The day was pleasantly warm, with fluffy clouds in the sky. Birds chirped high in the trees, people milled happily around the campus and enjoyed the good weather. It was, as some would say, a perfect, almost picture perfect, day. But Rose wasn't content. It just seemed empty. Just like a beautiful picture of a model can be admired, but there is no substance to it. If she was to go outside, she could walk around, or sit in the shade and contemplate life, or go down to the beach and let the tide temporarily wash her cares away with the sand she would stand in. But none of that sounded appealing, because after she'd do it, she wouldn't feel any sense of accomplishment, like she had done something worthwhile.
So she sat by the window in her dorm, looking over the whole scene. Her fingers drummed against the windowsill, her lips pursed in thought. After classes, she had come back to read, try homework. But that gets old as fast as an overplayed radio song. So that lead the the predicament she was now found in. Suddenly, she felt the throbbing inside her, the same place she feels before she wants to shift. Rose quickly got up and walked out the door. She was not in the mood for that.
But as she walked out, Rose realized she would have to choose. She couldn't just wander around. Well, she could, but that wouldn't be very fun. But as she walked away from her dorm, she found herself doing just that: wandering. She couldn't help it, because she hadn't figured out a place to go, so how could she purposely walk without a purpose? Not possible, unless you were in Wonderland. Rose realized she was walking quickly, as if she really had to be somewhere. She slowed her pace, allowing her to try the 'I'm doing nothing and I like it' state. Rose watched the people around her, light entertainment on a bored day. As she scanned, her eyes fell on a glass building: the Greenhouse.
Rose decided to wander over there. The door was open, as always. As she walked in, all the noise from the outside vanished. It was like a different world. There was a single person in the far corner, but besides that, she was alone. She suddenly felt warmth in her heart as she looked at all the plants, blooming happily in a confined space. They didn't know what the wild was like. But what do they care? They're plants, and as long as they have light and water, nothing really phases them. She walked slowly along the rows, lightly running her hands over the flowers, watching as they bounced back into place after her touch. At the end of the first row, Rose saw an empty bench and sat down in it, just looking at the calm beauty before her. Was this really on the same campus?

ever since she'd found out she had a roommate, denae was everywhere BUT in her dorm room. it wasn't that there wasn't enough space or that her roommate was mean. it was the simple fact that someone else was in her space, in her room. hers. the tiger within her rumbled its animosity quite blatantly as denae traversed from her first day at school to her room, she felt the weight grow on her shoulders. she could control her temper, yes, and she could control her true form, her true personality... the what happened when one didn't want to fight their real nature? what happened to a shifter when their human part, supposedly reasonable, reacted to a situation just as their animal would? the question was posed and denae seriously thought about asking the big man on campus if there was any way she could get a room to herself. but the bigger part of her wanted the challenge. tiger were especially solitary creatures who only met together to mate, and not even that companionship lasted long.
however, the large beast within denae had learned to love the accompaniment of others. other tigers. and she had no idea what rose was. what if she was a....dog. denae was happy she was by herself because the thought ran through her mind unbidded and suddenly a vehement snarl boiled out of her throat, denae's eyes flashing gold simultaneously. she snapped her back to the wall, her body pressed flat against it and her hand slapped over her mouth. in a voice that bordered a squeal, denae cursed repetitiously, "shit! shit! shit! shit! SHIT!" the predator within her called for release, the emotions boiling over. denae had to calm herself before she worked up a red haze. and by golly, those were never good. easing herself enough to stand away from the wall, she exhaled and then suddenly bolted towards the nearest exit. she was in a flat out run, her petite body flying across the ground.
go where?! denae's body was already carrying tiger features. denae had sprouted a tail about a meter long, her eyes had become golden in color with slitted pupils, and her speed was increasing dramatically. she was approaching a sprint of 40 mph when she ended up in front of the door to the greenhouse, which was vacated. she basically launched herself in the glass building and slammed the door behind her, chest heaving, eyes wild. "what in the world is wrong with me?!" the tiger wanted out. denae wanted to be the tiger. because the tiger was actually denae. denae was really a tiger just temporarily in human form. denae wanted to be the tiger... but in a place like this, a tiger was not welcome.
especially a siberian tiger with a body so massive it put most other shifters to shame. having her back to the door, denae looked around, and found that she was....calm again. and before she knew it, the tail was gone and so was her golden tiger's eyes. heaving a sigh of relief. denae went to the furthest corner and just sat, her brown eyes bright with curiosity. she'd always enjoyed flowers and as a young child, she'd been forced more than once to go weed the flowerbed. she'd done her share of gardening for anyone's life. and though they weren't her favorite thing...they did give her a deep sense of serenity and peace, something she had seemed to have left long behind her. she had seated herself in front of her favorite flower, which were, to no one's surprise, tiger lilies. and not the pink and white ones, but the rich orange ones. even sitting back in her chair, she could smell the beautiful natural perfume from the plant. that and every other odor in the greenhouse. perhaps that was what calmed her.
but then her space was invaded. the tiger, which had been lulled to rest by the peaceful sweetness of the vacant greenhouse, suddenly roared back to life and denae had to bite down to keep the tremulous growl that sat in the back of her vocal cords. she ignored the other girl. for a while. but then the tiger was becoming agitated. it was no longer defensive of the area it resided in, but curious of the occupant. denae's feet had a mind of their own as they led her too the taller girl. and then suddenly it hit her. this was her roommate. she could still smell her room on her flesh. denae suddenly stood straighter, and the mask of passiveness became her face, her brown eyes curious, but not intensely inquisitive. "do you come here to find some peace too?" it was a simple enough question, right?

Summer still hadn't toured the campus since the week or two that she had been here. As she walked out of her dorm, she headed towards the west part of the school. Stopping every once in awhile to view the scenery. As she passed by the cafeteria, which of course she had been to, she looked to see if anyone was there. Finding it empty, she walked inside and grabbed an apple. Even though she was a carnivore, she couldn't help but eat some fruit and veggies every once in a while. She figured it as because her dad would make her eat them every day.
Summer walked out of the cafe while biting into the apple. She loved the flavor of them. Coming to the concert hall, she opened the doors and looked inside. The stage was big, and perfect for dancing. Not being able to stop herself, she threw her apple in the trash outside and walked in. She plugged her iPod into the radio that was there. Putting it on the Step Up 2 soundtrack, she did a couple of the songs that she knew really well. Doing all the flips and pops that they did during the movie. But, unlike some it came extremely natural to her.
Feeling re-energized, she unplugged her iPod and walked into the sun once again. The sun hitting her shoulders and back. her hair was in the standard ponytail, and her tank-top was black. Her jeans were semi-skinny and her vans were black ad white. She skipped for a little while until she came to the library. She looked at it for a second before turning away and facing the flamingo lawns. They were just long enough, that the inner cheetah was calling out to her. Begging, pleading to be let free. She refused to let it come as she took a light jog. Her feet instantly going faster each second. Getting close to a speed that was not normal with humans, she let herself go. The inner cheetah screaming and growling to be let out. But, once again she refused.
As her feet started slowing down, she had come to a part of the campus that she had not looked at yet. Summer walked until she hit a room that said lounge. She opened the doors and looked around for a bit. She saw couches, tvs, and game consoles, along with a fridgein the back. Hoping there might be awater bottle back there, she walked to the back and opened it up. When she saw one, she grabbed it and did a litle fist pump. She hurridely opened it up and drank almost half of it. As she exited the the lounge, she saw a place with a bunch of plants. She walked over to the greenhouse looing in through the side.
Seeing some people in there, she walked in as the girl who was sitting down talked. Summer decided not to answer and thought best not to answer since she was probably reffering to the other girl. Summr turned down one of the aisles and started looking at all the flowers.

While embracing the temporary calm, Rose took a moment to just . . . mentally wander. It often happened with her, and she had gotten used to it. She knew which areas to avoid, which ones were safe to touch upon, and was somewhat intrigued by what lay ahead to discover. She absentmindedly stroked a nearby flower, enjoying the smooth, cool feeling that the petals gave. It chilled her thumb, but it didn't bother her. Rose hadn't realized how chilled it was in the greenhouse, compared to outside. If she had taken the time, she probably would have come up with some random explanation as to why that was, and then do something to see if she was right, and then smugly smile and be proud of her smarts. But she wasn't in the mood right now. She was feeling rather lazy, actually, and that was probably why her mind was wandering so much.
While wandering, her mind seemed to go out to the body. There was a warm spread throughout Rose's limbs, just something warming from the inside. Maybe a happy thought that she couldn't place. On her journey, she stopped at that one place. That one empty place hidden behind her heart, the place that had caused so much pain and turmoil, so much joy and exhilaration. The place that, when filled with heat, so much agonizing heat, caused her to shift. It was cold now. Nothing in her had the desire to shift anymore, that spurt of energy over.
With a snap, Rose was back in the present. Looking down at her hand, she saw that she had not only picked the flower, but she had crushed it in her hand. With wide eyes, she let it fall to the ground, not knowing what had made her do that. Her temporary peace was shattered when somebody started talking to her. She started, looking up quickly and almost started parting her lips, showing her teeth in a wolf-like defensive move--but she caught herself and kept her lips shut. It took her a moment to realize that she had been asked a question. Rose took a deep breath and pushed her hair out of her eyes, plastering a smile on her face. "Sometimes," she said simply, though it was a lie. She hardly ever came there at all, much less on purpose to calm down. Out of the corner of her eye, Rose spotted another girl wandering the isles. When had they both come in?

denae looked between this rose girl and the one that suddenly popped in without a single word. denae's gazed followed the shifter as she walked between the aisles. she smelled of...cat? this other was another cat. and this one was a...canid of some sort. denae was sure of this. it was probably due to the fact that she was quite in touch with her tiger.
