouth and holding it by her teeth, Heidi used one of the elastic bands around her wrist to collect the wild lion mane into one ponytail. It was messy, and strands were still loose as they framed the sides of her face, but she didn't care so much. It was hot, and Heidi was not about to sacrifice herself out here.
Then, with a grin, she added, "Well, not unpacked. I kind of just dumped my bags into the dorm room by the first empty bed I saw, and high-tailed it outta there. I'll go back later today, when there's actually someone in there to talk with to put my stuff away." Which was kind of the whole reason she was outside to begin with. She hated being alone more than she hated the dark, and needed to be in the company of other people. It was part of that stupid collie gene she was still trying to work with. She hooked her thumbs through the belt loops of her jeans, then, and jerked her chin out to Luke. "So how do you like it here, what are the people like? What're you majoring in?" Oh questions questions questions.

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
Luke nodded slightly. They really didn’t want the possibility of someone finding out their secret. But there was always that risk. They couldn’t live on the island forever. Once they graduated, then what? It was bad enough that the first shifting process was unpredictable. You never knew when it would start and where they would be at. There was a chance that the adults could get caught, but that was somewhat the point of the school. They needed discipline before they could leave back to society with their shifts. “I guess for safety reasons. The nearest place to ‘regular society’ is another island. Nobody there can shift. Supposedly we’re allowed to visit, but we can’t tell anybody about our secret.”
That also got him to thinking about what would happen if someone found out. They were trapped on an island. Those that could fly or swim would have a chance at getting away. Those like him and Heidi –land animals- didn’t really stand a chance if they were caught. Even though Jaguars were fond of water, there was nowhere close enough that he would have been able to swim to.
“I don’t think I’ve seen a place for a doctor around here.” There she was, teasing him again about steroids. It probably didn’t mean much, but he was still curious as to why he hadn’t seen one. Then again, even in the grade he was in, he probably hadn’t been everywhere on the island. He liked going back to certain places he had been before, such as the forest. Just as he had predicted, she had misinterpreted the meaning of his laughing. But that was understandable since he had laughed after she showed him her glasses. Or what she had found anyways. It disappeared when she happily accepted the part that he had found. Which was not enough, because the screw was missing as well. ”Sorry, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to find the screw.”
Luke grinned, pushing his hands into his pockets. ”Right, I forgot all about the million glasses you have.” Well, a million was exaggerating. But she really did have a lot. More than anybody else he had ever known. At least she didn’t collect as many shoes. That he knew of at least. Shoes seemed to be a lot of girls weak points for some reason. With the ones that he knew. He didn’t know what was up with that, though. He laughed and shook his head at her. “Always the really social one. It’s so bad you can’t even unpack by yourself, without having someone there to talk to,” he teased.
He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the path that he had been on and then let go. He gestured with his head, towards the path and started walking that way. It was probably the one that lead to a dead end in the middle, for no apparent reason. He had never made it to the dead end, because he usually either ended up off the path or turning around and heading back before he reached it. He laughed as she started throwing questions at him and he held his hands up. “One at a time.”
Besides, she would have to answer some for him as well. “First, I guess its okay here. I wish we could visit other places besides the other island. After all, you know I’m into travelling.” He had never been able to travel as much as he wanted to, though, or to the places he had wanted to go. “Like any other place, the people are nice, but there are some bullies around. They use their animal to their advantage, I guess.” Not everyone had vicious animals that could take on others, though. But people didn’t expect much from them. One minute they look harmless and the next, they’re vicious creatures fighting back. “I’m majoring in Environmental Design. What about you? Something to do with music, I’m sure.” Environmental Design was just a much longer word for Architecture.

Heidi arched a brow. "Safety reasons?" Oh, yeah. She'd almost forgotten about that tiny detail about not being able to tell anyone anything about their.. kind. "..Oh." It was actually rather frustrating, and sensible at the same time. Most people would probably geek out if word got loose about what they were, and. Well. Heidi wouldn't want to be there for the after math. "No doctor?" This kind of troubled her a little bit, no lie. Suppose she broke an ankle or.. Some rouge rhino decided to play tag football with her while she wasn't looking or something equally painful like that. ..Were there elephants around that could squash her?! "Well that's a bummer! I'm not a fan of doc's anyways but... still, knowing there's a bandaid I can get to kind of eases the nerves a little."
Rethinking about the rhino that she was sure was around, Heidi gave a nervous glance to her left and right, checking to make sure one wasn't going to come charging at her from the woods or something. After a moment, though, she laughed at herself. This is rediculous, she scolded herself, and was allowed to be tugged along back on the path that they'd managed to stray off of. With her pony tail bouncing along behind her, and glasses still captive in her grip, Heidi shoved her tongue out at Luke for his teasing, though she probably deserved it. It -was- a little unnecessary to have so many glasses, some that she still had yet to wear. But what could she say? They were just so addicting to get a hold of, and it couldn't be helped.
"Actually, a million and one, smart ass." laughing again, she thought about what he said about her inability to even unpack. "Yeah... okay, I'll admit. It is a -little- pathetic but, hey. It beats being a sad little loner with no one to sit at lunch with, study with, or hang out around. Guess I'm just needy in my own ways, huh?" The mere thought of being 'that loner kid' sent a shiver down her spine and a cringe. Ick. If Heidi ever wound up like that, she'd need some serious therapy. ASAP.
The forest was actually a little welcoming, despite the emptiness around it. There wasn't anyone around - that she could tell, curse these animal form things - but the silence was kind of nice. Which was strange for Heidi to recognize, considering she hated solitude. The overhanging trees loomed over the pathway that the duo walked, casting mysterious looking shadows and providing much appreciated shade whenever she walked in and out of one into another. A happy sigh left her lips as she gave a little twirl while they walked, blissful of the fact that they were outside. She loved the outdoors.
"Ew, bullies. I don't think a collie could take on the big guys, but you might be able to!" she joked with a chortle, elbowing him in the ribs for good measure. Even if she tried, Heidi wasn't much of a fighter when it came to things like that. Self defense was a whole different story, however. But when it came to actually picking on people and just being plain mean.. nope. Not her cup of soup. Leave it to the jerks, she figured. "Do I even want to know what sort of trouble you've gotten yourself into while you've been here?" Of course she wanted to know -- Luke's stories were always interestingly different when he shared with her what sorts of mischief he'd been up to. Well, when he used to visit, that is. Now that he was here in this grand ol' school, Heidi wasn't sure if that aspect of him had changed at all or not; she hoped not.
"Ohh, Environmental Design, huh?" a long, low whistle cut through the air as she shook her head, pretty impressed. "Man, sounds like someone's aiming pretty high on the career list. Good for you! Remind me to get you a lego set or something for your birthday," a grin, then. She couldn't help it. "And yeah, you guessed right. Instrumental stuff and whatnot." A shrug of her shoulders as she tipped her head back, looking up into the sky as they walked along, kicking stones here and there. "Although.. I signed up for some voice classes so.. who knows how those are going to go."

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
Luke looked over at her and laughed. She could be so forgetful sometimes. It almost worried him. Was he going to have to cover for them if she accidentally let it slip around someone? That would be hard to cover up, though. He caught the look on her face when he mentioned that he hadn’t seen a doctor around. There probably was one around. Or a surgeon or something. After all, one was probably needed for those kids that liked to fight. ”Well, just because I haven’t seen one around, doesn’t mean there isn’t. I’m sure there is.” He had seen a few fights at the school, and some of them didn’t look too good. They had to get patched up somewhere. No simple school nurse would be good enough for that.
”I’m a smart ass? See, I actually know you don’t have a million pairs. But you…well, you would probably believe that.” He gave her a playful shove off the path and kept walking. Her description of a “sad loner” actually fit him at times, but she probably didn’t know that. He didn’t think he should tell her, in case it embarrassed her that she had actually described him at certain times in his life. Minus the fact that he had never wanted a study partner anyways. He didn’t do as much studying as he should, and having a regular study partner would mean someone he constantly got annoyed at him for not studying. He didn’t think he needed someone like that.
”Which big guys?” he teased. ”Don’t worry, I’ll protect you if someone decides to pick on you.” Although he admitted –silently- that if it were a lion, there was a possible chance that he would lose. Then again, it wasn’t all about strength. He hadn’t seen a lion around that he knew of. Hopefully whoever can shift into one was, in fact, not a bully at all. He laughed and shrugged, when she asked about the kind of trouble he had gotten into. ”Not as much as you might think. None of it was anything too big.” A few pranks here and there. ”I caused a little bit of trouble in the library the other day and now I’m not allowed to go back for two weeks.” Luke hadn’t done it alone, but he didn’t think the librarian was suspicious of the girl that had been with him. He wasn’t about to give her up either. The library wasn’t all that important to him. He didn’t use it to read books and he didn’t use it to study.
“I guess you could say that. But I’ve always been interested in it, so I figured why not?” There weren’t as many people interested in it as he had thought there might be. At least, not interested enough in it for a full time career with it. There wasn’t as much architecture to look at on the island as he might would have liked, but at least they weren’t being made to build stuff out of wood and leaves to stay under. He smirked at the mention of the legos. ”I still have the set you gave me a few years ago. I tried to bring it, but my parents wouldn’t let me. They said I was too old to be playing with those anymore.” Even when they had said no, he had tried sneaking it out, but somehow they managed to get it before he left. Then he didn’t even notice until it was way too late. There was no such thing as being too old to play with legos. Well, that’s what he thought anyways.
She was a big music fan. Not just of listening to music, but of playing it too. He thought she was really good at it. He, on the other hand, would be lucky to be able to play any instrument at all. Maybe the drums, since he could just beat on them. But..it would sound horrible. ”Singing, huh? As long as you don’t make them go deaf, I think you’ll be fine,” he teased.

Luke's words weren't as convincing as she'd hoped that they would be about the whole doctor situation. He'd been here a while now, hadn't he? And still there weren't any signs of doctor-ness around? Still, rather than get herself all worked up over docotor could-be's, she just sighed and nodded, bobbing her head along as she made a mental note to never put herself in a situation where she'd need that kind of help in the first place. Doctor or no doctor, someone on this island had to have a stash of bandaids, right? She stumbled then slightly as the shove was given, knocking her off balance as she slightly strayed from the path they were walking. Laughing, she caught herself on a passing tree to keep herself from sprawling out on the ground like a laughing fool, and picked up her pace some to catch back up.
"Sheesh, looks like I'm dealing with my own bully right here!" she joked, careful to sidestep just out of arm's length away just incase he tried it again. Heidi rarely ever made the same mistake twice, lucky enough for her. She was generally quick on learning things, which was a useful tool to have when picking up new instruments and whatnot. She grinned at the idea of having someone to run to incase that.. rhino-fellow, or lady, decided to sprout it's self from her imagination and actually try to do something, but.. getting Luke in a situation that he didn't start didn't seem to sit well with her either. Finally, she shook her head. "Thanks, but, I can't expect you to babysit me all the time. Maybe I can trade them some sunglasses in exchange for keeping my face intact?" another short laugh was given before she took a quick sweep of the area they were walking in.
It was still pretty quiet outside, save for the occassional chirp and the crunch of the ground below their shoes. Heidi spotted a little stone that looked like it needed a good kick, and so she flipped it forward a bit onto the path, knocking it around like a mini soccer ball as they continued along. It kept her quite entertained, too, for a good amount of time. Until, that is, Luke filled her in on his latest library incident. Shocked, she froze mid-kick as she was preparing to take another swing at the rock, unsure if she should laugh or feel bad, she did a little combination of the two and made a mock gasp. "The library? Let me guess... You got into a rivetting conversation with the librarian over Romeo and Juliet, that turned into a terrible disagreement, and rather than be shown up in her own library, she kicked you out to save face?" My, my. What an imagination she had. Heidi half figured Luke wasn't really 'broken up' about not being able to go back there for some time, judging by his tone. Man, there was only one person she knew that could manage to get themselves actually -banned- from a library.. And that person was currently still walking up ahead. Deciding she'd rather not get left behind, Heidi started walking again as a slight pout crossed her face.
"They didn't let you take the legos? What a bust.. Maybe we can get'cha some new ones off of that other little island you were talking about?" The girl was quite curious about this other place, and couldn't help but wonder if they had a mall or some restaurants with some of her favorite foods over there or something. Anything to remind her of home was greatly appreciated. Ignoring his remark about her singing quality, she waltzed up behind him after finally catching back up, and playfully jabbed at his back with her hand that wasn't holding onto her crippled glasses. If she said so herself, she made a pretty decent Mike Tyson double. Only, y'know, with ten times as less pain that he inflicted on others. Her jabs were only hard enough to pat his back with a light thud before she pulled back, only to repeat the process again. Man this path was long. "So.. where does this lead, exactly? Some secret hideout? Behind the school? A pond? Feels like we've been walking for days.."

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
He was wondering if she was going to worry herself over the fact that he hadn’t seen a doctor around now. It was also more comforting knowing that there was a doctor around at least, and there probably was one. Maybe he should have lied and said he had seen plenty on the island, but that hadn’t occurred to him before he had started blurting things out. ”I’m not a bully.” Of course he was going to disagree. Why would he want to admit to being one? Which he wasn’t. Not around her at least. ”Even if I was, at least I know when to quit.” He watched as she retreated out of arms reach so that he couldn’t push her again. Luke shrugged his shoulders when she didn’t take him up on his offer to watch over her.
”You know, now that you said you don’t need me to ‘babysit’ you, that is probably what’s going to happen. You probably jinxed yourself.” He smirked as he thought about her negotiating with someone trying to beat her up. She did have enough sunglasses to negotiate with. If it was a guy, though, they probably wouldn’t be very interested in them. ”I don’t think most guys would beat up someone as pretty as you,” he reassured her, kicking small rocks and other things along the path every now and then as he came across them. Unless she really annoyed someone and that was possible with her. Or maybe that was just him.
”Why didn’t I think of that?”He should have made her feel like an idiot by disagreeing with her over Romeo and Juliet. ”It was nothing like that. It’s a long story, but I was having another argument with my parents pretty much. I somehow ended up in the library after the argument.”That turned out to be the reason his phone had been smashed into pieces and how he had ended up with Rin’s phone instead. All-in-all, it had turned out to be a terrible night. And he had only just met that girl that night too. It still bothered him that he had become “attached” to her like that in that short amount of time. He was pretty sure it wasn’t a weird love interest or stalker type of thing at least. His eyes actually lit up at the sound of him buying more legos. There was something else he hadn’t thought of. ”I’m sure there are legos in the mall on this island, but it would be nice to go to the other island too.” He hadn’t been there much and it really didn’t have anything to do with not being able to shift in public or tell their secret.
He picked up a pine cone as she poked him in the back and turned around to throw it at her. Before he could even tell if it hit her or not, he turned back around and kept walking. ”The forest can lead to all kinds of things, but this path I think leads to a dead end. I’ve never been to the end of it, so I don’t know where it actually goes.” He spun around, picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder. She really didn’t weigh that much at all. For some reason she never had, but he wasn’t going to complain. ”I hope you don’t plan on treating people like you treat me. They might just pick on you for it,” he teased, turning back around and walking. Even he knew he couldn’t carry her the whole way, but if it got her to stop poking him, he would at least part of the way.

Heidi rolled her eyes some as he continued on about the bully situation. Sure, she knew he wasn't a bully. But the nickname seemed to fit appropriately for the moment. Smirking, she brushed back her bangs with her other not-so-free hand out of her eyes, "If I jinxed myself, then by all means Luke, you have first dibs on 'I told you so'. Sound fair?" Deciding to put the bully situation behind her, she had to admit. Not everyone here was hellbent on knocking people down and taking advantage of those smaller than others, she was sure. Afterall, most of them had probably come from a normal, average highschool before being transferred here. And in her experience, she'd yet to fall victim to any bullies at her old school. Why should it be a problem now? Still, she figured she might lay off the joking and teasing until she got to know people a bit better around here.
Just in case.
Her smirk subsided into a smile, then, as the compliment was given. No obvious signs of his sarcasm was around, from what she could tell, so Heidi figured he was being honest. In his own way, she guessed. "D'aww! Well, thank you." Personally, Heidi wasn't very fond of her own physical features; save for her hair. She disagreed with him silently with an intense burning, but the comment was something nice, and one she didn't hear often back home. Rather than turn it into an awkward situation, Heidi slid one last joke in. "Knowing my luck, I'd manage to run into all the gay ones, and then they won't care." A momentary giggle left her lips as she thought about this a moment, the cartoon playing out in her mind. Yeah, that'd be her luck.
She quieted down, then, as he somewhat explained the situation that went down in the library. She was curious, naturally, but wouldn't press the subject if he wasn't going to open up about it. T'wasn't her business anyways. Then, her head nodded at the mention of his parents and the arguement that they seemed to have. Hmm. Sounded like family matters to her, however far from the truth that might've been. Pushing the jokes and games aside, Heidi momentarily stopped her 'abuse' to his back, "Oh.. man, I'm sorry to hear that, L- Hey!" she screamed, after being pelted in the shoulder by a.. a pine cone?! Grumbling, she rubbed at her sore shoulder with the other hand, the sting not really as bad as her mind toyed it out to be. Still, her palm ground into the muscle that was just under 'attack' in attempts to soothe and massage it.
Before she even had a chance to bend down and pick up the pine cone herself (and maybe a small rock or two if they just so 'happened' to land in her hand) to return fire, she'd been whipped around and slung over her comrade's shoulder like a stuffed animal won at the carnival or something. Pouting, Heidi started to fidget and squirm as she tried to lower herself back down on the ground, safe and sound. Not wanting to hurt him, though, or herself should they end up falling over, she stopped after enough time had passed and resorted to plan two. "C'mon, man, put me down," she whined, forming the words in her head carefully. "Promise I won't punch you in the back anymore? Scouts honor!" Then again, Heidi had never been in Girl Scouts, or any variation there of. She did find the cookies sinfully delicious though -- who didn't?
Figuring Luke would be able to see through that in an instant, and her nagging inability to tell an efficient lie considering she hated liars, Heidi had to think of something else. "Okay okay, if you put me down, I swear I won't crack another joke on you for a bit today, fair enough?" And incase that didn't work.. "And.. I won't throw any of these rocks at you once you set me back down, Mr. Macho." Figuring that was an offer not to be passed up, Heidi counted the seconds patiently in her head, tapping her finger lightly on his back as she waited. And waited. And waited.
Her brow arched then as she hung there, slightly upside down over his shoulder as he briefly explained the route they were headed. "A dead end, huh?" she chewed this idea over in her mind a moment before craning her neck up some to watch the trail as it disappeared behind them with every step Luke took. Getting a bit nervous, she looked over her shoulder at the back of his head, thinking things over. "Since you've never been down this path before.. You still know where we're going, right..? We won't get lost?"

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
Luke wasn’t surprised in the least bit when she said he could have first dibs on saying “I told you so.” It was just like her to try and make it seem like she was doing him a privilege, especially by giving him permission to say or do something. ”Sure, that sounds fair. Except who else would have first dibs on saying it?” There wasn’t anybody else around that could say it, and she wouldn’t be saying it to herself. There was also a good chance that he would have said it even without her permission. The rest of the time she either gave him permission when he didn’t ask for it or he purposely let her give it just to make her feel better. He smirked as she accepted his compliment. He didn’t give them very often, but just because he didn’t say it, didn’t mean it wasn’t true. ”That probably would be your luck,” he said laughing. Most of the gay people he had seen appeared to be nice for the most part, though.
”Wouldn’t that be a good thing, though? I mean gay guys are more likely to wear your feminine sunglasses than a straight guy is.” That’s what he thought anyways. Unless they were a straight guy that liked to wear just about anything or a straight guy with absolutely no idea what guys should or shouldn’t wear. Luke wore a diversity of clothes, but even he knew where to draw a line. Most people couldn’t tell he was bi at all, unless he told them. But unlike most bisexuals that he had met, he actually preferred girls over guys. He was pretty much unaware of what she was going to say before he threw a pine cone at her, or even at the fact that she had been planning on returning the favor when he threw her over his shoulder. ”No,” he said abruptly when she told him to put her down. ”Were you ever even a girl scout?” He couldn’t actually picture her as one, unless she was really young at the time.
Luke laughed at her attempt to bribe him into putting her down. He wasn’t even sure she could keep her first promise. Most of their conversations had to do with them teasing one another. ”You honestly think you can go a few hours without making a joke about me?” Not that her jokes actually bothered him. He made plenty in return to make up for them all, so they were pretty much even. He laughed against and shrugged. ”So when you first started trying to bribe me, you were thinking about throwing rocks at me when I did put you down?” Well that wasn’t very nice. He could feel her fingers on his back while she waited for him to answer, but he continued to consider it until she began talking again. Luke laughed. ”Well first off, we’re on a path. So it’s not likely we’re going to get lost. Second, we can shift, so I’m sure we could find our way back if we did somehow get lost.”
They could sniff their way back to civilization or something. He finally stopped and turned around to look at the way they came. They had definitely been walking longer than he thought it seemed. He wrapped his arms around her and lowered her back to the ground before releasing her. ”You don’t have to stop with the jokes, but you might regret it if you keep trying to beat me up,” he teased. He continued walking for a few minutes until he was tired of looking at practically the same stuff over and over. ”Okay, we can’t stay on this path. Pick a direction.”

She was in quite a situation indeed. Hoisted above the ground -against her will, she might add- and unable to get down, Heidi was pretty much stuck with where ever her captor decided to go. Luckily for her, he still kept to the rediculously long path, or at least from what she could tell, and wasn't running around haphazard-like or purposely running into trees or something. Luke was many things, but a jerk wasn't one of them. Well, the Luke she knew six months back wasn't. She doubted he'd changed too much in that time frame, though. Or rather, hoped.
Smirking as he saw through her little sham, Heidi gave a make shift shrug on his back in reply. "Oh, I don't know... Maybe that inch worm down there is actually a student, so they could actually beat you to it if you aren't careful. Ah! Let's not forgot that slug by the rock back there, or maybe even the rock it's self!" Okay, sure, she was getting carried away a little bit. This was a school for animal shape shifters, not... sticks, trees, and stones. Otherwise that one stone she'd been kicking around earlier would be one angry person.
A flood of different emotions raided her body as he called her glasses 'feminine'. And she couldn't stop herself from frowning lightly, not that he could see it anyways. "I'll have you know.. My glasses are stylish, not feminine. I'm sure everyone here at this school, gay or straight or anywhere inbetween, will find a pair that I have with me appealing." she beamed at this thought, far from willing to pass out every pair of shades she had but quite certain in her guess. "Even you, if you ever check 'em out sometime. Granted you'll have to -put me down- first.." came the mumble at the end while her voice trailed off. Man. She'd have to resort to other ways of getting down if he didn't let up soon.
...Drat. So he did pick up on her girl scout fib. "If you count being a loyal annual cookie customer, then yes." Heidi hoped that this would still manage to squeeze under being able to call the whole 'scout's honor' thing without technically having joined them. Regardless, it didn't look like he was setting her down any time soon, over that comment, so, it was on to the next one. Her tongue shoved out once again at the back of his head as he laughed at her offer to not crack any jokes on him for the next few hours. It momentarily crossed her mind to give him a good whack to the head but, fearful he might sling her body into the nearest tree branch out of anger... that thought was quickly and quietly disposed of. "I'm hurt you think I couldn't do it! I'll make a bet with you that says I can."
Finally let down, she wobbled some while her legs got her barings, but it only took a couple of seconds. Smiling as her feet were finally flat against the ground once again, she gave a happy little sigh as she rocked back and forth slightly from heel to toe, fingers locked behind her back as she stuffed her sunglasses into her pocket listening silently to him. "Mm.. let's go.." she pondered a minute, gaze shifting from the trees and and various bushes. Either direction seemed to promise impending doom to her as they strayed off of the path but, he was right. They couldn't walk this way forever. Why not a little exploring? "That way!" Heidi pointed finally, seemingly east judging by the direction of the sun. She took a triumphant step forward in the direction, marching through to the woods and off of the beaten path. Shoes crunched lightly on the fallen twigs, but she didn't slow down or jump or anything. Outside (and on the ground) Heidi was in her element, and bugs and things of the like didn't creep her out like most girls she knew.
Walking on in a slight zig-zag, she easily cut around trees and moved with a more fluid like motion, something almost similiar to the properties of water. "And I'll cut another deal with you," she smiled, hooking her chin over her shoulder to look back at Luke, double checking to see if she had lost him. "When and if we change into these.. animal things to go back," Heidi was still far from being used to the idea of it all, "I think I could beat you in a race." A pause, then, as she looked back ahead of her to climb over a dusty, rotting fallen log. Landing on the other side, she nodded then as if to herself, dusting her hands off on her legs as she gave a smug grin. "Infact, I'm sure of it!"

* LUKE ( OLIVER ) BOWERS ,
”I don’t think that inch worm or that slug heard of any of conversation back there.” As a matter of fact, there probably wasn’t even an inch worm or a slug around them right that moment. She had probably just made it up. ” A rock? People don’t shift into rocks. They shift into animals.” Shifting into a rock would be pretty useless. The only good that would come out of it was using it as a disguise if you were somewhere you shouldn’t be. But you definitely wouldn’t be able to see or hear anything, so how would you ever know if the person had left or not? Luke shook his head to clear the thoughts. His mind always ran off with other thoughts. Usually little things and it was very annoying at times. ”That would be weird if there was actually a school for people to shift into rocks and trees and other stuff. Then again, regular people think it’s impossible for people to shift into animals.”
But they wouldn’t know about it. That’s why it would be secret, just like theirs. Although if he had to choose between the two abilities, he would definitely take shifting into an animal over that. He shook his head when she tried to convince him that her sunglasses were stylish, not feminine. ”I’m sure they would. You have so many that the odds of someone finding one they liked are pretty good. But then you would have to make sure nobody tried to steal them from you.” He had already seen a lot of them from before, but finally got bored of looking through them after awhile. That was how many she had. Well she could think whatever she wanted. She was really stubborn about them, so he pretty much already knew that no matter what he said about them, she wasn’t going to believe it.
She would probably have a comeback for anything he said against them. After he put her down, he continued to wait on her to make up her mind about which way to go. Turning around and following the path were both out of the options he was giving, but luckily she didn’t choose either. Heidi led the way in the direction she had finally pointed and he followed behind. It took them straight through the trees. Hopefully that wasn’t the only thing in the forest, though. Even just a small open space would be much better than complete trees covering every little spot. Luke laughed as she cut him another deal. She was like the deal monster around him. ”You think you can beat me out of here? Just a minute ago you were afraid that we would get lost, and back there we were actually on a path.”
