Overall: [400 words minimum] Fidel is, in a word, fickle. Although he has a blatant distain for hypocrites and liars, he himself can never really hold to promises or be relied on. If one should bring attention to this his first reaction will be that of anger. When he feels wronged, he rarely forgets or forgives. He enjoys arguing and being fired up in general; his stubbornness in this area often gets on other people’s nerves. His first love is mischief making, of any sort and at any time. For him it serves as a way to stand out and avoid the danger of becoming something of a drone. His adrenaline needs often take him to great lengths in terms of trouble. He prides himself in the fact that he is rarely caught in the act or afterwards. When he is caught it is because of his bad habit to stay to see the administration or whoever should come across his work scratch their heads in total bewilderment. His favorite trick is to break in somewhere. Most of these traits come from the fact that he is a Raccoon. It has been noted that on two occasions he has tried to escape the island, but has not succeed so far.
Although he has few friends, Fidel really enjoys good company. He is quite the pest though, eventually his ego and temper result get to people. What he really hopes for is a romantic relationship. He believes that if he isn’t constantly looking out for his ‘love’ he’ll miss him/her. For this reason he is transparently bisexual. All of this stems from his irrational fear of being left alone; he craves human recognition and acceptance, and will go to most absurd lengths in order to obtain it. He doesn’t seem to care that his methods of attaining acknowledgment are often times dangerous. It is also important to note that although he acts tough in relationships, if treated right he can be quite acquiescent. This actually applies to all situations involving Fidel. Once one gets to know him, his rough edges soften considerably.
Fidel also has a love for the culinary arts- especially cooking and food arrangement design. He finds solace in a kitchen where everything can be hustling and chaos one moment but can be quiet and serene the very next. The ever-changing atmosphere and many moods of a kitchen have a sort of enchanting effect of Fidel . No matter what the atmosphere may be at any given time, Fidel Matangra has the mysterious ability to assimilate and work quickly and efficiently. This is also the only time he appears to calm down, take charge, and act his age. In all other classes he goofs off or simply fails to do as he’s told.
...appearance

Appearance: [400 words minimum]
Fidel is oddly pale, even he himself cannot come up with an explanation as to why this is. His dark hair is a compliment to his olive shaded eyes, but is not unusual considering his strong Greek/Latin heritage. He typically keeps his hair short and hidden beneath a hat because he doesn’t quite like how curly and unkempt it appears, he keeps it like that to cover his right ear, which has a tear in the cartilage. He has a very nice smile but curiously sharp canines. His hands are large and soft, they are quite skilled and always clean. Although he’s a bit lanky in appearance, he makes up for it by wearing baggy clothing. Although he is 5'10". His clothes are normally neutral colored and comfortable. Sometimes he fails to wash them. His favorite pants are a pair of worn blue jeans, he always has something tucked into them, commonly a bandanna or a mask just incase the need for one should arise. Underneath his shirt, he wears a dog tag necklace inscribed with the words ‘Don’t put me down’ as well as an address. Although this may just seem like a joke, it’s actually a plea to anyone who might capture him if he’s in raccoon form not to kill him.
As an animal, he is stocky and a light grayish brown in color. When frightened his fur puffs out. His head is triangular in shape and a bit lighter than the rest of his body. Around each green eye there is a section of black- something generally found in common raccoons such as himself- with a white fringe. His ears are also white and rounded one has a nick taken out of it from when he was tagged. His tail is what distinguishes him from other raccoons, it is tawny and mottled but only has two solid black stripes near its base and its tip is stark white. Although it is not a big difference, it can be recognizable. His paws are black and tipped with five needle sharp claws. These can cause some serious damage should he choose to use them. His teeth are very sharp when in his raccoon form. Mixed with his disposition and the natural aggression on the raccoon species plays a hand at making him ‘formidable for his small size’. The sharpness and longness of his claws make them ideal for picking locks, especially to get at food.

...history
Parents: Alcander and Paula Matangra
Siblings: none.
[400 words minimum]
Alcander was born in Greece and lived there until aged two. When his father was accidentally killed in a violent anarchist protest Alcander’s mother fled the country to America. In the US, young Alcander was taught English His mother worked to earn citizenship. The boy was taught to cook and keep a house by his mother because of the long absences she would often take. She would work early in the morning to very late at night. When Alcander graduated Highschool he decided to stay with his mother instead of pursue a college career. His mother and he were best friends. The only thing he didn’t know was that his mother had a secret, sometimes, when it was really late and nobody was around, his mother would change shape. Alcander lived and worked as a bartender until he met Paula.
Paula Gillik lived a simple life; her relationship was never all that good with her parents, but not awful either. At the first chance she got after college she moved away into the city to search for work. She was fortunate enough to receive a position as the city’s museum curator, but was often times indecisive about the non-work related. Often she would get asked out because, in truth, she was quite pretty. However she would often get too nervous and fail to show up at dates. Instead she would go to a bar and have a few drinks. She would always talk to a young man who worked there, tell him about her problems. He would always sit and listen like he truly cared. After a time they came to be very close as friends, and before Paula knew it, she had fallen in love with Alcander. Without her parent’s consent, she married him. Two years later, they had a baby boy who they named Fidel, meaning ‘Faithful’. When they were working, they would leave the child with Alcander’s mother. But they forbade her to teach the boy to speak Greek and about the country in general.
Alcander’s mother obeyed… for the most part. Alcander and Paula were very busy, sometimes walking in late and not even offering their child a second glance . While raising the child she told him stories of her country and of his father, she grew to love the child so much that when he was eight she told him her secret. About how sometimes she could change into an animal. Young Fidel was delighted by these stories and started sharing them with classmates. He was reprimanded harshly by first his school and his parents. His grandmother was no longer allowed to tell him stories. She made up for it though by teaching him how to cook. Fidel’s bad habit of attention-seeking developed every time his grandmother was absent. He was quite good at picking locks, and his grandma took notice. When he turned eleven his grandmother’s health began to rapidly deteriorate. She dies several months later, shockingly enough her final words were, “When he turns thirteen. Lock him in the basement.” Fidel fell into depression and was left to his own devices for the most part, his grades became bad and he would sometimes meander about looking for trouble. He ended up in alot of bad situations.
On the morning of his thirteenth birthday, he woke up with a terrible pain in his back, his parents sent him to school anyway. Bu the time he came home he was practically screaming with the pain of it. His father only happened to be home at that time, he tried to help but at the popping of the first bones he remembered his mother’s dying words and locked him in the cellar. For an hour and a half awful screams and cries and the occasional snap came from the basement, Alcander didn’t know what do to so he went out to go fetch his wife. When they returned they found the door hanging open and a pile of Fidel’s clothing on the ground. He was captured by animal services that night while in raccoon form and was tagged for release. The raccoon ended up ripping the tag out of it’s ear and forcing its way out of the cage. The next morning a boy was found in the park, sleeping naked and with an awful tear in his ear.
His parents were horrified and ashamed, rumors started floating around that maybe something 'questionable' happened to Fidel in the park. Fidel could do little more than cry as his family yelled at him for several days afterwards. He kept trying to explain that he didn't know what had happened. His parents finally took him to a hospital where his doctor took blood and other tests. From his data he postulated that there had been a dramatic change in young Fidel's body. Such a change that would've killed a regular person, after taking DNA tests he discovered extraordinary mutations in much of his DNA codons. After a bit or research his discovered Fidel's remarkable genealogical roots and traits. He consulted with other special doctors and discovered that Fidel had an ability to change into an animal. He informed the family, who didn't believe him. However, the doctor was able to coax the frightened boy into his raccoon form as proof. Disturbed and skeptical Fidel's parents left Fidel to fend for himself until he turned 15, when he ended up caught in the middle of a shoot out, and got a bullet to the shoulder.
Soon afterward, the question of a new school was brought up. They were fortunate to discover Shifter Academy, and despite the tuition costs, he was sent off as soon as possible. His parents were happy to be rid of their estranged child and get back to their busy lives. Fidel still resents his parents, but has learned to love his inner animal. Though at first he contemplated at great length the possibility of suicide. But he loves himself too much to do that.
...connecting human to animal
[One Paragraph Minimum (Can be point form)]
It is suspected that Fidel is a raccoon due to his adopted mischievous nature. Because animal shifting is a recessive gene and his grandmother was homozygous recessive, Alcander automatically received one of those genes. Paula was heterozygous dominant, but a carrier of the trait because a great grandfather of hers had possessed the ability. Raccoons have a knack for lock-picking and simply breaking into things, because this is one of Fidel’s prominent strengths, it matches up with this animal.

Fidel’s muscles rippled and shifted underneath his long fur coat as he crouched. He made a tiny sound in the back of his throat, something between a human giggle and a hiccup. He launched himself upwards by pushing off his back paws and latched onto the chain link fence. Nestling his head into his chest fur, he caught hold of the dog tags with his teeth and whipped his head so that the tuned around his neck to lie flat against his back. That way he could climb- fast and silent- without being notice. The sound came from the back of his throat again and he began a sort of jumping climb until his claws were scrabbling to get a hold on the top metal bar. His tail whipped behind him, keeping him steady on such and unsteady perch. He looked down at the ground below realizing how far up he now felt. Crouching again, he pushed hard off of the top landing fore paws first on the moist, dew-covered grass below.
The raccoon shook itself and sat on his haunches. After scenting the air to make sure the coast was clear, it looked back at the fence. Fidel grinned in spite of himself, “Huh, you’d think they’d put razor-wire on it by now!” He dropped to four legs and trotted though the grass towards the kitchens. “Not that that would be any match for me.”
It took little time to reach the kitchens, it was dark enough so that the sprinklers had already run and everyone should be asleep as per school policy. Fidel looked up at the padlock, frowning. “They.. they changed it.” With an irritated sigh, the raccoon padded to the dumpsters and jumped ontop of one. He reached out a tentative paw and pushed the trashcan forward. It tilted a bit and Fidel began applying more and more pressure until it gave and tipped. It came down with a mighty crash and its contents spilled out onto the pavement. He flinched, praying no one had heard. All the same he leapt from the lid to root around in the tipped trash. Finally he found the stench and reached forward until his paw brushed something mushy and slick. He held his breath out of instinct and pulled out the fish. He opened its skin further and reached inside until he had picked out at least four bones.
Moving away, Fidel grasped the bones in his paw and held his breath. His bones lengthened and he felt the sensation of his skin tearing to give way to his human form. It didn’t hurt so much anymore to shift, but it still felt weird. In moments, the Fidel was sprawled gasping and bare, on the kitchen lawn. When he got his breath back, he looked to the bones and stood to stroll over to lock. Bending a bit he jammed three bones up into the lock. Grasping it the stinking bones in his teeth he used the other two bones to work thought the locks, pushing hard when he hit the farthest point. There was a click and a release. Fidel spat the bones out and removed the lock. He grasped the handle and pulled the door open, flicking on the nearest light, He looked out over his sanctuary, his domain, “Too easy.”[/b][/i][/size]
