Mitchell was something of a strange language user. He tried to avoid phrases that were commonly used; they were annoying and almost always wrong. For the same reason he avoided stereotypes as much as he could. There were certain general traits that some, if not most, members of a particular group had in common but saying that just because they belong to that group they have those traits is ridiculous. ”I suppose that’s better. Not perfect but then getting a perfect phrase is pretty much impossible, there’s always an exception. Like the A-team. ‘I love it when a plan comes together’… what if it’s not their plan?” Mitchell did over-think things quite often. But it was better to do too much thinking than to do too little. Anyway, thinking into things was fun.
Mitchell stayed silent while his teacher spoke. He went off on his own rants so it was only fair that he allowed her to do the same. She made some interesting points. The question of whether he’d noticed that people’s skills and character traits determined their animal was a bit obvious though, it was the first thing almost anyone noticed, and if they didn’t notice they were told. Still, he suspected she was using it as an introduction to the rest of her topic. She did go on a bit though, almost like she forgot he was there for a bit.
When she stopped he waited a second before replying. The two had a sort of silent agreement, or so it seemed to Mitchell. They were constantly having mental battles of a sort, and so long as it was in the context of that, friendly insults were allowed by both of them. Mitchell didn’t plan on insulting Velma, just making things even. ”You do ramble from time to time, I hope you realise. “ He smiled quietly at his little return jab. It was just a bit of fun, he hoped Ms. Clarks was in the right mood to allow it. ”I have wondered about that. A life changing epiphany kind of circumstance or some Christmas Carol type situation being an extreme example. I don’t imagine the shift would change. The person behind it would. But I think the shift is something of a snapshot. Like what this person was at that point, not what they’re likely to be for the rest of their life. To be honest we have little idea of animal personalities. Not all animals of the same species are the same, and a shifter’s personality change could reflect that.” It was a tricky thing to think about, but Mitchell couldn’t see a person’s shift ever changing.
Mitchell had given some thought to this in the past. It was a really complicated topic once you got into it. It dug right into several very tough topics. It was like asking ‘what makes a person a person.’ And since there weren’t any people to observe it was quite hard to definitely prove. ”42… that’s what it is.” He said, hoping that his teacher knew what she was on about. ”And I think when your shift is decided, as it were, it’s a very fine line between many animals. The exact aspects of your personality probably have a great deal of impact on the decision. Of course not everyone shares every trait with their animal. Again; 42.” Mitchell wondered how many others had gone into this topic. He wondered if there were any shifters dedicated to finding out about it, dedicating their lives to figuring out what makes a shifter into their particular animal, and how it changes.
