Likes:

• Animals – He always liked animals, even before he knew he could shift into one. They also seem to like him a lot too.
  
• Ice cream - He’s not picky about the kind of ice cream. He really likes the different types of flavors.
  
• Books - The fascination probably comes from his brother, Jayden’s own fascination with them. He was read to a lot when he was younger.
  
• Family –Icarus thinks that family is the best. That is..if you have a good family, which he did. His whole family was close in one form or another.
  
• Friends – This would probably be second best. Everybody needs at least one friend.
  
• Shelter – When sleeping, he prefers a smaller place that he can be in, especially for sleeping.
  
• Sign language – Well, he didn’t have much choice in learning it. It was the most effective way to talk to his brother, Jayden since he was mute. But Icarus never saw it as a chore. He secretly thinks its fun.
  
• Fruit – What more is there to say? It tastes great.

Dislikes:

• Being away from his family, especially Jayden.
  
• Not being able to build nests. – He shifts sometimes just to find a nest to hide in, but he has to find one, because he can’t make them himself.

• People who pick on his brother for being mute.
  
• Being weak. – Flying squirrels are prey to a lot of animals and have to constantly be alert.
  
• Know-it-alls – Nobody knows everything!
  
• Hunters.
  
• People who steal stuff from him.
  
• Being hungry.
  
• Having to hide his shifting ability from humans.
  

Fears:

• Losing family or friends. – There’s a reason they’re his friends – because he likes them. So obviously he wouldn’t want to lose them. His family is very important to him. They’re the people he’s closest to in the world. He would never know what to do without them.
  
• Being eaten while in animal form. – How would anybody ever know what had happened to him?
  
• Humans finding out about their abilities to shift.
  

Strengths: (At least 3)

• His Breakaway tail in animal form – As disgusting or painful as it may seem, in his squirrel form he has a breakaway tail. If he were being chased and they bit his tail, he still has a chance to get away. Convenient, right?
  
• Icarus has a very alert personality. It carries over from his animal form, as they have to be really alert to keep from getting eaten by something.
  
• Highly developed sense of smell – another trait carried from a flying squirrel.
  
• Gliding – It actually conserves his energy!
  
• Being small.
  

Weaknesses:

• Territorial – It’s a bad habit of a flying squirrel, especially full grown. His parents helped him to keep this from getting a really bad habit.
  
• Being small. – While it is a strength it’s also bad when he’s outside, because there are so many things that can eat him.
  
• His caring personality. – If someone threatened someone else, he would probably do whatever it took to keep them from getting hurt.

Icarus is a fun-loving person. He gets excited over a lot of stuff and loves to play games. He doesn’t want to be seen as the kid who never shuts up, so controls himself as far as that goes. Because he’s really playful, people don’t always see him as the type of person to go to if they need to talk. Since he doesn’t have much experience in this area, he often doesn’t know what to do when someone actually does go to him. But despite this weakness, he’s a very understanding and caring person. Also, as proof of his loving “nature,” he loves giving hugs. Usually they’re for his family, but he happily will give them to his friends – guys or girls. Icarus absolutely does not understand why someone might take it the wrong way for him to hug a guy. It possibly has to do with his brother, Jayden being bi, but he doesn’t understand why people consider it wrong. In this way, he’s very open-minded.

He’s also loyal to both friends and family, although his family always comes before anybody else. Family is the most important thing to him in the world, so he’s developed a slight protective trait over them. That’s another thing he has to continually work on, to keep from smothering them. He’s a responsible person when he wants to be. Icarus doesn’t mind lying every now and then to keep himself out of trouble, even though it doesn’t always work. Furthermore, he finds it harder to lie to his family, even if it’s something small.

Icarus also likes to read fiction and sci-fi. He likes the made up world and imagining what it would be like to live in it. Not that there’s anything wrong with his life of course. He can also be a hard worker when he sets his mind to it. If he studies, he can remember a lot of stuff, but he’s often jealous of Jayden’s photographic memory. Something like that would be really useful and he wouldn’t have to waste his time on studying so much.

The only time Icarus ever really gets mad, is when someone messes with his family or friends. Other than that, it usually takes a lot more to make him mad. He considers it a family trait. He also loves attention and making people happy. He doesn’t have to be the center of attention, but he doesn’t like it when people ignore him. It makes him feel left out, which he really hates.

For the most part Icarus has the looks of a fourteen year old boy. In contrast, he thinks his looks fit his personality. A lot of people look at him and can guess what type of person he really is. Icarus’ hair is generally a brown color, but he dyes it black often, because he likes the way it looks, and he rarely cuts it short. His eyes are a dark brown to match. His skin is usually tan from being outside so much, but can generally be white, especially in the winter. He doesn’t have piercings or tattoos, since he’s not fond of either. However, sometimes he thinks that having one or the other might make him look his age. Most people either think he looks younger, or at least sixteen. They also claim he still has a baby face, which does help with his age a bit.

His body is healthy, but by no means is he muscular. He likes to run, swim, and do other sports, which keep him in shape. But usually he doesn’t work out, unless he just feels he needs to. He also doesn’t think he’s very skinny. He isn’t the type to think that’s he’s fat, when he’s actually skinny, but he isn’t where people would think he doesn’t eat – that wouldn’t be true.

Icarus doesn’t think there’s anything unique to his clothing. He likes to wear button downs, regular t-shirts, and different types of jeans. Sometimes he wears skinny jeans, but usually one that fits just right. He doesn’t like them baggy at all, and wouldn’t likely be caught wearing any like that. He likes to wear hats, but isn’t obsessed with them. Another thing he is seen wearing are watches, wrist bands, various necklaces, and at times sunglasses. His shoes are no different: sometimes sneakers and sometimes dress shoes.

In his flying squirrel form, he is much smaller. A flying squirrels appearance is so similar to a regular squirrel, that they’re often mistaken for them. His head, back, and the topside of his tail are a mix color of browns and blacks. His stomach and the underside of his tail are a mix of white and small spots of an orangeish-brown color. The tail is nearly the same length of his body when he’s shifted, if not a little longer. His eyes are big and black compared to the size of his body. They’re almost too big for his size. His ears are covered up brownish-black and a pink hue on the inside.[/size]

Icarus was born into a fairly big family. There was his parents, Nathaniel and Antonia , Annabelle and Naomi, his older sisters, and then Jayden, his older brother. Well, not to mention Tristan, who turned out to be his twin. If he had been able to think when he was born, he probably would have said something like “Oh boy, this is going to be a rough childhood.” But if he had been able to do that, he would have been wrong. Even as a baby, he was playful and very friendly with all of his siblings. He took up with them very easily. If he had thought his family was big then, it got bigger two years later. Another girl was added to the household. A sister, Blossom.

As he got older, he found it was no surprise that he got along with them. His whole family was close. The older he got, the more he realized that he hadn’t seen anybody else as close as they were. As far as he knew, they didn’t keep secrets from each other. He had none to keep from his family. Least of all, they were open about the genetic ability to shift. His family shifted in front of him, and even though they had to take off their clothes to do it, he had never found it strange. It was so common for him to see them do it. That was probably the reason he had been lectured on how wrong it was to watch anybody else shift if they were taking their clothes off.
During the years they continued to grow closer. Any arguments they had were small and easily brushed off. He never held any grudges against any of them. Even when he witnessed Jay’s first shift as an otter and his attack on their little sister. He had wanted to help her, to keep her from getting hurt, but there wasn’t much he could do at his age. His sister’s had rushed in to protect her, especially since she was younger and unable to even shift yet. They had, of course, made up and Blossom went on as if nothing had even happened in the first place. That was about how all of their small arguments or disagreements went. They usually ended up apologizing in the end anyways.

Icarus’ first shift had been less dangerous than that of his brother, Jay. He had been outside, working on his tree house as usual. It had been a slow process, because he had mostly wanted to build it on. That way when he claimed he did all the work, he wouldn’t have been lying about it. Sadly, the shift had started while he was still climbing, which he caused him to fall back to the ground. Luckily he had only started climbing, so it didn’t do any damage. The first thing he had noticed, was his bones shifting, particularly in his face, and then moving downward. His body began to shrink little by little as his own body parts began changing into that of an animal.

Fur began sprouting from his skin as he continued to shrink. He felt like he wasn’t ever going to stop shrinking. A tail had seemed to sprout from his body towards the end of the transformation. He was fairly calm about the shifting, since he had known about it most of his life. But he was still nervous about it. The pain he hadn’t been expecting. That wasn’t something that had ever occurred to him before. His animal mind was nervous. Without having much control, he rapidly began climbing up the tree into a pre-dug hole in the tree. That’s where he stayed for a good while, before finally climbing out. When he had finally shifted back, and of course put some clothes on, he shared the news with everyone. Although his guess was that he had shifted into a squirrel, he wasn’t sure. So he was made to shift again so they could figure out exactly. Turns out he was a flying squirrel. Who knew.
